[Bug 1815378] Re: gvfs spins up sleeping HDD even if all partitions unmounted

2019-02-17 Thread Emile D
Thank you for the advice, it's hard to find the right place for a bug
report.

I opened a report here : https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/issues/375

[Bug 1771943] Re: nautilus accessing samba shares doesn't use cached credentials

2019-02-17 Thread piviul
BINGO!

I have downloaded the packages you provided me in https://launchpad.net
/~ubuntu-desktop/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/16391488, installed them and
now nautilus (gvfs) use, as expected, cached credential to access to
samba shares and doesn't ask for a password.

Thank you very much Sebastien!

...but now do you think these patched gvs packages will be available to
the official ubuntu 18.04 repositories?

[Bug 1767817] Re: Full text search does not work

2019-02-17 Thread Thatoo
It is actually for me a reason to finally drop Ubuntu.
At least if they decide to abandon Ubuntu Touch and Unity to move back to
Gnome, they should at least do it good and nor providing an OS that doesn't
provide a proper modern search tool.

I usually don't say bad about free software devs because I respect them
too much and I depend on them because I care about freedom but damn,
sometime I don't understand their choices and priorities...

Just seen this on Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS with Unity desktop.
GNOME Terminal is useless without mnemonics. It is time to use `mate-terminal`

[Bug 1816308] [NEW] gnome-shell crashes with SIGSEGV in meta_window_actor_is_destroyed() when changing workspace after several minutes of work in one workspace

2019-02-17 Thread Michael Grivas
Public bug reported:

After some recent update, I face the following issue:
Working on a workspace for some time (cannot say how much time), with or
without lots of windows open, the workspace takes 2-3 minutes to recover, shows
a crash dialog and restarts gnome.

In fewer cases, after days of not rebooting, the gnome-shell dies
instead of restarting, killing the session.

I normally click to submit the bug reports, which should be in:
https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/b56fc2894b10f99f5b9629befd4030528cf0fe943fd6d376f53b724791abcc83b582e15ae82346f04a637b2c7be643f2749a1bdec23b9bc4b9d8cd4c4aa1070e

There are both created the /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id and
/var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash .
The ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash does not work. Seems
like apport-gtk is frozen.

The next updates did not fix it.

[Bug 1767817] Re: Full text search does not work

Ubuntu 18.10 with tracker installed:
With Tracker Search Provider by hamiller Plugin for Gnome Shell, Full-text
Search works, but is limited to 5 results as or2V has written. Full text search
within Nautilus does not.
I still do not understand the classification of the bug on low priority. I
can't believe this.

[Bug 1767817] Re: Full text search does not work

2019-02-17 Thread or2v
Same problem with a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.10, with Gnome Files/Nautilus
3.26.4.
Tracker is not installed by default. I had to install it afterward. Works fine
in command line into the terminal. But this is not enough.

With Gnome Tweak, menu "Plug-ins", Tracker Search (Integrates tracker-
search into the gnome-shell desktop)" is shown with an alert sign (⚠).
It cannot be activated.

Is that the problem ?

(I installed, from Ubuntu software, the other plug-in "Tracker search provider
(Provides tracker search results in overview)".
I checked with Gnome Tweak, it is activated. Then, search with the "Activities
Overview" provides 2 categories of search results, "Files" with 5 results on
the file name, and "tracker-needle", with 5 results on the full text. Results
are presented at the speed of light, type-as-you-go style wished by @William.
But this limitation to 5 results is not very convenient, and once away from the
Overview and back, the search results are lost. You have to retype your search
query all over again…)

@Mordi I installed Gnome Documents. It does present full text search
results, but limited to the documents in the formats it deals with
((pdf, docx, odt…), but, strangely not for the plain text documents…

So the only way so far to do complete plain text search with tracker, is
to use the terminal. Very strange, since MacOS as well as Windows do
this very well with their file managers. (And Ubuntu used to do it
before 17.10 at the time of Unity.)

I share the opinion of @bdr529 and @sojusnik that this lack of easy Full
text search is ridiculous, and that it should work out of the box. This
is a high priority bug.

[Bug 1715722] Re: Allow safe override of GDM3 theme

2019-02-17 Thread Jean-Pierre van Riel
I've noticed in 18.04.2 (upgraded from 16.04 LTS), with gnome-shell
3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.4 and ubuntu-session 3.28.1-0ubuntu3, the *lock*
screen is still pinning to /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css.
Note, the login session screen is using the correct theme.

This is related: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell/+bug/1732450.

As per https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell/+bug/1732450/comments/5, the nasty I did to work around it shows
the gdm3 / session lock screen theme is still pointed directly to
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css instead of /usr/share/gnome-
shell/theme/gdm3.css.

I also checked the alternative symlinking, and indeed, `pop.css` was
supposed to be used, yet the lock screen used ubuntu.css.

```
$ update-alternatives --display gdm3.css
gdm3.css - auto mode
  link best version is /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/pop.css
  link currently points to /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/pop.css
  link gdm3.css is /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/gdm3.css
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/pop.css - priority 20
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css - priority 10
[Bug 1732450] Re: Lock screen doesn't respect gnome shell theme choice
2019-02-17 Thread Jean-Pierre van Riel
I roughly understand this issue might be something to do with ubuntu-
session package hard configuring the gdm login screen to use ubuntu.css?
Is this not a sub-effect / possible duplicate bug of:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1715722 ?
Also see: https://github.com/pop-os/gtk-theme/issues/123
I did this very dodgy hack:
```
cd /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme
sudo mv ubuntu.css ubuntu.css.bak-dist_1804
sudo ln -s pop.css ubuntu.css
```
Note, I don't symlink `ubuntu.css` to `gdm3.css`, because this might
cause circular referencing if the default theme was selected given this
is how symlinks could stack:
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/gdm3.css -> /etc/alternatives/gdm3.css ->
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css
Anyhow, the above is temp work-around, and I know that ubuntu.css will get
clobbered next time the gnome-shell-common package updates, but so be it.
[Bug 1816265] [NEW] Disco Dingo Wayland Fractional Scale
2019-02-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:
Installed live session on a Dell XPS 13. Runs really well but after
enabling wayland and turning on the experimental bits
gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor-
framebuffer']"
I still don't get fractional scaling on the single laptop screen (100,
200 etc only).
When an external monitor is plugged in I do then get fractional scaling
and it works well.
This needs to be available on a single monitor as well.
