I can reproduce this bug, the same happens for me after a fresh install
of focal-daily. A workaround for me was to remove snapd and reinstall
it.

[Bug 1856516] Re: Excessive memory usage by gnome-shell in 19.10

2020-02-27 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Using a wrapper script for gnome-shell actually breaks things, because
now systemd thinks the wrong process is sending ready signals
(everything starts up fine, but then gets killed after 10 seconds once
systemd decides its timed out).

And the problem is that all the processes inherit their environment from
gnome-shell; without code changes I can't limit the the tracing to
*just* gnome-shell.

The one-line Pop!OS solution

Pop!OS has used this for several releases now, just saying.

[Bug 1864307] Re: Many apps have no icon in Software on Focal

2020-02-27 Thread Matthias Klumpp
There are two things which could be the cause for this:
 1) The appstream-generator used for Focal is old, and there were quite a few
fixes to find more icons and ignore apps without sufficient icon data in more
recent releases. @laney will hopefully update the tool ;-)

 2) GNOME Software has a bug which makes it always load stock icons for
applications, even if they are actually not available on the system and
GS should fall back to the cached icons. We've seen this in Debian but I
haven't had the time yet to investigate this further.

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2020-02-27 Thread SimonWerner
I got this problem today and I get it maybe once or twice a month. I'm
running Ubuntu 19.10 with Gnome 3.34.2. Today the problem was occurring
with my laptop trackpad. It corrected itself when I turned on my
wireless Logitech mouse. I keep my GNOME extensions pretty minimal, I
only have GNOME Tweaks and Launch New Instance.

[Bug 1865076] [NEW] Fingerprint swipe to login doesn't work

2020-02-27 Thread Jen
Public bug reported:

After enrolling my right index fingerprint to ElanTech Fingerprint
Sensor, I am unable to login via fingerprint swipe. I am able to see the
(very faint) option to swipe my finger under the password entry field,
but when I swipe, nothing happens. I've tried swiping both directions,
just touching the sensor like I was able to in Windows (I used to dual
boot) and holding my finger down for a few seconds. There's no
indication of whether the sensor read anything and it just didn't
process, or if it's just not getting any info.

I'm including the apt-cache policy for control center and for the gnome
shell, jic it's not a problem with the control center.

This is almost the same issue as my previous bug with disco, but I've noticed
that if I'm plugged in before I boot, then the indicator knows it. But not if
I plug in while the computer is awake or suspended/hibernating. If I plug in
while it's suspended or hibernating, the indicator doesn't update.

[Bug 1865063] [NEW] snapd package hangs on deb postinst

You have been subscribed to a public bug by AsciiWolf (asciiwolf):

The snapd package version 2.44~pre1+20.04 on latest Ubuntu 20.04 hangs
during upgrade, breaking the upgrade process.

This is printed on stdout before it hangs forever:
snapd.failure.service is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it.
snapd.snap-repair.service is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it.

How to reproduce:
Upgrade snapd deb package to a new version or manually run "sudo
dpkg-reconfigure snapd" on a system with snapd-2.44~pre1+20.04 installed.

I have this issue on Wayland (Pop OS) as well. About every 10th copy
fails for me. Are you sure this is a X issue only?

[Bug 1864635] Re: "Steam Installer" not available in Software app since latest Steam update

2020-02-27 Thread AsciiWolf
Another possible solution could be to revert the Steam Installer
AppStream file changes completely (keep just the http/https changes and
appdata/metainfo file rename). The .desktop suffix in tag is not
used anymore and the stock icon type is not good according to the
appstream-util validator, but it made appstream-generator happy and
everything worked fine (except launching Steam directly from the
Software app, but that is a minor thing in my opinion).
