[Bug 1801602] Re: Gnome 3 fullscreen doesn't work for some applications

2018-11-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sounds like equal blame on the application, window manager (mutter) and
the user :)

* Application: Is 640x480 still so may be to blame for ignoring window
resize requests.

* Window manager: May be ignoring the "Fullscreen" state on the
window(?). But not sure, since it works with the above workaround.

* User: Added custom mode "960x540" which seems to be confusing the
system.

** Summary changed:

[Bug 1763892] Re: 144Hz/120Hz monitor but mutter seems to cap rendering at 60FPS

2018-11-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
When this bug was first reported in 17.10 it was a Wayland-only bug and the fix
for that is awaiting review:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/merge_requests/171

However since 18.04, a patch was introduced to Ubuntu/Debian that seems
to be affecting Xorg sessions now too. So I think that also needs
removing to fix this bug: clutter-Smooth-out-master-clock-to-smooth-
visuals.patch

[Bug 1778011] Re: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power

2018-11-08 Thread Krzysztof Janowicz
@Andrew, @Alberto: Looks like many Thinkpad X1 Extreme users are
reporting the same issue where prime-select seems to work but does not
power of the nvidia card nor shows up in nvidia-settings. I followed the
instructions the same way Andrew did and got the same 'not found'
message. I assumed the packages are in updates by now and we should all
have them anyway. Apt tells me that 390.77-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 is the
newest version. Am I missing something? I have the same issue as I had
before (NVIDIA GTX 1050 TI). Thanks for your help.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

[Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen

2018-11-08 Thread Mike Chaberski
This seems like a duplicate of #1716982, but maybe it's a regression
after that was fixed. Anyway, commenter ernstp identifies the cause in
comment #12 [1]:

> Is it some global variable name conflict between the two extensions?
"dockManager" perhaps?

You can edit /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ubuntu-
d...@ubuntu.com/extension.js to check for a null dockManager in the
disable() function. That is, change

dockManager.destroy()

to

if (dockManager != null) {
dockManager.destroy();
}

and the dock disappears when the screen is locked, as expected.

I'm guessing the problem is that Dash To Dock sets dockManager to null
after calling destroy(), and then Ubuntu Dock throws a TypeError when it
tries to do the same, so Ubuntu Dock never reaches the
ExtensionSystem.disconnect() call.

And with more testing, it seems like the activities button target is
smaller and/or lower under Wayland than it is in Xorg. I can get it to
work if i aim for the bottom of the black top bar, vs the middle of it

[Bug 1802331] [NEW] Drop down menus appear in wrong position when using multiple monitors arranged vertically

2018-11-08 Thread Paul Crockett
Public bug reported:

I am using multiple monitors arranged as shown below:

++++
|__3_||__2_|
||||
++++
   +-+
   |1|
   |_|
   +-+

Monitors 1 and 3 have different resolutions (1920x1080 and 1600x900) and
are arranged so that their right edges align.

When opening a drop down menu (such as the 'File' menu in terminal) that
appears to the top left of a full-screen application on monitor 3, the
drop down menu position is offset horizontally. It is as if menus that
appear at the left of monitor 3 are 'pushed' to the right so that they
are in line with monitor 1.

The attached screen capture shows roughly where the File menu drop down
appears.

Menus on monitors 1 and 2 appear in the expected location.

I imagine this is a problem with GNOME 3, as I never had this problem
with Unity on Ubuntu 16, and it seems to affect all applications.

arranged so that their right edges align.
+ Monitors 1 and 3 have different resolutions (1920x1080 and 1600x900) and
+ are arranged so that their right edges align.

[Bug 225361] Re: .gvfs can't be stat'd by root causing backup tools to fail

2018-11-08 Thread Ralph Corderoy
It doesn't matter where you move the directory to, if it can't be
stat(2)'d then it's a POSIX violation and breaks programs. The example
of a user running rsync on their home directory doesn't mean that's the
only situation that should work.
