[Bug 1770731] Re: [nvidia] multimonitor display artifacts
Flickering ghost images may be caused by gnome-shell's damage tracking losing track of where things have been drawn, and it then uses buffer age information incorrectly, leaving junk in only one of the buffers (out of 2 or 3). So every second or third frame contains pixels that shouldn't be there, 20 or 30 times per second. I think the best way to work around it is to drag a window over the flickering area. [Bug 1773561] Re: Xenial/16.04: GIMP needs a security update - unfixed issues (CVE-2017-*).
** Description changed: Hello. GIMP package ('Universe/Security' section), available in "Xenial"/16.04 LTS Release, contains unfixed security issues and is vulnerable to, for example, heap-buffer over-read, out of bounds read and stack-based buffer over-read etc. The whole this is pretty strange, because Ubuntu Releases released before and after "Xenial", contains updated GIMP version! Anyway, it looks this way: in "Trusty" the available version is: '2.8.10-0ubuntu1.2' (please see [1]). "Bionic" has '2.8.20-1.1' version (please see [2]). Both Releases contains fixes for mentioned security issues: CVE-2017-* etc. However, GIMP version in "Xenial" is '2.8.16-1ubuntu1.1' and does not contain any security updates from 2017. (The last one is from Thu, 30 Jun 2016.; please see [3]). Security updates with fixes for mentioned CVE's (please compare changes in 1. and 2. with 3.) were released on Thu., 18 Jan 2018 - for "Trusty" and Tue., 26 Dec 2017 - for "Bionic". In "Xenial", the last security update is from Thu., 30 Jun 2016 (fix for CVE-2016-4994) and there is no further updates! Here is a CVE list, which are not fixed in "Xenial", but in "Trusty" and "Bionic" only: 1/ CVE-2017-17786: Out of bounds read 2/ CVE-2017-17789: Heap-based buffer overflow in read_channel_data 3/ CVE-2017-17784: Heap-buffer over-read in load_image file-gbr.c 4/ CVE-2017-17787: Heap-based buffer over-read in read_creator_block 5/ CVE-2017-17785: Heap-based buffer overflow in fli_read_brun function 6/ CVE-2017-17788: Stack-based buffer over-read in xcf_load_stream I wanted to send an email an email to Mr Marc Deslauriers, because he made the last security update for GIMP in "Xenial" (fix for CVE-2016-4994). But I decided to report a bug on Launchpad. I hope that it's an acceptable way. If not, I'm sorry. + ✗✗✗ And the most important thing: if an User had installed GIMP package + in "Xenial" Release, he is affected because he is using a vulnerable + version since one year! Security issues, mentioned above, are from 2017. + So, maybe it's a good opportunity to update GIMP to v2.10.2 version, + released on 20., May 2018? At least in non-LTS Releases. I don't know why 'fglrx-installer' was chosen as an affected package. [Bug 1773561] [NEW] Xenial/16.04: GIMP needs a security update - unfixed issues (CVE-2017-*).
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hello. By the way: similar problems with unfixed security issues, can be found e.g. in Audacious and Parole packages. But that's a different story, completely different story... [Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)
I just found out yesterday that, if you enable auto-login, gdm never hangs like this anymore. [Bug 1755800] Re: Greeter/lockscreen fails to authenicate in an endless loop. Repeated "No space left on device" errors and strange swap file configuration
We can close this bug report at this point. But I do appreciate the follow up! It turns out that there were two problems. The first was that 18.04 had misconfigured the cryptoswap so that was not working at all. I reported this separately before the release of bionic and I believe that this bug has been fixed by the maintainers. The second was that the kernel was running out of inotify watches and this prevented (for some reason) gdm3 from allowing logins to complete. The inotify watches were being consumed by the Crashplan java app. I increased the fs.inotify.max_user_watches to 1048576 and that solved the problem. I realize that this consumes some unswappable ram, but I rather have Crashplan than not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1755800 Title: Greeter/lockscreen fails to authenicate in an endless loop. [Bug 1773502] Re: High CPU usage in gnome-shell & Xorg when using Firefox
I restarted my computer 3 time.I launched FF and the top command. The home page of FF is https://www.bing.com/?cc=be. I opened a second tab with maps.google.com. Everything was find. I lauched system monitor and then, the CPU of one core jumped to 100 %, even after closing the maps.google.com tab (see screenshot). When I'm in system monitor, the tab Ressources take 100 % of 1 CPU. If I switch to the tab Processes and change the ordering of the list, it goes down. When I come back to the Ressources tab, it reaches again the top. Same thing if I go from the Ressources view to the File System tab and back to the Resources tab (see screenshot from 11:50 AM). ** Attachment added: "System monitor screen shot" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1773502/+attachment/5144606/+files/Capture%20d%E2%80%99%C3%A9cran%20de%202018-05-26%2011-50-40.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1773502 Title: High CPU usage in gnome-shell & Xorg when using Firefox To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1773502/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

OK. Please reduce the problem down to a single app, like just Firefox. Now, please let us know: 1. The version of Firefox; and 2. What web page(s) cause the biggest problem. I think my list of planned fixes for Ubuntu 18.10 [1] will be the best avenue for helping you because the Celeron 847 has a passmark [2] of 936, and I estimate gnome-shell presently requires a CPU with passmark around 5000 or more to run smoothly. [Bug 1773503] [NEW] should offer restart after system firmware upgrade
Public bug reported: The Software app launched by itself this morning to offer me a system firmware (uefi bios) update of my Dell 9370. Presumably in its role as a front-end to fwupd. That's not the bug, that's brilliant, that's pretty much my last remaining reason to keep a Windows partition dealt with. :-) The bug is that when I clicked Update to let it do its job, the procedure *appeared* to fail, not by reporting an error, but simply returning back to the same screen offering the same update. Of course, it was a system firmware update so you need to reboot to apply it, but there was no communication from the app to that effect. Therefore, the bug is that it *looked* like it failed, when it didn't. It's a usability/user communication issue. Expected: After applying the update it should throw up a standard "restart needed" dialogue, as you get on eg: a kernel update. (User can obviously then choose to do it now or later, as normal.) And in that case, also, for the updates tab in Software to not continue to show the update as needing doing. (When I did finally reboot, the update ran completely successfully.) NB: I was watching fwupdmgr monitor while Software ran the update, and indeed it looked there as if the end-state was the previous version of the system firmware was still in place, but no errors reported, so if Software is looking at that (or a more direct-from-the-daemon equivalent) its behaviour may be rational, and the bug is really in what fwupdmgr monitor is reporting. ie: maybe whatever Software is looking at to monitor progress needs to actually report that a reboot is needed, so it can pass that along to the user. [Bug 1292041] Re: Lockscreen doesn't turn off the screen
This bug needs to be reopened. I'm using a freshly installed and updated Ubuntu 16.04.4, with a laptop and an external monitor. When the Brightness & Lock timeout occurs, my monitors do go off at first, but my laptop's built-in monitor wakes backup up permanently to the ubuntu login screen. I'm worried that it is going to eventually ruin my monitor. Due to this bug, I'm going to have to create a cron job to run this command routinely: xset dpms forceoff Please mark this bug as NOT FIXED! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1292041 Title: Lockscreen doesn't turn off the screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1292041/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
