[Bug 1846398] Re: Fractional scaling has significant visible refreshes on a 4k display
At least I *hope* that Wayland would perform better. If you're using Wayland with multiple monitors then for some people it might not, due to bug 1730460: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/3 My goal is to have a fix for that landed in GNOME next year. Which was on one of the slides I missed in my performance talk :) ** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues #3 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/3 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846398 Title: Fractional scaling has significant visible refreshes on a 4k display To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1846398/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1846398] Re: Fractional scaling has significant visible refreshes on a 4k display
I can't yet tell which issue this is, but it sounds likely to be one of https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/x11-hidpi-scaling-available-for-testing-on-disco/10293/3 If you need a fractional scale value then you should find the implementation for Wayland sessions performs better and is more complete. Because it doesn't have to deal with legacy Xorg. If you need Xorg then using whole scale values (n * 100%) works better as you mentioned, because it avoids the Xorg fractional scaling path. ** Tags added: performance -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846398 Title: Fractional scaling has significant visible refreshes on a 4k display To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1846398/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1846330] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846330 Title: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1846330/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1846201] Re: Rendering is delayed on laptop display (works in external display)
OK, this sounds like a mutter bug... unless that weirdness in your Xrandr.txt is related: eDP-1 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) ... DP-1 connected primary 2560x1440+0+0 (0x152) normal (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 600mm x 340mm This means the desktop is arranged primarily to fit your external monitor (DP-1) but the built-in screen (eDP-1) has no known position. [Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Trying to log in just takes me back to the login screen. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it.
Here's the failedlogin.txt. By the way, when turning off auto login, everything works normally; I'm greeted with the login screen when the machine boots, I type in my password, and I'm logged in successfully. It's apparently just after the first failed auto-login that subsequent logins don't work. Also, after that first failed automatic login when auto login is enabled, if I switch to a TTY, my framebuffer will sometimes be filled by a low-res gnome desktop. I assume this is related, and it makes sense that gdm would be confused if there's indeed a running gnome session for my user which doesn't work. ** Attachment added: "failedlogin.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/1845801/+attachment/5293738/+files/failedlogin.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1845801 Title: [nvidia] Trying to log in just takes me back to the login screen. [Bug 1846255] Re: No cursor in gnome-terminal 3.34.0-1ubuntu2 (eoan)
And regarding "Can you recall when was the last time the cursor showed up correctly for you? (Like, about 1 day ago, about 1 week ago...?) Was that on disco, or eoan beta?" I cannot be sure, but it probably was within the last week that it still worked with the custom theme I had. I am tempted to say that this was "definitely" on eoan beta: - As mentioned, I had switched to the custom theme because of a change of background color due to the system theme, and that was definitely well after my upgrade to eoan (which was nearly a month ago) - I am "pretty" sure that I would have noticed if the cursor had disappeared right after switching to the custom theme as you can't edit a command line without a cursor -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846255 Title: No cursor in gnome-terminal 3.34.0-1ubuntu2 (eoan) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1846255/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1846255] Re: No cursor in gnome-terminal 3.34.0-1ubuntu2 (eoan)
Thanks. My results: No cursor visible with the command running. No cursor with any of the three cursor shapes selected (and blinking off). Colors: This did it. My system theme option was unchecked (I did that recently after some Yaru (I think) update in Eoan changed the background color from purple to gray). Therefore I had a custom theme, which did work before the cursor problem appeared: Default: white text (#FF), purple background (#3E0937) Bold: checked, same colors Cursor color: checked, same colors So now I checked the system theme option again and restarted the gnome- terminal. The background color is back to purple as it should be and the cursor is back. Thanks! However, there still seems to be a problem: When I uncheck the system theme option again (using the same custom colors) and restart the terminal, the cursor is gone again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846255 Title: No cursor in gnome-terminal 3.34.0-1ubuntu2 (eoan) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1846255/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1846319] [NEW] Gnome battery indicator turns red at 50%
Public bug reported: I am running Ubuntu Eoan Beta on a Dell XPS13 9630. When running on battery, the Gnome power indicator in the top bar turns red when the charge falls to 50% or lower. [Bug 1846201] Re: Rendering is delayed on laptop display (works in external display)
I wonder if the delay is equal to the number of buffers' whose damage mutter is tracking... What this means is that it could take 3 or 4 frames to update everything. I've seen reports of such issues in mutter 3.34, like bug 1845623. If you have a separate window animating in the corner of the screen (glxgears or a video) then does that work around the problem? How about if you have a maximized window constantly updating underneath? ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846201 Title: Rendering is delayed on laptop display (works in external display) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1846201/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1846255] Re: No cursor in gnome-terminal 3.34.0-1ubuntu2 (eoan)
Could you please execute this command? Do you see a cursor while it is running? echo -ne '\e[?25h\e]112\e\\'; sleep 1000 If not, then while the previous command is still running: Please open gnome-terminal's preferences, click on your profile in the left-side bar. Disable cursor blinking, and try all three available cursor shapes. Does any of them appear? Still while that command is running: Go to the Colors tab of this preference, is Cursor color enabled here? (Is it perhaps set to the same color as your background?) Does changing that setting make any difference? What if you set a custom cursor background color? Can you recall when was the last time the cursor showed up correctly for you? [Bug 1846201] Re: Rendering is delayed on laptop display (works in external display)
Ubuntu on Wayland has same behavior, but worst. Video attached shows open a new tab with CTRL+T and the new tab not being rendered until I create a new. Then I remove both, I create a new one, not rendered, and got rendered only when the mouse is moved. https://photos.app.goo.gl/6Nc6oABXs1xX1ks26 This worked fine in 19.04 and works fine now with external display. I'll send another video showing how windows animation for align right/left do not work, windows just step from one state to the next with no animation.
