2018-09-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Frank,

Sorry to hear things aren't working for you. I have read through your
files and:

_usr_bin_Xwayland.1000.crash: Stack trace mostly unreadable (missing symbols)
_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash: Stack trace is missing

Please confirm that you have tried both:

 (a) Running this in a terminal:
apport-cli _usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash
then choose "Send report" and wait to be given a link.
Copy or follow the link in a web browser to create a new bug.
If it doesn't work then please copy and paste the terminal output from
 that command into this bug.

 (b) Waiting at least 10 seconds for the page
https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/YOUR_WHOOPSIE_ID
to change after opening it in a web browser, where YOUR_WHOOPSIE_ID is
 the content of /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1792437

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1792365] Re: On-screen keyboard doesn't work outside of Ubuntu's text fields

2018-09-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
As I understand it, OSK support is something that has to be implemented
in each toolkit (e.g. GTK) or each app (e.g. Chrome) if not using a
common toolkit, via accessibility APIs.

Do you find any apps other than Chrome and Gedit affected?

I wonder if this bug is affected by your custom setting:
  b'org.gnome.desktop.interface' b'toolkit-accessibility' b'true'
It might work better without that (false is the default).

[Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find

2018-09-13 Thread Jan-Jonas Sämann
This stupid behavior isn't only inconvinient,

-> this really BREAKS FUNCTIONALITY if you work on network resources.

Especially in Germany where possible internet speeds in many locations
do not exeed well known dialup connection speeds.

What happens then is a complete lockup on nautilus while the filelists
are queried again from the remote site. This usually takes minutes to
complete.

[Bug 1767918] Re: Login password from GDM is shown in plain text on the VT1 console

2018-09-13 Thread Brian Murray
Hello SimonWerner, or anyone else affected,

Accepted plymouth into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/0.9.3-1ubuntu7.18.04.1 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1639513] Re: Pango-WARNING **: shaping failure, expect ugly output

2018-09-13 Thread Tong Sun
That's an entirely different issue, as Manfred has put it,

This is support for Ubuntu only, and not for other operating systems
"based on Ubuntu" like elementary OS.

No matter how close you think yours is to Ubuntu, if it is not then it
is not.

Please don't spill your own problem over to other unrelated issues.
Thanks.

[Bug 1792437] [NEW] totem video play back laggy when opened through GUI, running it from terminal is OK

2018-09-13 Thread Daniel
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I'm on fresh install of Ubuntu 18.10 daily build!
totem video playback is laggy when opened through GUI (double click on video
file or open video app from applications menu). However, when I open totem from
terminal everything is OK and playback is totally smooth.

I have already tried:

1) installing gstreamer-libav_1.15.1 from cosmic repo.
2) compile and install gstreamer-libav_1.14.2 from source.
3) compile and install libde265 from source.
4) compile and install totem from source.

Other players including vlc and mpv don't seem to be affected.
Even totem started from terminal is not affected.

I didn't have this problem on ubuntu 18.04LTS.

If there is a need to provide more information, I will be happy to help
solving this problem.

Danial Khazaei

[Bug 1792424] [NEW] Left panel flickers like crazy during several seconds after deleting a bunch of files

2018-09-13 Thread teo1978
Public bug reported:

I have no idea if there are some requirements to trigger this issue, so
I don't know whether you'll be able to reproduce it by just following my
steps.

Anyway, I can reproduce it 100% of the times:

1. Open some folder in Nautilus
2. Select a few files. Make sure you select quite a few
3. Delete them by pressing the DEL key

Expected:
Nothing, a part from the files being deleted and disappearing from the
displayed folder contents.

Observed:
During a few seconds after you hit Delete (I guess the time it takes to move
the files to Trash and do some associated action, which by the way I don't know
what it is that can take so long when deleting just a handful of files), the
items in the list of shortcuts in the left panel (see screenshot) start
flickering frantically, like crazy. It's pathetic.

It looks like the item called "Networks", just below "Trash", disappears
and reappears several times very quickly, causing all the items below it
to move down and up, hence the flickering.

Obviously it makes no sense.

Note: there's nothing wrong to be appreciated in my screenshot, it just
indicates where the flickering happens.

[Bug 1792403] [NEW] Nautilus 3.30 in Gnome Staging PP does not start without tracker package

2018-09-13 Thread Harry
Public bug reported:

Nautilus 3.30.0-0ubuntu1~cosmic1 in Gnome Staging PP does not start without
tracker package.
However the tracker package is now in the universe.
The official nautilus version 3.26.4-0ubuntu3 works fine without tracker which
is a suggested package anyway.

