[Bug 1820859] Re: /usr/bin/nautilus:11:g_application_impl_get_dbus_object_path:g_application_get_dbus_object_path:update_dbus_opened_locations:bus_acquired_cb:connection_get_cb

2019-06-13 Thread Khurshid Alam
How to reproduce this ?

Previously crash was in `nautilus_window_slot_get_location` which is now
fixed upstream.

With 3.32.1-1ubuntu1, I can't reproduce with G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all
/usr/bin/nautilus. Can you copy/paste error as I don't have access?

But we don't really to update windows locations when
org.freedesktop.FileManager1 is acquired or being acquired. If there is
still a error I will open a merge.

[Bug 1716857] Re: nvidia-drm.modeset=1 results in no monitors detected by Xorg

2019-06-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Nvidia 430.26 behaves a bit differently. It just fails to start as non-
root and gives reasons:

[ 897.467] xf86EnableIOPorts: failed to set IOPL for I/O (Operation not
permitted)
...
[ 897.470] (EE) NVIDIA: Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module. Please

and

[ 897.470] (EE) [drm] Failed to open DRM device for pci::01:00.0: -2

So then the NVIDIA driver gives up and Xorg tries the modeset driver
instead. Modeset seems to detect my monitor fine (got the EDID) but then
fails with bug 1813897.

This is now a bit off-topic, but I suspect the above problem with
nvidia-430 will have the same fix as this bug.

[Bug 1832793] [NEW] Size is not right with hidpi (both 2x and 1x with font scaling)

2019-06-13 Thread Carlos Pita
Public bug reported:

I've tried this in two different hidpi monitors with different scaling
configurations:

1) A 1920x1080 screen with scale factor 1x and font scale factor 1.25.

2) A 3000x2000 screen with scale factor 2x.

In the first one, icons are too small, I have to change:

   this._iconBox = new AppIndicator.IconActor(indicator,
Panel.PANEL_ICON_SIZE + 6);

to

   this._iconBox = new AppIndicator.IconActor(indicator,
Panel.PANEL_ICON_SIZE + 12);

OTOH, icons are a little too big in the second setting and I have to do:

   this._iconBox = new AppIndicator.IconActor(indicator,
Panel.PANEL_ICON_SIZE + 2);

Icons directly managed by gnome shell are not sized according to
PANEL_ICON_SIZE, see:

   https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
shell/blob/master/js/ui/panelMenu.js

Short of a smarter way of computing icons size, you could provide a
setting to adjust it so that the user could fine tune it if necessary
without hacking the code.

I've changed `baseIconSizes` from the looking glass and I get bigger
icons. This doesn't seem to be hard to fix really. Maybe the size
restriction should be checked *before* scaling up 2x. Maybe bigger icons
should be allowed.

[Bug 1832792] [NEW] App-switcher icons too small with hidpi (3000x2000) monitor

2019-06-13 Thread Carlos Pita
Public bug reported:

I've reported this upstream (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
shell/issues/1370), but given that this is an important part of the
Ubuntu desktop and that you're providing some patches for improving the
X11 experience with hidpi monitors, I'm notifying about the issue here
too.

It could be related to my previous similar report for fractional scaling
resolutions: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell/+bug/1831161. But I'm not sure. Besides, fractional scaling is an
experimental feature while 2x is not.

Comment #116 appears to be linking to the wrong bug. That link is for
nvidia-drm.modeset=1 and this bug is specifically about when you don't
have that set, like the default.

2019-06-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Not yet. I am just untangling more Nvidia bugs today.

Also, I forgot to mention that you CAN run Xorg+Nvidia and see your
monitors as non-root. But only after you have started and stopped Xorg
as root beforehand. Something gets remembered, maybe in $HOME somewhere?

[Bug 1716857] Re: gdm3, hybrid nvidia with modeset=1, no external monitors detected

2019-06-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
In a more pure development environment, I can confirm this bug without
needing hybrid GPUs, or gdm3.

Just the Nvidia driver and Xorg results in no outputs/monitors detected:

$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 640 x 480, maximum 16384 x 16384

To work around the problem I need to run Xorg as root. Then I get:

$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1920 x 1200, maximum 16384 x 16384
DVI-I-0 disconnected primary (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-I-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-1 connected 1920x1200+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 518mm x
324mm
   1920x1200 59.95*+  59.88
   1920x1080 60.0059.9450.0023.98
   1600x1200 60.00
   1280x1024 75.0260.02
   1280x720  60.0059.9450.00
   1152x864  75.00
   1024x768  75.0360.00
   800x600   75.0060.32
   720x576   50.00
   720x480   59.94
   640x480   75.0059.9459.93

So perhaps gdm3 is sometimes missing whatever /dev/* privileges it needs
to start Xorg on Nvidia properly. And perhaps lightdm just always does
it right.

Although a solution here in the medium term might lay in gdm3, I would
more like to see the Nvidia driver fix this bug. Because I can reproduce
it without any *dm. Just the kernel + Nvidia driver + Xorg.

[Bug 1832693] [NEW] System auto suspend again during resuming

2019-06-13 Thread cktenn
Public bug reported:

## Issue
In certain case, system wake-up from suspend will suspend again automatically.

The issue comes from a target machine turning auto-suspend on and
suspends after the idle time-out. Manually suspend, e.g., click suspend
icon or execute "systemctl suspend" won't reproduce the issue.

When waking up from this situation, the monitor keeps blank, although
the monitor has exited low power mode, then suspend again immediately.
Can successfully waking up the system after that, but once the system
reaches the idle time again, the issue appears repeatedly. From the
system log, a sleep request is following the wake request.

Hardware configuration also counts. It is hard to reproduce the issue
with the system installed on SSD or with a lower resolution monitor;
graphics card may also affect. It's likely to be a timing issue.

## Environment
Machine: Dell Precision 7920 Tower.
Monitor: Philips 288P6L
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04.2
Graphics card: Nvidia Quadro P2200
Nvidia driver version: 418.74
CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(R) Platinum 8276 CPU @ 2.20GHz

## Steps to reproduce:
Turn on automatic suspend in Settings->Power
Wait for the system to suspend
Wake up the system via pressing power button or keyboard.

[Bug 1813173] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in clutter_container_get_child_meta()

2019-06-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes, that does seem to be the problem, most likely. The only calls to
'get_child_meta' in gnome-shell are in environment.js, which seems to be
called from the GPaste extension per the above comment.

I recommend uninstalling the GPaste extension.

It appears this crash is not very common, suggesting it might be related
to some extension(s).

You seem to have installed:

'weatherinthecl...@jasonlg1979.github.io'
'gpa...@gnome-shell-extensions.gnome.org'
'sound-output-device-choo...@kgshank.net'

so please try uninstalling those completely, and tell us if the crash
