[Bug 1832222] Re: using aakar font reboots printer
Because the Aakar font is part of the fonts-gujr-extra package. To re-phrase the problem: On certain text input, the Aakar font emits a reset command to the printer. In contrast, other non-Latin fonts (e.g. STZhongsong) when presented with Latin characters gracefully degrade to a default Latin font. Alternatively, it could be replaced in the output by a "unknown character" symbol, there is even a Unicode code point for that: U+FFFD REPLACEMENT CHARACTER used to replace an unknown, unrecognized or unrepresentable character. [Bug 1872853] [NEW] Keys stuck on repeat when key triggers sound, and output device is ClearOne Chat 50
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When I am typing in a gnome terminal, any time I press a key that triggers a sound (e.g., hitting "backspace" when already at the beginning of the command line, hitting "tab" for tab completion when there are multiple possible completion options), the key gets stuck on repeat. The sound plays over and over. If I move the mouse to other windows and focus on them, the repeated key continues there. (I have focus-follows-mouse enabled, if that matters.) This is 100% reproducible. But I have tracked it down to only occuring when I go into Settings->Sounds, select the "Output" tab, and choose the "Analog Output - Chat 50" device for sound output. I do have a ClearOne Chat 50 plugged into my computer via USB. It seems to be operating correctly for both input and output sound (ignoring the key repeat issue). Before figuring out that changing the sound output to be something other than the Chat 50, I ruled out the keyboard being the problem by swapping in a different model of USB keyboard. I also rebooted the system, and that made no difference either. I saw other bugs about repeating keys, such as bug #124406. I did try disabling repeat with "xset r off". This seems to stop the repeated key from taking effect in, say, Gnome terminal. But the repeating key is probably still being issued somewhere in the system because when I then trigger the bug the keyboard becomes unusable until I unplug it and plug it back in again. In all cases, unplugging the USB keyboard and plugging it back in again eliminates the stuck repeating key. I apologize for not selecting a particular package for this bug. This bug does only seem to occur when the ClearOne Chat 50 is selected as the output sound device, but I'm completely unclear about how an output sound device could case key presses to operate incorrectly. I does not seem like the sound device should be able to cause a keypress to repeat even if the sound driver is buggy. Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS. [Bug 1873093] [NEW] Gnome-terminal tab bar steals keyboard focus
Public bug reported: I'm not sure when it started, but using the version of Gnome-Terminal in latest ubuntu (GT 3.34.2), I regularly find the tab bar stealing keyboard focus. This is dangerous. The problem is usually that I click on a tab, leave the mouse there, and start typing. The tab bar then steals the first character typed. Sometimes I click in the terminal window, and then move the mouse out of the way (to the tab bar). Sometimes it happens later, when the mouse drifts onto a tab (maybe I knock it slightly while typing). There are many cases in which the unexpected loss of a character typed could lead to significant damage. For example, rm *~ losing the tilde. Or sudo rm -rf /mnt/1/* losing the 1. I have preferred click to focus (as opposed to focus-follows-mouse) in X for nearly 30 years. Gnome-Terminal should not pervert this preference. Reported upstream - https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- terminal/-/issues/245 Not clear that this is 100% a bug with gnome-terminal, or whether it is an interaction between it and another part of the XWayland/gnome/gnome- shell setup. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 1872527] Re: Clipboard doesn't work 100% of the time in Ubuntu 20.04 (in KVM guests)
It sort of sounds like there is a race condition going on in the consumption of the key sequence. I don't want to guess exactly what the problem is in this particular case, but just as general X info (which you probably already know...): Keyboard input is processed through several levels... hardware, kernel, X server, input manager, window manager, and applications. And virtualization adds another layer in there too. Each layer does some translation, such as from hardware key events into key id's, id's translated into language-specific key symbols, key symbols like [ctrl, v] into key combos/sequences like ^v, sequences into commands like "paste", etc. At any of these layers, an input event can be "consumed", making it not available to other things later in the layers. Comment #2 in particular seems to do a good job of narrowing where the issue occurs. Using screenkey to verify the key events are reaching the guest rules out hardware layer through virtualization. Reproducing the bug in GNOME as well as KDE seems to rule out window manager. So... my guess would be to look at what applications (or services) might also be trying to consume the key sequence. GNOME (and KDE) coordinate the key handling by applications, so that would be a first thing to check. Is it also possible there is a non-GTK /non-Qt service, process, or app that is skipping that (X can be a bit overly permissive...) A couple tools that can be useful for probing/debugging keyboard handling issues are `xev` and `xdotool`. The former shows you debug information as you hit keys, the latter lets you synthetically create them. For example: xdotool mousedown --clearmodifiers 2 xdotool mouseup 2 xdotool keyup alt xdotool keyup ctrl xdotool keyup shift xev should be pretty self explanatory. On a different note... You probably already know about Linux's primary and secondary clipboards. Sometimes confusion derives from things getting copied to the other clipboard than intended, which can be tested. Other times it seems some app gets a lock on one clipboard or puts it into some sort of mode so nothing can copy into it; you may run into this with firefox or other non-GNOME/non-KDE apps used in a GNOME or KDE environment. So, see if you can rule out whether the problem can be localized to the handling of the key events, or if it is specific to the copying, or the pasting behavior. And examine what processes are running, and in particular note any non-KDE/non-GNOME things that may be inserting themselves. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872527 Title: Clipboard doesn't work 100% of the time in Ubuntu 20.04 (in KVM guests) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1872527/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1872434] Re: Utilities folder labeled as "X-GNOME-Utilities.directory" on Ubuntu 20.04
To give more info about this regression: The issue was caused by this commit that does not appear to be mentioned in the gnome-shell package changelog, but was manually cherry picked in Debian/Ubuntu because it is not present in the released gnome-shell 3.36.1: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- shell/-/commit/8dd9cbac7f48089b89d63e05f5ccfa18d8940c0a The correct solution is to revert the downstream patch that caused the regression and replace it by a patch made from this commit: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- shell/-/commit/35a3320851634015dae2e5a613dcc0a0edbc6d2c -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872434 Title: Utilities folder labeled as "X-GNOME-Utilities.directory" on Ubuntu 20.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1872434/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

In my case (with Kubuntu 20.04) I can't even have the virt-manager window opened since it's messing up with the host clipboard (KDE Plasma clipboard). [Bug 1872968] [NEW] dash to dock settings fail because gnome-shell-extension-prefs is not installed, but even installing doesn't fix it.
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 20.04 daily build 20.04.14 Steps to reproduce: Right click in the bottom left corner of the screen (on the nine dots). Choose Dash to Dock Settings. You will get a warning that gnome-shell-extension-prefs is not installed. Install it in a terminal window (apt install gnome-shell-extension-prefs). Then right click on the nine dots again, choose Dash to Dock Settings. You then get a window titled Ubuntu Dock, with the following error message: Something's gone wrong. We're very sorry, but there's been a problem: the settings for this extension can't be displayed. We recommend that you report the issue to the extension authors.
