[Bug 1788345] [NEW] ubuntu-session not a dependency of unity
Public bug reported: Assuming lightdm preinstalled in the system, Installing unity does not enable using ubuntu unity desktop. To get things working, package ubuntu-session needs to be separately installed. To improve installation experience, best to make ubuntu-session a dependency of unity package because there are no other valid combinations like lxsession & unity. ** Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1788345 Title: ubuntu-session not a dependency of unity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/1788345/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1244090] Re: Pressing any global keyboard shortcut causes temporary loss of focus
It is strange this is a known issue for 4 years and there is still not resolved. It is highly annoying as end user to lose window focus all the time I switch languages, which is common for bilingual environments. Do I really need to recompile X to remove an issue, which I observed only on Gnome Shell? Public bug reported: I'm not sure this is a bug but instead is a configuration option missing in the /etc/rsyslog.conf. This is on a Ubuntu 18.04.1LTS system that was upgraded last week from 16.04.5LTS. The version of rsyslog installed is: apt-cache policy rsyslog rsyslog: Installed: 8.32.0-1ubuntu4 Candidate: 8.32.0-1ubuntu4 lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Release:18.04 The complete output is here: https://pastebin.com/AxYYQaw5 I went to the links noted. The first one http://www.rsyslog.com/e/2359 from what I can read tells me that whatever action is referenced it was resumed. I assume in this case it refers to this "resumed (module 'builtin:omfile'" The 2nd link http://www.rsyslog.com/e/2007 seems to give me a fix for this. I've looked for what is mentioned in the 2nd link in my /etc/rsyslog.conf file and in my /etc/rsyslog.d/50- default.conf: The 2nd link refers to this: "A frequent case for this error message on Debian-based distributions (like raspbian) is that rsyslog.conf contains the instruction to write to the xconsole pipe, but this pipe is never read. If so, you can simply delete these lines to remove the error message. These lines are usually found at the end of rsyslog.conf." My current /etc/rsyslog.conf file is here https://pastebin.com/WZVhryNW If I need to add some lines to the .conf file I'm not sure what they should be. ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1788322 Title: Approximately every 2mins this is written to syslog - rsyslogd: action 'action 3' resumed (module 'builtin:omfile') [v8.32.0 try http://www.rsyslog.com/e/2359 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1788322/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1788220] [NEW] Ubuntu LTS includes calc as snap
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Ubuntu 18.04 includes the calculator as a snap. The standard installation of snap, with no custom snap apps installed other than what Ubuntu installs by default, takes a whooping 1.6GB of hard disk. Calc takes forever to start in a modern machine compared to the normal calc installed with APT, creates snap files in the user's home dir (with name $HOME/snap). This is ridiculous. Snap is immature, there's no sysadmin tool support, and it's not ready to make it the default for standard Ubuntu LTS. ** Affects: gnome-calculator (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment -- Ubuntu LTS includes calc as snap https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1788220 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-calculator in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Ubuntu doesn't use mutter by default though ( is that what lubuntu uses? ). I looked at this again today and for some reason gdm isn't giving the option to log in with a wayland session. The fact that acroread also fails to render the images in this file suggests this is either not permitted or a corner case that no one uses. [Bug 1788112] Re: font-manager does not appear in gnome-software
@jbicha: Those changes will *never* affect a released Debian or Ubuntu version, only in-development stuff. The earliest point I actually would consider making such a change is after the Debian Buster release and at least one release before the next Ubuntu LTS. Also, the amount of packages with issues should be really low at that point, ideally be zero. And all the things that I might adjust yield at least an AppStream warning-type hint for 2-3 years already, and the old-location one is a Lintian warning too. So people know about it and there's still plenty of time to adapt :-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1788112 Title: font-manager does not appear in gnome-software To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/font-manager/+bug/1788112/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1788112] Re: ubuntu software not synced with synaptic
Ubuntu Software uses appstream data to list available applications, as opposed to synaptic which is a plain package management GUI (it doesn't make a distinction between applications and other types of packages). In Ubuntu 18.04, Font Manager is listed in Ubuntu Software, because the upstream project added appstream data in a recent release (https://github.com/FontManager/master/commit/36e20510955a2ddc34bebbfc7f1db3f0fd6c695e). The version in 16.04 doesn't have that appstream data, which explains why it doesn't appear in Ubuntu Software. ** Changed in: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Also affects: font-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: font-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released ** Also affects: font-manager (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu Xenial) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1788112 Title: ubuntu software not synced with synaptic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/font-manager/+bug/1788112/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1787925] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in meta_bug()
I just wanted to help but when the bug reporting system does not work correctly I have no idea what to do. I often get SIGABRTs and similar crashes with gnome-shell but the most time these bugs were already reported and I only click on "This bug affects you". In the past I also created some bug reports but these seem to be fine. Maybe the bug will be gone when I have updated to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. I just had no time for this until now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1787925 Title: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in meta_bug() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1787925/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1754872] Re: apt install xubuntu-desktop does not resolve dependencies properly
There is no correct behavior here. xubuntu-desktop depends on lightdm, lightdm-gtk-greeter; so apt will install lightdm which Recommends unity-greeter | lightdm-greeter | lightdm-kde-greeter. Hence apt installs unity-greeter. Then it installs lightdm-gtk-greeter. Telling apt to install xubuntu-desktop and lightdm-gtk-greeter means you made the choice to use that, and thus don't need unity-greeter. Just not installing unity-greeter is (a) not possible in a greedy algorithm and (b) leads to wrong results in other cases (like installing an sqlite backend for something instead of an mysql one because it has fewer packages). The EDSP solvers and the kalel solver can do that. That said, for the future solver generation, my goal is to behave similar to now, but more strict. If something depends on A|B, the solver will inject a Recommends: A, unless B is already installed or manually marked for install. This will cause even more packages to be installed than now in some situations, but it's the best compromise we can offer. ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1754872 Title: apt install xubuntu-desktop does not resolve dependencies properly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1754872/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1787925] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in meta_bug()
If you did use 'ubuntu-bug' to generate this then it has failed somehow. Sorry, that's a bug in 'ubuntu-bug' or such. So maybe try reproducing the problem and run it again on a new crash file to see if you get a bug with more details in it. "No errors have been reported from this system" is a web site bug :) Just keep the page open for a few seconds longer and it should change to something more useful. If you can't reproduce the error then no problem... [Bug 1787925] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in meta_bug()
Hi Daniel. I used the command `ubuntu-bug gnome-shell` to send this bug to launchpad. If I try this with the crash file instead it only opens a window with some crash details but there is no possibility to upload anything. Going to errors.ubuntu.com only tells me that I am not logged in. After logging in it says: "No errors have been reported from this system" Can I upload the 45 MB crash file somewhere else? I don't know if it contains sensible information.
