[Bug 1800101] Re: gnome-shell uses 100% CPU

2018-11-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Can you please try uninstalling the Nvidia driver (for a moment),
reboot, and if the default 'nouveau' driver works for you then please
let us know if that also avoids the 100% CPU problem?

I am wondering if the problem is unique to the Nvidia driver.

[Bug 1801110] Re: gnome-shell crashes ending session upon DP monitor switch-away

2018-11-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1280300] Re: Desktop contents displayed on resume, before lock screen is shown

2018-11-01 Thread Carl-Erik Kopseng
I'd imagine a workaround could be to have a hook for suspend write to
the framebuffer, but I failed at getting this working when I tried today
(put a script in /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep to invoke eog in
fullscreen).

Regarding the comment above about this being fixed in "certified"
laptops, this doesn't seem to be 100% correct. See this on a Dell XPS
9350, and this machine was available in a "Developer edition" running
Ubuntu. Still see this issue.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

[Bug 1801110] [NEW] gnome-shell crashes ending session upon DP monitor switch-away

2018-11-01 Thread John
Public bug reported:

I have a DisplayPort switching arrangement consisting of a 4way DP
switch that switches 2, daisy-chained DP monitors.

Many times, but not always, when switching the displays away from this
host, gnome-shell crashes. Later, switching back, I'm presented with the
gdm login screen, previous session is gone.

journal trace.

[Bug 1800963] Re: Changing Primary DIsplay Flips Which Display Has The Dock

2018-11-01 Thread jimlovell777
apport information

** Tags added: ubuntu

** Description changed:

On a fresh install from at least Ubuntu 17.04 up to 18.10, when I change
Settings->Dock->Show on to a specific monitor on a dual monitor setup,
this setting gets flipped if I change the primary display in
  Settings->Devices->Displays->Primary Display.

For Example I have Monitor A and Monitor B
After a fresh install Monitor A is primary with title bar, clock, etc. and
the dock. If I change the dock to Show on Monitor B it moves as desired. But
when I change Primary Display to Monitor B also, the dock immediately goes to
Monitor A again. When I check the Show on setting it still displays Monitor B
but it's actually on Monitor A. Selecting Monitor A will move the dock to
Monitor B.

please enter the following command in a terminal window:

apport-collect -p xorg-server 1800963

and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

[Bug 1801098] [NEW] gnome-software does not exit a search

2018-11-01 Thread C de-Avillez
Public bug reported:

I (accidentally) started Rhythmbox for the firt time ever at this
laptop. It started, and a pop-up came asking if I wanted to install
additional needed codecs (title line says "Available software for MPEG-4
ACC decoder", so I guess this was the search argument.

I accepted, and gnome-software opened with a search result for GSTreamer
codecs. I installed two of them, life is good, closed (Alt-F4) gnome-
software.

Then I decided to install some other package via GS as well. Opened
(again) it, and... I am shown a search result for GStreamer codecs. I
cannot exit this search. (via the "<" at the left of the title line). I
can only close the thing.

End result: gnome-software is now, for all practical purposes,
unavailable. Hence, the bug.

[Bug 1778011] Re: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power

2018-11-01 Thread Stefan Girstmair
Or should I maybe try to make a clean install of 18.10 as you said that
it should be fixed in it and maybe I just have some stuff from 18.04
still here that does not work and I am not experienced enough to find
it? I just thought that there would be a way to make it work here.

[Bug 1774188] Re: Unlocking the screen takes 5 seconds in Xorg sessions (not so much in Wayland sessions)

2018-11-01 Thread bitinerant
I occasionally see this on two separate 18.04 installations using Xorg
sessions. The time to unlock varies from a couple of seconds to several
minutes. Everything other than unlocking the screen feels to work at a
normal speed.

I can reliably reproduce this issue (cause screen unlocking to take
several minutes) by reading files from my Android 8 phone over USB
(phone in "Use USB to transfer files" mode; Ubuntu directory
/run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp:host...). (Probably not related, but this file
transfer seems extremely slow.)

See also: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1038723 (5 people
experiencing this issue; no solution)

yes, thank you!
I marked the ticket as invalid (and also found the culprit which thought it
was very funny ... :) )
