[Bug 1762952] Re: Alternative shortcut for layout switching Alt+Shift unexpectedly set by default
Hello Adam, or anyone else affected, Accepted console-setup into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/console- setup/1.178ubuntu2.4 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed. ** Description changed: + https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/issues/408 + + --- + I don't which package this applies to, but I believe the best bet is GDM. Steps to reproduce: 1) Log-in using X11 login via GDM. 2) Use the desktop for a while. (For some reason I cannot reproduce if I login and then restart after a short while). 3) In Gnome click System menu -> Power Button -> Restart 4) Quickly press CTRL-ALT-F1 5) I see my login password in plain text in the console. Upstream: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/issues/305 ** Also affects: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: + https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/issues/305 + + --- + Hello, folks, Today when I returned to my computer (which I locked with Super+L) and attempted to unlock it, it displayed my passphrase in cleartext in the 'Password' box. I noticed as soon as I got the first character in, then typed in the second character and it stayed clear. I then picked up my phone to record the attached video and while I was fiddling with it to get a good camera shot, the screen locked (for inactivity perhaps?) and when I unlocked this time, the password only displayed as dots (as expected). So unfortunately, I don't know how to replicate. It _did_ occur though, as the attached video will show if you go slowly (look for "hu", the first characters of legendary password "hunter2"). [Bug 1782614] Re: Upgrade to 3.28.3 and SRU it
I had tagged .1 - in error since it wasn't accepted - when uploading it, so it was easier on our side to upload a new revision with -v. I guess you would prefer us to remove references to bugs that aren't directly being SRUed. In this case it was a change between .1 and .2 so I left it in. The bug is not nominated, which I intended to be an indication of its status. I've done that before with other SRUs without any problems, but if it is an issue then I will remove it when re- uploading. Sorry about the LP-Bugs-Fixed. I uploaded from a Debian packaging directory on Ubuntu and I'd set DEB_VENDOR=Debian. I'll take a look at the 3.28.3 proposal and probably upload that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1782614 Title: Upgrade to 3.28.3 and SRU it To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1782614/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1781826] Re: System logout when turn off the screen or suspend Ubuntu 18.04
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1781826 Title: System logout when turn off the screen or suspend Ubuntu 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1781826/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Robie, Yes, I'd go directly with 3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.2, actually we've also a .3 ready, so probably we could go with that too. Bug #1783363 never hit bionic, the fix was just applied to cosmic, so no need to SRU it. debian/patches/workspace-fix-repositioned-windows-in-activities.patch was already present in ubuntu, we just refreshed it with some minor changes as per upstream review. [Bug 1782614] Re: Upgrade to 3.28.3 and SRU it
For Bionic: Shouldn't this be 3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 directly, rather than 3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 then 3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.2? Missing Launchpad-Bugs-Fixed field in changes file. Did you use Ubuntu or set vendor to Ubuntu if on Debian? Please re-upload with that. Bugs like bug 1783363 appear to be missing SRU paperwork. Please fix (or tell me why not necessary) before re-uploading. Doesn't debian/patches/workspace-fix-repositioned-windows-in- activities.patch need a bug and SRU paperwork? [Bug 1784903] [NEW] Volume keys auto-repeat indefinitely in Medion laptop
Public bug reported: Summary: Several models of Medion laptops need to be added to `/lib/udev/hwdb.d/60-keyboard.hwdb` so that volume keys don't auto- repeat indefinitely. I just installed Xubuntu on a Medion P6689 MD61019 laptop, and it turns out that pressing the volume keys (Fn-F11/F12) causes them to auto- repeat indefinitely, increasing/decreasing the volume until reaching 100%/0%. Same happens with mute (Fn-F10). Apparently these keys only send key press events but not key release ones. It seems that this issue is common in Medion laptops: * https://askubuntu.com/questions/994333/volume-buttons-stay-pressed * https://askubuntu.com/questions/1048531/volume-control-keys-mute-volume-up-down-auto-repeat-key-presses * https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=233114 For those affected by this bug, I posted a workaround here: https://askubuntu.com/a/1061500/854656 I've attached the file with the workaround as I have it in my laptop right now. [Bug 1781826] Re: System logout when turn off the screen or suspend Ubuntu 18.04
