[Bug 1792085] [NEW] MTP no more working on Bionic

2018-09-11 Thread Lancillotto
Public bug reported:

Hi, unfortunately (for me) MTP android devices no more work on Ubuntu
18.04.

I have used MTP on 16.04 without problems, but on 18.04 it does not
work. When I connect my Android devices (Samsung A5 and Samsung J3) and
I try to list directories with many files (e.g. /DCIM/Camera) the window
hangs until I disconnect the device. Same issue if I try to post the
command "ls /var/run/1000/gvfs/".

I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 on two different machines - an older HP
laptop and a recent DELL laptop - and the issue is present on the all of
them.

I suspect a defect on the "libmtp". I tried many alternative solutions
suggested by the net (e.g. jmtpfs and so on) but anyone worked.

That's all!

Although the stack trace in this bug sounds a bit broken. I think bug

+ [Impact]
+ Sessions in specific circumstances when switching to TTY while plymouth is
being activated or deactivated.
+
+ [Test cases]
+ Steps to reproduce:
+ 1) Log-in using X11 login via GDM.
+ 2) Use the desktop for a while. (For some reason I cannot reproduce if I
login and then restart after a short while).
+ 3) In Gnome click System menu -> Power Button -> Restart
+ 4) Quickly press CTRL-ALT-F1
+
+ Validate whether your login password is visible on the TTY.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Possible regressions may include difficulty showing text-mode splash or boot
messages given that this changes the state of tty based on plymouth's own
activation state.

- I don't which package this applies to, but I believe the best bet is
- GDM.

Olivier, I also suffer from this bug several times a day especially when
I am using IRCCloud but tonight I opened the Ubuntu Wiki in a third tab
and the CPU usage for gnome-keyring-daemon immediately rose to around
62% and stayed there for over a minute.

I'm attaching a log as you requested above which I let run until the CPU
usage fell back to an acceptable level.

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 and Chromium 68.0.3440.106.

[Bug 1508146] Re: Alt+left/right arrows switch between tty consoles (Gnome Shell vanishes), cannot disable

2018-09-11 Thread Yannick
In my case, I traced the issue to the keyboard-configuration package
postinst script, which ends up calling 'setupcon --force --save' which
in turn calls 'kbd_mode -u'

To reproduce:
sudo apt install --reinstall keyboard-configuration

setupcon documentation states:
"--forceDo not check whether we are on the console. Notice that you can be
forced to hard-reboot your computer if you run setupcon with this option and
the screen is controlled by a X server."

It looks like the checks to avoid this behavior while a graphic
environment is active don't work in the context of the installer.

[Bug 1791936] [NEW] GNOME system-monitor cpu graph color does not update or persist

2018-09-11 Thread James Pack
Public bug reported:

1. Description: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
   Release: 18.04

2. gnome-system-monitor:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 3.28.2-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 3.28.2-0ubuntu1 500

Packages
 3.28.1-1 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages

3. I expect the colors to update in the graph and persist across
application exit.

4. When I choose a different color for my cpu graphs the color does not
update in the actual graph. Also when I close the app and open it again
the colors seem to reset to default.

[Bug 1791373] Re: [FFe] Update gnome-terminal to 3.30.0 and vte to 0.54

2018-09-11 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
At first I was slightly worried about the 'deprecated functions', but
then I saw deprecation != removal (as per symbols files). This seems
fairly safe I suppose. Just seeing that vte has quite a lot of reverse-

case.

[Bug 1787193] Re: copying via Nautilus over the lan is very slow

2018-09-11 Thread André Jutisz
Here some additional findings:
I normally use 6 volumes which are mounted by logging in using a script. When
only one volume is mounted, copying via Nautilus over the LAN occurs at
“normal” pace. But when mounting two or more volumes, every copy operation is
getting appalling slow. It affects then copying files from a USB-Drive too. It
looks as if it is a matter of allocated memory space.
The same scripts work with 16.04 LTS without problems.

Attached: the script used by log in.

[Bug 1791058] Re: Wifi disconnects very very often and is hard to reconnect

2018-09-11 Thread gratefulfrog
Further on this bug:

The wifi I am using is a 5GH AC network.

When it disconnects, which is very often, such as every 10 minutes,
sometimes it can reconnect by simply restarting the network-manager
service, i.e

$ service network-manager restart

But sometimes this doesn't work and the only solution is to reboot!

This problem is really painful, I am desperate for a solution or work
around as I need this laptop nearly all the time.

I do not have the courage to time to try an upgrade to 18.04 at the
present time.

Any thoughts would be great!

Cheers,
Bob

[Bug 1791899] Re: gnome crashes, all running applications are closed (even vpn, etc)

2018-09-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Unfortunately Javascript errors are not the
same thing as a gnome-shell crash. To help us find the cause of the
crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.
