Also sounds like closed bug 1786872 and maybe bug 1786883.

Apparently this is correct. Shell theming is not enabled by default.

To enable it, do:
  1. sudo apt install gnome-shell-extensions
  2. Gnome Tweaks > Extensions > User themes = ON
  3. Gnome Tweaks > Appearance > Shell = whatever

[Bug 1795721] [NEW] Newly mounted drive icons jumbled with Desktop icons.

2018-10-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The icons for newly mounted [flash] drives automatically appear directly
on top of existing desktop icons even if the the "Keep aligned" context
menu has previously been selected. It can easily be corrected by
selecting "Organize Desktop by Name" from the context menu, but past
versions of Ubuntu have usually accomplished this automatically upon
flash drive mounting without the need for doing it manually. I will
attach a screenshot where you can see the icons mixed together. It
appears to affect only flash drives and only the first one that is
inserted, as additional drives that are added appear automatically
organized on the Desktop. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the
size of the flash drive or not because my 2GB drive would not appear on
the Desktop (or anywhere else for that matter) at all...

Thomas,

Glad to hear the bug is fixed for you. It is an unfortunate feature of
Launchpad that many users can't tell whether a bug is open or closed.

This bug is actually closed already, by being a duplicate. So anyone can
keep commenting on it, but it won't show up in searches or bug counts
any more. There is nothing more that needs to be done.

Except for your case, I haven't seen actor-shader-effect fail in multiple
attempts.

It used to fail which was why it was skipped before 3.30.0-4.

[Bug 1772191] Re: GNOME Mines desktop file icon too small

2018-10-02 Thread Brian Murray
Hello AsciiWolf, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-mines into bionic-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
mines/1:3.28.0-1ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1795556] Re: mutter 3.30.0-4 FTBFS

2018-10-02 Thread Anders Kaseorg
That was a local build. I also saw it on Launchpad with an unrelated
patch (bug 1788483):

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/391298478/buildlog_ubuntu-
cosmic-i386.mutter_3.30.0-4andersk1_BUILDING.txt.gz

However, the failure seems to have disappeared with today’s updates of
other packages, or maybe the tests are just flaky. I’ll reopen this if
I see the failure again.

[Bug 1795702] [NEW] snap-store reports incorrect OS to odrs

2018-10-02 Thread Alan Pope 🍺🐧🐱 🦄
Public bug reported:

Install snap-store - "snap install snap-store"
Snap store - "snap run snap-store"
Find an application (I opened Wire)
Scroll down and click "Write a review"
Write a review.

Find your review on ODRS https://odrs.gnome.org
Note the "Distro" says "Ubuntu Core".
This is not correct, as I am on KDE Neon right now.

Here is mine. https://odrs.gnome.org/admin/review/9621
In case the content changes I have attached a screenshot.

This error is likely because snap-store is a confined snap application.

/etc/os-release is allowed in the default template. Note this will be of
the core/base snap, not the host. To read the host, you can use the
system-observe interface which exposes /var/lib/snapd/hostfs/etc/os-
release to the snap from the host.

[Bug 1795703] [NEW] Ubuntu Dock gets replaced with a standard GNOME one after a while

2018-10-02 Thread Kostiantyn Rybnikov
Public bug reported:

I don't reboot my desktop and don't hibernate it, it just works for
multiple days in a row without a reboot. I only turn off the monitor

Sometimes, after a while, when I turn on the monitor, Ubuntu's Dock is
no longer there and what I get is the GNOME Dock which is hidden and can
be seen by pressing "Super" (which shows all windows as well). This is
annoying.

[Bug 1775329] Re: Feature request: Add a handler for CVE URLs

2018-10-02 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I believe Debian would appreciate the feature linking to Debian's CVE
database there.

I'm fine with either runtime detection or compile-time selection. If it's
compile-time, I'd expect we would set it in debian/rules with something like
https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gnome-software/blob/debian/master/debian/rules#L46

Sorry I didn't see the follow-up questions until today.

This is probably fixed in gnome-shell 3.30.0-3ubuntu1. Please could you
re-test tomorrow when there's a new ISO?

[Bug 1756006] Re: FFe: Support suspend-then-hibernate

2018-10-02 Thread Jeremy Bicha
GNOME is discussing reverting this change for 3.30. Posted moments ago
in #control-center on irc.gnome.org:

benzea > I am getting tempted to consider reverting the change. two of the four
"common" suspend scenarios are not even covered by g-s-d i.e. if you close the
lid or use alt+click in the gnome-shell dropdown, you do a suspend.
we only changed the meaning of "suspend" for inactivity and pressing the
hardware power button

reasons

[Bug 1795668] [NEW] Enable bubblewrap in gnome-desktop3 for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

2018-10-02 Thread Jeremy Bicha
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Impact
==
gnome-desktop 3.26 hardened the thumbnailers with bubblewrap to mitigate
several vulnerabilities. Ubuntu had to disable that feature until bubblewrap
could be promoted to main.

bubblewrap is now in main for 18.10 and the feature is now enabled
there. The intention has been for that change to be backported to 18.04
LTS as a security fix.

The bubblewrap MIR is https://launchpad.net/bugs/1709164

We'll need to promote bubblewrap to main before this update should be
pushed to bionic.

Can you sponsor directly from the git repo instead of with a debdiff?

[Bug 1795649] [NEW] evince from snap doesn't save position in pdf document

2018-10-02 Thread Reverend Homer
Public bug reported:

I've installed evince 3.30.0 (46) via "sudo snap install evince" on
Ubuntu 18.04. Every time I'm running evince and opening pdf document, it
opens the document on the first page, though I closed the document on
the different page.

I can't reproduce that issue with evince installed via apt, so I think
this is a snap-specific issue.

Also, every time I'm opening the document, evince prints the error:
Error registering document:

[Bug 1795623] [NEW] Window titlebar context menus fail to appear in "Join displays" dual monitor mode

2018-10-02 Thread Paul White
Public bug reported:

New installation of Ubuntu 18.10, very few customisations made and I
find that the right-click menu on window title bars fails to appear.
Context menus do appear on application windows soI know that the mouse
is working correctly.

I previously saw this with GNOME Shell 3.29 and reported it in the
Ubuntu forums: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2398652 but no-
one else saw the issue so I went back to using 18.04 where this
functionality works as expected.

The problem seems to be my dual monitor set-up.

I have a laptop with an external monitor set to act as the primary
monitor. In that configuration the context menu fails to appear. If I
set the monitors to "Mirror" then the context menu appears. When
"Single" display is selected context menus also appear.

Conclusion: Window titlebar context menus fail to appear in "Join
displays" dual monitor mode

[Bug 1683445] Re: E6430 brightness control not working

2018-10-02 Thread Will Cooke
I've asked our OEM team to look for the hardware to test this on, but they
haven't got any.
We're in the position that as far as we can tell nothing is made *worse* by
this change, but we can't be sure if it actually fixes the problem or not. I
think this is safe to land now, but if anyone has hardware to test this on,
please help.
