[Bug 1787365] [NEW] Nautilus hangs when using the location bar

2018-09-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After updating to 18.04 from 16.04, every time I try to type a character
that's not a letter or a number in the nautilus location bar, like "/"
or "~", it hangs.

Something related to this happens with the calculator. The attachment is
after opening it over the window where I'm typing this.

Firefox also just crashed while typing this, so maybe it's also related.

Frank,

Please also check your:

  https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/

  /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id

When opening that page, please leave it open for at least 10 seconds as
it usually takes some time to populate. If that page shows any recent
links then please share them here.

2018-09-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Unfortunately there is no crash information
here.

To report a crash file please run something like:

  ubuntu-bug Xwayland.crash

or

  apport-cli Xwayland.crash

but don't manually attach the crash file to any bug.

That big long link above turns out to be the top crash report against
gnome-session. It has 8300 crash reports from 18.04 this year. So
"confirmed" but still incomplete because we don't have enough
information to debug it yet.

Thanks for that but it's better to not share your whoopsie-id. Still, I
was able to use it to find your most recent crash report:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/854ff42a-b4ea-11e8-901f-fa163ee63de6

which unfortunately is not traceable:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/bucket/?id=failed%3A/usr/lib/gnome-session
/gnome-session-check-accelerated%3A11%3A/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-

gnu/libc-2.27.so%2B21b97%3A/usr/lib/gnome-session/gnome-session-check-

However, we might get more information from a proper crash file and
retracing in Launchpad. To do that, please look in /var/crash for crash
files, and then for each one run:

  ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash

and tell us any new bug IDs that you created in your web browser...

[Bug 1753525] Re: Wacom tablet not recognized in Settings > Devices

2018-09-10 Thread Will Ethridge
I just attempted the upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04 and have this issue as
well.

Default Ubuntu desktop (gnome desktop on xorg)

Cintiq Companion Hybrid 13HD (DTH-A1300)

Since the update, I have no touch nor stylus input, nor are the hardware
buttons detected when pressed.
In Gnome control center's Wacom Settings Applet, no stylus is detected, but the
tablet is detected.

I cannot remap inputs or calibrate the stylus because they are not
detected.

[Bug 1791553] Re: Update preferences is not shown when flatpak plugin is installed

2018-09-10 Thread Andrew Hayzen
I have added (LP: 1791553) to the commit message (as seen in a previous
commit).

Yes, I agree it could be a good idea to mention that this is currently
flatpak only. What would you suggest? Rename "Update Preferences" to
"Flatpak Update Preferences" or mention in the dialog itself somewhere ?
Maybe Robert has a better idea.

[Bug 1789922] Re: Unmount is broken

2018-09-10 Thread Phillip Susi
It turns out that just trying to unmount an fs is broken. Apparently
resize mounts the fs first for some reason, then when it tries to
unmount, it can't.

** Summary changed:

- Resize is broken
+ Unmount is broken

** Description changed:

- Try to resize an ext4 partition with the gnome disks utility. It throws
- an error saying it can't unmount the filesystem because it isn't
- mounted. This is on 18.04.

[Bug 1789922] Re: Resize is broken

2018-09-10 Thread Phillip Susi
Nevermind, it still doesn't work on the right disk. While the disk is
not mounted initially, by the time unuse_data_iterate() is called, it
has been mounted for some reason. I'm thinking there is a race
condition where something mounts the fs temporarily and unmounts it, and
during the time it is mounted is when unuse_data_iterate() is called,
which sees it is mounted, and tries to unmount it, but by the time the
unmount request goes through, it has already been unmounted.

[Bug 1713313] Re: Unable to launch pkexec'ed applications on Wayland session

2018-09-10 Thread Walter Lapchynski
bodhi, having the Technical Board review Phillip's posts might be
completely reasonable so as to finally end this conversation once and
for all. That has no bearing on the moderation, though.

The entire Ubuntu Community is bound by the terms of the Code of
Conduct, which, in short, means being nice to one another, regardless of
our points of view. So, I'm sorry, you don't just get to treat people
however you want just because you disagree with them. There is no
moderation as it concerns your attempts to correct a confusing technical
situation. Where the moderation exists is where it no longer remains
technical and especially where it becomes a personal attack.

[Bug 1789922] Re: Resize is broken

2018-09-10 Thread Phillip Susi
So I ran it under gdb and set a breakpoint to find how unmount_cb() is
being called and traced the problem back up to unuse_data_iterate(). It
calls gdu_utils_is_in_use_full(), which incorrectly identifies the mount
point of the filesystem as "/". So it looks like either it is finding
the wrong mount point for the filesystem and trying to unmount the root
( which you obviously can't do ), or unuse_data_iterate() is actually
being called on the root filesystem instead of the one you are trying to
resize. Unfortunately I can't tell which since almost all of the data
this code is working with gdb tells me has an incomplete type.