Trying to start nautilus from the terminal I get this error message:
Tracker-ERROR **: 20:33:14.659: Unable to find default domain ontology rule
/usr/share/tracker/domain-ontologies/default.rule

So the nautilus 3.30 seems to need the default.rule file.

[Bug 1791991] Re: Nautilus in Gnome3 Staging PPA does not create thumbnails (tiff)

2018-09-13 Thread Tim Lunn
thumbnailers are working fine for me, both tiff and jpg, perhaps there
is still a missing dependency, that is normally otherwise pulled in by
vanilla-gnome-desktop. I generally only test gnome3-staging on systems
with that meta package.

Can you file a separate bug for nautilus not starting without out the
tracker package installed. That will probably need to be optional when
nautilus 3.30 lands in Ubuntu proper next cycle.

[Bug 1792167] Re: Display size detected incorrectly

2018-09-13 Thread Dark Dragon
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected bionic

** Description changed:

Since Ubuntu switched to Gnome, display scaling does not work correctly.
This is because my external monitor is detected as 7" although it is
32". All applications which use Qt auto scaling have huge controls!

It seems like many users have the same problem
  (https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2390362) and thus disable Qt
auto scaling. I think the solution should be to fix the size detection
  instead.

Further, it seems not related to graphics driver, since I personally use
the open source driver with my internal Intel card, whereas someone else
  uses a proprietary Nvidia driver
  (https://askubuntu.com/q/1066879/206608).

If it is in the wrong category, please move it / add the corresponding
  packages.

If you need any further information to tackle the problem, just tell me!

[Bug 1792167] Re: Display size detected incorrectly

2018-09-13 Thread Dark Dragon
1. xrandr

I generated the output and attached the section for the external
display. I guess the first line already shows the problem:

HDMI-1 connected 1920x1080+1366+0 (0x8b) normal (normal left
inverted right x axis y axis) 160mm x 90mm

It includes "160mm x 90mm" which probably translates to 7".

2. apport

I generated the requested log. I installed Ubuntu 17.04, upgraded to
17.10 and now upgraded to 18.04. I use the latest kernel from
kernel.ubuntu.com.

[Bug 1792316] [NEW] Hebrew keyboard does not work

2018-09-13 Thread Victor Porton
Public bug reported:

When I switch the keyboard to Hebrew, it types English. (Russian input
works, however.)

Maybe it was broken after running these Bash commands:

v="[('xkb', 'us'), ('xkb', 'ru+typewriter'), ('xkb', 'il')]"
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources sources "$v"

Removing Hebrew layout "manually" (that is through the Gnome
configuration, not through a script) and adding it back (manually too)
does not help against the bug.

So, I can't type Hebrew anymore. Help!

[Bug 1780076] Re: 18.04 login screen is skewed/distorted (incorrect stride) when using hibmc_drm graphics

2018-09-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sounds like the fix is finally working in cosmic gdm version
3.30.0-0ubuntu2...?

I don't have the power to sponsor things or help any more. You will just
need to prepare a new patch for bionic, attach it here and wait for
ubuntu-sponsors.

[Bug 1780076] Re: 18.04 login screen is skewed/distorted (incorrect stride) when using hibmc_drm graphics

2018-09-13 Thread Bin Li
@vanvugt,

I've updated the Description with the 'Template of SRU', do you need
anything else? Thanks!

** Description changed:

- Upstream: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/219
+ [Impact]

- We found the login screen is blur, with Huawei's chip.
+ * The login screen is blur, with Huawei's Hi1710 chipset. And below is
+ the hardware information.

05:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
Hi1710 [iBMC Intelligent Management system chip w/VGA support]
  [19e5:1711] (rev 01)

- When we set the Wayland to disable, it could login.
+ * It's really big effect for our customer when they use the arm server.
+ It's an hardware specific issue, and I've debugged with the mutter for a
+ while upstream's help, but no luck. And the workaround patches was
+ accepted by upstream and now in 18.10.

- [daemon]
- # Uncoment the line below to force the login screen to use Xorg
- WaylandEnable=false
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * It's an hardware specific issue, installed the 18.04 on Huawei's
+ Hi1710 arm server. After boot up, you will found the login screen is
+ distorted.
+
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * It's just a kind of workaround, we add one the udev rule to skip
+ Huawei's chipset, which won't affects other platform.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * Upstream: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/219

@vanvugt,

Now the workaround patches were merged into 18.10, I thought we could
start the SRU process for 18.04. Could you help it? Thanks!

Disable wayland for Huawei Hi1710 chipsets.

The login screen is skewed/distorted on arm server, and I couldn't
find root cause, and no other developer ever has access to the hardware.
