[Bug 1762952] [NEW] Switching backwards between applications with Alt + Shift + Tab not possible when using multiple keyboard input methods

2018-04-11 Thread Markus W
Public bug reported:

Version: Ubuntu 18.04 Final Beta with default Gnome Shell included in
18.04

Steps to reproduce:
1. Define two keyboard input methods in Settings -> Region & Language -> Input
Sources
2. Open several applications
3. Observe that application windows can be iterated with Alt + Tab
4. Once application window iteration was begun with Alt + Tab, try to iterate
backwards with Alt + Shift + Tab.
5. Try to change keyboard input method switching hotkeys in Settings -> Region
& Language -> Input Sources -> Options.
6. Observe that Keyboard shortcut for "Alternative switch to next source" is
set to "Alt + Shift" and that keyboard shortcuts can only be changed in
Settings -> Devices -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts.
7. Observe that the shortcut for "Alternative switch to next source" is not
available for configuration in Settings -> Devices -> Keyboard -> Keyboard
Shortcuts.

Actual state:
* Performing step 4 does not select the previous app in application switcher
but instead changes keyboard input method.

Expected state:
* The shortcut for "Alternative switch to next source" can be changed and / or
deactivated in Settings -> Devices -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts.

Notes:
* The above was working fine in Ubuntu 17.10. I assume "Alternative switch to
next source" did not exist in that version of Gnome Shell.

 Status: New

2018-04-11 Thread Roland Giesler
I have this problem with Ubuntu 17.10.

Unity (17.04) didn't have this problem.

Asus Zenbook Flip: I work primarily in 2 locations. I have large
monitors at each location. When I'm at home, my notebook is positioned
to the left of the monitor. I have configuration set for that.

When I get to the client site, the notebook is on the right of the
monitor and the monitor is bigger than the one at home. After having my
home settings active, gnome does not remember my client setup and vice
versa.

I expect the configuration to be restored the moment I connect a
previously set up external monitor, the way it was working on Unity.

2018-04-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Did anyone else find this was fixed in 18.04? I never encountered the
problem when using multi monitors, as mentioned above.

If a fix went into 18.04 somewhere then it seems the relevant bugs were
not updated. So we also don't know what fixed it :P

[Bug 1698270] Re: Totem pauses and stutters during video playback even when CPU usage is low

2018-04-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm really not sure what changed to make 4K video so stuttery now in
totem. The CPU is fairly low and goes through the roof only if I
uninstall VAAPI. So VAAPI is working, and it works smoothly in mpv too.

Since I could last play 4K smoothly in totem there has been:
  * A mesa update 17.2 -> 18.0
  * A Xorg update 1.19.5 -> 1.19.6
  * Kernel updates
  * Hardware changes (I changed from a Haswell to Kaby Lake desktop)

[Bug 1763025] [NEW] ubuntu installations in Kenya are problematic because default language is little known Oromo, not English or Swahili

2018-04-11 Thread Alex GOOD HEARTS Organisation
Public bug reported:

even on a fresh install and since many may years, despite even Debian
Bug reports - e.g. #756277:

There is an error with locale information for Kenya in ubuntu
installation. Language is automatically set to 'Oromo' (understood only
by a 3% minority of Ethiopian descent) yet the official languages in
Kenya are (the not selectable) en-KE (somehow British English, Kenyan
flavour, paper format A4, currency KES, currency format KES 123,456.00
or 123,456/= ) and (the also not selectable) sw-KE (somehow Swahili,
Kenyan flavour, paper format A4, currency KES, currency format KES
123,456.00 or 123,456/= )

>>> please make work both locales, en-KE (default) and sw-KE. (Remove
Oromo from Kenyan locales)

[Bug 1763033] [NEW] Caja can't properly unmount FUSE file systems

2018-04-11 Thread Norbert
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Ubuntu 16.04 LTS MATE or 18.04 LTS MATE
2. Mount FUSE filesystem - for example with sshfs (`sudo apt-get install sshfs`)

   mkdir ~/sshfs
   sshfs user@host.local:/ ~/sshfs

3. Do some file operations with ~/sshfs
4. Try to unmount `sshfs` share from Caja

Expected results:
- Caja unmounts FUSE file-system successfully

Actual results:
- on onmount Caja shows error message:

   Unable to unmount sshfs
   umount: /home/user/sshfs: Permission denied

and does not unmount filesystem

[Bug 1672297] Re: gnome-shell uses lots of memory, and grows over time

2018-04-11 Thread Ads20000
Could the eventual fix be cherry-picked for Ubuntu's GNOME 3.28? Merge
requests 114 and 50 (gjs; upstream) are targeted for GNOME 3.30.0 (for
example) yet presumably Ubuntu would want the fix in Ubuntu 18.04 rather
than shipping with the leak?

[Bug 1635804] Re: short cut keys always showing

2018-04-11 Thread Ads20000
Upstream said in the upstream bug that it's a bug in GTK.

'there is a list of shortcut keys already available from the menu bar'
this is not true because Files (in GNOME, at least) uses CSD? Perhaps
this should be closed here and upstream as Won't Fix?

Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.
Ubuntu 15.04 (vivid) reached end-of-life on February 4, 2016.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested
in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the
latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still
present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling
us which new version it is in and change the bug status to Confirmed.

Also I don't have a USB stick to attempt to reproduce this bug with, if
teo1978 or someone who is able to reproduce the bug on a supported
version of Ubuntu wants to return this to New/Confirmed and report
upstream then please do so.

[Bug 1481049] Re: list view defines .iso as unknown types

2018-04-11 Thread Ads20000
Confirmed on Ubuntu 17.10. The Files 3.28 Flatpak has this bug fixed by
calling the Type of ISOs 'Other' and you can get more info on the Types
with the 'Type (Detailed)' column. Ubuntu 18.04 is shipping with Files
3.26, however, so this bug still applies to Ubuntu.

I filed a bug upstream here but immediately closed it when I realized
that the new behavior is intended and makes sense:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/issues/356

On Ubuntu 17.10 or 18.04:

```
sudo apt install flatpak
flatpak remote-add --from gnome-apps-nightly
https://sdk.gnome.org/gnome-apps-nightly.flatpakrepo
flatpak install gnome-apps-nightly org.gnome.Nautilus/x86_64/master
nautilus --quit
flatpak run org.gnome.Nautilus
```

[Bug 1758563] Re: Blocked at gdm login screen on 18.04 if user password has a circumflex accent

2018-04-11 Thread baer
This affects me as well. I am using:

- GNOME Shell 3.28.0
- GDM 3.28.1
- a 105-key ISO keyboard
- 'German' keyboard layout (_not_ the 'no dead keys' variant)

I am not using Ubuntu but I am adding this info here, since this issue
seems to be much easier to find than the one on GNOME's GitLab.

When using the 'no dead keys' variant I can successfully enter single
accent characters like '`' or '^' but not accented vowels like 'ò' (it
becomes '`o'). When using the 'German' keyboard layout with dead keys, I
cannot enter certain accented vowels either. Pressing [^] and [o] simply
outputs 'o'. These keys have to be pressed _after_ each other usually.
Numerous other special characters, that require simultaneous keypresses
work though: €@§~#µ etc., e.g. [AltGr] + [a] --> æ. Compose keys do not
work either and thus I believe that this is indeed issue #115 linked by
seb1228 above.

Interestingly, the on-screen keyboard could not enter many of the
simpler special characters, like 'ö' or 'ä' which are single keypresses
on the keyboard, at all (see attached picture). In three instances I
could enter 'š', 'å' and 'ß'. I deleted 'š' and could not reproduce any
of those characters with the on-screen keyboard after that. This problem
persists on the desktop though, so it appears to be unrelated?

I'll wait for GNOME Shell 3.28.1 and report back if that fixes my issue.

[Bug 1745463] Re: Disabling systemd-resolved breaks dhclient resolvconf integration

2018-04-11 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
May I backtrack a bit, and ask how is this system configured? And is it
a desktop or a server configuration? Is it a fresh install or an
upgrade?

Specifically, what I am confused about is how the networking is
configured and where /etc/resolv.conf is pointing at.

I see that NetworkManager and ifupdown were mentioned. Do you have both
of these configured and try to manage a) networking b) /etc/resolv.conf?

And what are the steps to reproduce this? Ideally with something simple
and reproducible like a lxd container launched with $ lxd launch ubuntu-
daily:artful test-container

Note that overriding make_resolv_conf() is a good thing, and it should
not at all be used. None of our network configuration tools rely on
make_resolv_conf() which is an extremely bad interface that writes out a
static file and looses information, as it assumes that there is only
ever one interface and one dhcp. Hence you will notice that everything
(networkd+resolved, ifupdown+resolvconf, networkmanager) overridee
make_resolv_conf.

I'm not quite sure what was done to your system, but resolvconf can be
used to managed the /etc/resolv.conf and that is integrated with
resolved. You will notice that resolved stub nameserver is pulled into
resolvconf config, and thus resolvconf can own /etc/resolv.conf which is
what happens on upgrades.

Please update the bug description on how to reproduce the problem you
are seeing, without ranting or jumping to conclusions, or trying to make
any unnecessary changes, because it is hard to understand what you are
trying to achieve, which may have been made worse with unnecessary
workarounds.

[Bug 1763108] [NEW] xenial2bionic release upgrade loses DNS: empty resolv.conf

2018-04-11 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Public bug reported:

Note: I'm not sure which package better represents this bug, so I used
systemd, because /etc/resolv.conf had no "nameserver 127.0.0.53" entry
after the upgrade.

I did a plain standard lxd deploy of xenial, using the default images. Upgraded
it to the latest xenial packages, and then issued a release upgrade to bionic.

At the end of the upgrade process, rebooted, and when the system came
back up, /etc/resolv.conf had no nameserver entries:

root@xenial2bionic:~# cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
# 127.0.0.53 is the systemd-resolved stub resolver.
# run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual nameservers.

That was its whole content. Before the upgrade, in xenial, it had:
root@xenial2bionic:~# cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
nameserver 10.0.100.1
search lxd

systemd-resolve in the system after the upgrade to bionic was working just fine:

[Bug 1762292] Re: FFE: Sync appstream 0.12.0-3 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2018-04-11 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Ok, FFe request approved - but please, before pushing it to the
archives, I would like to request rebuilding the package in your PPA
with all arches enabled and do some upgrade testing from the existing
Ubuntu 0.11.8-3 package. If all looks good, please sync it from Debian.

I think packages already in PPA need to be rebuilt if one enabled new
architectures in the given PPA. Just a no-change bump should be enough.

Thanks!

[Bug 1762427] Re: No feedback when snap installation fails

2018-04-11 Thread Robert Ancell
I'm guessing the trigger for this was the store / CDN failing? It
downloads for me, so I'm not able to reproduce. Any download failure
like this should report an error in GNOME Software, trying to think of
another method to trigger this...

On code inspection, I think the snap support in gnome-software 3.20
doesn't handle async operation failures correctly.