[Bug 1757068] Re: Night light brakes when screen dims

2018-09-10 Thread Stéphane Guillou
I believe I have the same issue. I originally reported it as the current
duplicate Bug #1791659.

The issue is as described here: the night light mode turns off as the
screen starts dimming right before it blanks. The mode then needs to be
turned off and on to work again.

If I have an external monitor connected, as "join monitors", the
external monitor is the one that loses the night light, whereas the
built-in display still has it. The workaround around this is unplugging
and plugging the screen back in.

I use the following:

gnome-control-center version: 1:3.28.2-0ubuntu0.18.04.2
gnome-shell version: 3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.2

[Bug 1791659] Re: night light is off on external monitor after screen goes to sleep

2018-09-10 Thread Stéphane Guillou
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1757068 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1757068

Hm actually, I think it might be a duplicate of this one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-
center/+bug/1757068

I just tested it further, and the same happens without an external
monitor. Also, I noticed that the night light stops working as the
screen dims right before it blanks.

Marking this as a dupe. Probably good news.

[Bug 1791659] [NEW] night light is off on external monitor after screen goes to sleep

2018-09-10 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Public bug reported:

Using the night light on both the built-in screen and an external
monitor (connected via VGA) in "Join Displays" mode, everything works
fine until the screen goes to sleep (aka "blank screen" in "Settings >
Power > Power Saving): the night light is still active on the built-in
screen but not on the external monitor anymore. I have to unplug and
plug back in the VGA for the night light to be restored on the external
monitor. Turning the night light on and off does not restore it on the
external monitor.

I have checked other bug reports related to night light, but couldn't
find a description of my issue.

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Description changed:

Using the night light on both the built-in screen and an external
monitor (connected via VGA) in "Join Displays" mode, everything works
fine until the screen goes to sleep (aka "blank screen" in "Settings >
Power > Power Saving): the night light is still active on the built-in
screen but not on the external monitor anymore. I have to unplug and
plug back in the VGA for the night light to be restored on the external
monitor. Turning the night light on and off does not restore it on the
  external monitor.

+ I have checked other bug reports related to night light, but couldn't
+ find a description of my issue.

[Bug 1778011] Re: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power

2018-09-10 Thread Alberto Milone
@Steve, Brian: I have re-uploaded ubuntu-drivers-common 1:0.5.2.1, now
with code to prevent shipping the __pycache__ cruft. While running
debdiff against 1:0.5.2 will still mention the cruft, if you run
"lintian -v ubuntu-drivers-common_0.5.2.1.dsc --pedantic", lintian won't
complain about "source-contains-prebuilt-python-object" any more.

I hope we can finally get ubuntu-drivers-common into bionic-proposed
now, or verification for this bug report will keep failing.

[Bug 1791553] Re: Update preferences is not shown when flatpak plugin is installed

2018-09-10 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I'm attaching a screenshot from
https://twitter.com/BabyWogue/status/1038803503794274304 of the dialog.

I agree with the idea of showing that dialog but the dialog doesn't make
any mention that it only affects Flatpak. I think people would
reasonably expect those settings to affect other apps, in particular
Snaps. Ubuntu ships some snaps by default since 18.04 LTS.

Also please mention this bug report in your commit message.

I'll let Robert review. This is just some comments.

[Bug 1791551] Re: Activation of new on-screen keyboard in Gnome 3.28/3.30 is difficult to discover in Wayland and not possible in X

2018-09-10 Thread Mario Vukelic
** Description changed:

The new OSK does not auto-activate reliably by selecting any text widget as
the Gnome 3.28 release notes claim:
"The new keyboard automatically activates when a text area is selected, ..."

This does not work with text widgets of alien toolkits (Chrome, Firefox,
  Qt, ...).

- Even in Gnome this does not work everywhere, for me (Cosmic, 3.30) it does
only for the search boxes of Activity and Application menus, not anywhere else
that I can find. Not even epiphany, gedit, or other first-class Gnome
applications. It is the same in Ubuntu 18.04 according to Bug #1760399 (this
reprot is also reference as evidence further down).

report is also reference as evidence further down).
Does this need a separate bug report? Is it a bug in Gnome libraries, Gtk
libraries, or in each individual application where it does not work who is
using these libraries?

Hence it is necessary to have a way for manual activation. This is
possible in Wayland by swiping up on a touch screen, but there is no UI
hint for this and I banged my head bloody until I stumbled on the
  solution.

In the default X session the swipe does not work and hence it cannot be
  manually activated at all.

The Ubuntu documentation for 18.04.1 describes it incorrectly and
contributes to the confusion. Bug report:
