Re: [Bug 1817466] Re: Ram usage increases gradually until it reaches 100% and a hard reset is needed.

2019-02-24 Thread Dominic
I have switched to lightdm to avoid the bug, I will switch back this
evening to cause the problem again, RAM usage was measured by System
Monitor, CPU usage was not high, only RAM usage which slowly increased
until the display froze. The issue has been reported by multiple users
in the forum (see link in my original message). Currently running
default Ubuntu desktop with lightdm, RAM usage remains steady over
several hours usage.

[Bug 1817335] Re: Freeze when changing the volume with the mouse wheel

2019-02-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. Though #1 didn't work for some reason... Could you perhaps
please log the bug again by running this command:

  ubuntu-bug gnome-shell

And then we can just make this a duplicate of that.

The reason is that we still don't have any system details, which should
have been uploaded by 'apport-collect'.

2019-02-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Jonathan,

1. If you have any gnome-shell extensions loaded then please uninstall
them all, reboot, and tell us if that fixes the problem. If you don't
know how then just go to step 2.

2. It sounds likely the gnome-shell process is crashing, so if the
problem persists please log into a virtual terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F4 etc)
and follow these instructions:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

Mark,

In case you are experiencing a different problem (and it's likely you
are), please log a separate bug if you have any more trouble by running:

[Bug 1814125] [NEW] [nvidia-415] gnome-shell eats 100% cpu when seconds display is on and screen is locked

2019-02-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

on my laptop (xiaomi notebook pro), ubuntu 18.10 amd64, standart ubuntu desktop
(gnome-shell), no application running
just activate second display in gnome tweak, let it lock itself
the fan is going fast, simply moving the mouse and the fan slow down.
wrote a simple script to append a top every minut in a log file, show that
gnome-shell consumes 100% when locked.
workaround : disabling second displaying and no more CPU usage / fan noise when
locked.

[Bug 1817485] [NEW] Bionic "amplified" sound controls do not sync with volume slider

2019-02-24 Thread Erick Brunzell
Public bug reported:

I'm just setting up my first Bionic HTPC and I notice that if you select
allow-amplified-volume in dconf that change only applies to the volume
slider, not to the sound control UI. This results in the volume hot-keys
not controlling sound above 100%.

So if you're watching video content in full screen you must ESC, then
use the volume slider, and then go back to full screen. It makes for an
unwieldy process so using a different DE becomes a temptation.

You can see what I'm talking about in the attached screenshot.

[Bug 1722286] Re: Same action is forced for lid-close on AC and lid-close on battery

2019-02-24 Thread PabloAB
It seems there is no issue filed upstream. The closest thing I'd found is:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings-daemon/issues/111
Nothing about lid-close-ac-action and lid-close-battery-action.
I'm not sure if an upstream bug issue should be filed.

I read [this][1] and [this][2] on but only locks when lid-close.

[Bug 1817466] [NEW] Ram usage increases gradually until it reaches 100% and a hard reset is needed.

2019-02-24 Thread Dominic
Public bug reported:

Running Ubuntu 18.04 on Dell Latitude-E5420 with 3.7 GB RAM Gnome 3.28.2.
Updated from Ubuntu 16.04. Applications freeze after about an hour continuous
use, while applications are running RAM use increases gradually typically from
about 55% to 100%.
The solution is to use lightdm as the display manager. Default Ubuntu DE
appears to work fine with lightdm.
I tested other DEs with gdm3 and the same problem was present. The problem has
been reported in forums
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2390915 with a number of users
reporting that the solution is to use lightdm,