apport information ** Description changed: When turn off the screen or suspend, and resume the system is logged out, this mostly happens with nvidia driver (390 or 396). I noticed that when close the lid and reopen the system is still working and all of a sudden it appears a login screen and when login all programs as killed as it was logged out. And most of times after login it locks and prompts an unlock screen. I tried to switch to nouveau driver and the problem seems not to happen, but that leaves me with a poor performance in terms of graphics. I tried to reset the setting in dconf using dconf-editor to reset the system recursively, at the beginning seems to be solved but it gets back. I need to mention that I faced the same problem when using budgie flavor, I thought that it might be a budgie problem but it appears to be a gnome problem since budgie is based on gnome and on both the problem happens when using Nvidia drivers. --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME DisplayManager: gdm3 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia Package: gnome-shell 3.28.2-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 PackageArchitecture: amd64 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-29.31-generic 4.15.18 Tags: bionic Uname: Linux 4.15.0-29-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo _MarkForUpload: True --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME DisplayManager: gdm3 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia Package: gnome-shell 3.28.2-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 PackageArchitecture: amd64 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-29.31-generic 4.15.18 Tags: bionic Uname: Linux 4.15.0-29-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo _MarkForUpload: True + --- + ProblemType: Bug + ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 + Architecture: amd64 + DisplayManager: gdm3 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 + NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia + Package: gnome-shell 3.28.2-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 + PackageArchitecture: amd64 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-29.31-generic 4.15.18 + Tags: bionic + Uname: Linux 4.15.0-29-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: + + _MarkForUpload: True ** Attachment added: "Dependencies.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1781826/+attachment/5170432/+files/Dependencies.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1781826 Title: System logout when turn off the screen or suspend Ubuntu 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1781826/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1774498] Re: Windows flash by external screen on workspace change
I don't think it is really a bug. Workspace switching is a smooth(ish) animation. Not instantaneous. As part of that animation, windows from the old workspace fly out and windows from the new workspace fly in. If your monitors are arranged vertically then this means the windows are indeed flying over the other monitor that's not switching. Possible solutions would be: (a) Gnome Tweaks > Appearance > Animations = OFF ; or (b) Arrange your monitors horizontally ; or (c) Ask Gnome for a new feature to arrange workspaces horizontally ; or (d) Ask Gnome to hide windows from the other monitor during switch animations. If you wish to go ahead with (c) or (d) then please report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues and let us know the ID of the new bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774498 Title: Windows flash by external screen on workspace change To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1774498/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1774498] Re: Windows flash by external screen on workspace change
Of course "Workspaces span displays" fixes it as everything moves at once. Putting the external screen on the left or right also fixes it. But that just shows how the animation is broken. When the screen is on top and doesn't span displays there's no reason for the contents of the internal screen that are switching virtual desktop to fly through the external screen. That's just a bug.
Bizarrely I /think/ that might be correct behaviour. By default workspaces do not span all displays. So as you scroll between workspaces you probably will and should see windows from one display fly over the other. Because workspaces don't span all displays by default. Not completely sure since I haven't tried using multiple monitors with multiple workspaces myself. Have a look in gnome-tweaks and see if "Workspaces span displays" improves things at all...? ** Summary changed: - Windows flash by external screen on virtual desktop change + Windows flash by external screen on workspace change ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => New ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774498 Title: Windows flash by external screen on workspace change To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1774498/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1755986] Re: WiFi icon / settings gone from user menu
Hm, after checking out the links Daniels provided, I am wondering if this is not a duplicate or a different manifestation of bug #1774957... I think I will not open a new upstream bug but will sign up to the existing one: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/140 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1755986 Title: WiFi icon / settings gone from user menu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1755986/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1755986] Re: WiFi icon / settings gone from user menu
Ok, thanks for the links to upstream bugs. Julian, I propose the following title for GNOME bug report: "WiFi/network icon and settings randomly disappear or misbehave in status menu" One more thing: I forgot to mention that I seem to observe the problem randomly on roughly 1/2 of boots or logins. This made me think of some "race condition"... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1755986 Title: WiFi icon / settings gone from user menu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1755986/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
