[Bug 1834784] Re: Xorg freeze

When the problem happens does the mouse pointer freeze too?

Only if the mouse pointer freezes is it the Xorg process that's frozen.

[Bug 1834807] [NEW] Two alert sounds playing at the same time

2019-06-30 Thread Douglas Silva
Public bug reported:

One is the alert sound chosen through GNOME's sound settings, the other
seems to be the default alert from the sound theme, which we can't
change without using dconf-editor.

When an alert sound is triggered, both sounds play at the same time
instead of one.

Things I've tried:
- Disabled/muted the alert sound from GNOME Settings. This mutes both of the
alert sounds. I expect only one to play.
- Switched through different alert sounds in GNOME Settings. Problem persists.
- Logged out and back in. Problem persists.

How to reproduce:
- Go to GNOME Settings, select the Sound category, go to the tab Sound Effects
and select any of the alert sounds in the list.
- Make sure sounds are not muted.
- Test it by opening a terminal window and pressing Backspace without typing
any other characters. This will produce the sound.

Running Ubuntu 18.04.2, up-to-date, fresh install.

See attached log file.

[Bug 1834785] Re: GIMP 2.10.12 (kesselgulash ppa version) crashed after I tried to switch the theme from dark to light

2019-06-30 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
1) Under no circumstances is KDE Neon supported here. Only official
Ubuntu flavors are supported here. Bug reports for KDE Neon need to be
directed to the KDE Neon developers.

2) GIMP 2.10 is not included in the Ubuntu 18.04 repositories, and
packages from most PPAs are not supported. Please direct your report to
the owner of that PPA.

For those reasons, this bug is invalid.

** Description changed:

I run KDE Neon (version 5.16), based on Ubuntu Bionic.

The repo comes with GIMP 2.8. I installed GIMP 2.10.12 using the otto-
  kesselgulasch ppa.

I opened GIMP, went to Edit > Preferences > Interface theme, and chose
"system theme". GIMP immediately crashed. I don't understand what
package could be missing. It is reproducible every time.

I've had this issue before and in the end I removed everything GIMP-
related and went back to 2.8.

[Bug 1834785] [NEW] GIMP 2.10.12 (kesselgulash ppa version) crashed after I tried to switch the theme from dark to light

2019-06-30 Thread Nad
Public bug reported:

I run KDE Neon (version 5.16), based on Ubuntu Bionic.

The repo comes with GIMP 2.8. I installed GIMP 2.10.12 using the otto-
kesselgulasch ppa.

I opened GIMP, went to Edit > Preferences > Interface theme, and chose
"system theme". GIMP immediately crashed. I don't understand what
package could be missing. It is reproducible every time.

I've had this issue before and in the end I removed everything GIMP-
related and went back to 2.8.

Please describe the problem:
Rotate a jpg photo left and save it. The last line of the new picture will
display incorrect pixels.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Rotate a (jpeg) file once left.
2. Save the picture.

Actual results:
The last line of the new image displays incorrect pixels.

Expected results:
Same output as rotating and saving the image with GIMP.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Other information:
- Seems not to occur after rotating right.
- Ok with other jpg files.

Indeed.
This appears to be related to the lossless JPG transformations as it is
reproducible with jpegtran.

I don't know if there is anything against it we can do inside EOG.

A workaround would be to save the rotated image in PNG-format (lossless)
and then save the PNG-File as a JPG again.

I can reproduce it as well. These pixels are not really wrong, but they
correspond to the opposite row (or column). If this is inside libjpeg we

Hmm, I don't think this is a problem with libjpeg but with lossless jpeg
transformations in general. It could be what Alan Horkan talks about in bug
338138 comment 9 (first paragraph). Rotating the image would apparently require
trimming the image to a multiple of 16.
The question is: Can we detect this and warn the user (and possibly let him
decide what to do)?

In contrast to eog, gthumb does detect this situation and displays a
dialog with the following text:

This transformation may introduce small image distortions along one or
more edges, because the image dimensions are not multiples of 8.

The distortion is reversible, however. If the resulting image is
unacceptable, simply apply the reverse transformation to return to the
original image.

You can also choose to discard (or trim) any untransformable edge
pixels. For practical use, this mode gives the best looking results, but
the transformation is not strictly lossless anymore.

It then gives the options: "Trim", "Cancel" and "Accept distortions".
