[Bug 1672297] Re: gnome-shell uses lots of memory, and grows over time

2018-06-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It's on the (backlog) queue: https://trello.com/b/3VYBPFaR/ubuntu-
desktop-1810-cycle

Although this doesn't need to wait for me. Anyone could cherry pick and
propose the remaining fixes.

6. Please also see if you can disable the AMD GPU in your system BIOS

If your password starts by holding the Shift key then this would be a
duplicate of bug 1765261.

Alternatively, if you get stuck on a blank purple screen then it is bug
1766137.

Can you please tell us which?

[Bug 1774188] Re: unlocking the screen takes 5 seconds

2018-06-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. It looks like there is maybe a logical reconnect of the display
to the X server at the start around 14:32:29, and that could be
triggering a lot of things.

Then problems occur in:
  /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com
Can you tell us which app indicator icons are visible after unlocking?

Then gnome-software is running:
  Jun 01 14:32:36 goetz-Latitude-E7250 gnome-software[1784]: no app for changed
ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com
  Jun 01 14:32:37 goetz-Latitude-E7250 gnome-software[1784]: no app for changed
ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com
I don't know why that is or if it is a problem.

Finally, does logging into "Ubuntu on Wayland" avoid the problem?

2018-06-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Changed in: gdm3 (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

+
+ ---
+
I run my screen on 100% scaling even though the ubuntu default for my
2560x1440 screen is 200%. After resume from suspend it's common for GDM
to display at 200% and only after switch back to 100%. Sometimes this
extends to after unlock with the mouse cursor being double size but only
when hovering over the gnome shell top bar. I tried taking a screenshot
but running the screenshot app fixed it and the cursor was normal sized
  again.

I've now submitted or subscribed to several gnome-shell and gdm3 bugs.
The 18.04 transition from unity to gnome-shell was clearly a step back
in terms of polish of the desktop.

[Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)

2018-06-03 Thread Robert Clayton
gdm3_3.28.2-0ubuntu1.1_amd64.deb,
gir1.2-gdm-1.0_3.28.2-0ubuntu1.1_amd64.deb,
libgdm1-dbgsym_3.28.2-0ubuntu1.1_amd64.ddeb,
gdm3-dbgsym_3.28.2-0ubuntu1.1_amd64.ddeb,
libgdm1_3.28.2-0ubuntu1.1_amd64.deb, and libgdm-
dev_3.28.2-0ubuntu1.1_amd64.deb do not fix these issues by themselves.

on a fresh install:

lightdm cannot log in (failed password over and over)
gdm3 can only log into a wayland UI, not any other

[Bug 771896] Re: No way to save current session

2018-06-03 Thread Giorgio Pintaudi
@jogi

I know this is quite old but I tried your workaround of comment #59 on Ubuntu
17.10 and it is not working.
I am using the script that you kindly provided. The only net result of running
the script manually is that Thunderbird and Dropbox are re-opened. I stress
that Thunderbird and Dropbox are already automatically started on startup.
All the other programs opened in the previous session are not reopened.
This is because in the ~/.config/gnome-session/saved-session folder are present
only the .desktop file of those two applications.

[Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)

2018-06-03 Thread Jehandan Jeyaseelan
Hi, in response to Marco's post #101,

I was wondering if a package will be released for bionic proposed so we
can test it out before it is released?

I can see that one is released for cosmic that is newer than the one for
bionic.
