[Bug 1875125] Re: moving files from desktop to a nautilus window does nothing

2020-04-25 Thread dundir
After grokking the gnome documentation and poking around the filesystem
some more, there appears to be an undocumented way to disable the
desktop-icons extension to fix the workaround.

In /usr/share/gnome-shell/modes/ there is a json file ubuntu.json. It
has a list of enabled extensions one of which is the desktop-icons
extension. It looks like this:

{
"parentMode": "user",
"stylesheetName": "Yaru/gnome-shell.css",
"themeResourceName": "theme/Yaru/gnome-shell-theme.gresource",
"debugFlags": ["backtrace-crashes-all"],
"enabledExtensions": ["ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com",
"ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com", "desktop-icons@csoriano"]
}

Editing ubuntu.json and removing the entry and extra comma for desktop-icons
allows nemo to provide desktop icons and drag/drop functionality that was
previously non-functional.

[Bug 1875125] Re: moving files from desktop to a nautilus window does nothing

2020-04-25 Thread dundir
In addition to this bug, as an FYI to save time; the previous workaround
many people follow is installing nemo and setting it as the default for
desktop icons. This no longer works.

"gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons false",
is ignored.

The desktop icon functionality seems to now to be included in what are
called mode extensions which a user cannot disable easily. No dconf key
value is exposed for disabling desktop icons. It seems gnome-session
needs to be installed and then extensions built up from there without
desktop-icons as referenced.

https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/no-desktop-icons-already-arrived-in-19-04/9295/29
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/merge_requests/1

To clean up some of the mess one can do:

gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.desktop-icons

for the values "show-trash", and "show-home" which will remove some of
the clutter if one has installed nemo as a workaround; but files are
still shown (but not interactable) with no simple way of disabling it.

[Bug 1875124] [NEW] Lock screen hangs after entering password

2020-04-25 Thread dundir
Public bug reported:

Running the newest release of ubuntu (20.04LTS).

I entered my password to log in after the lock screen had engaged
automatically and it accepted my password (greying out the buttons) but
didn't log in.

Five minutes later it still hadn't changed so I went to another TTY and
killed the gnome-terminal process. X started up again, and allowed me to
log in with no issues after that.

Intentionally locking the screen did not trigger the bug.

This could be a serious problem for anyone not already familiar with
linux as this would force a reboot.

[Bug 1861631] Re: "The AppStream system cache was updated, but some components were ignored. Refer to the verbose log for more information."

2020-04-25 Thread Naël
Hi Jonathan and Dan:

> I don't think either apt nor snap auto-updates will handle this.

I don't think so either, and nor will manual snap updates ("snap
refresh" command).

My assumption is that deb-to-snap and snap-to-deb transitions are
limited to development releases. It would be very surprising to have
such transitions happen once a release is out, wouldn't it? But then
again I don't know.

Canonical's Marcus Tomlinson, who implemented the special deb-to-snap
/snap-to-deb logic in update-manager to fix bug 1868409 and bug 1872958,
could tell us more, and let us know if we now need to do more than run
apt to keep our systems up-to-date. But I'm not sure how to contact him
or his team. This bug, or Launchpad in general, don't seem like the
right place, as it's not a bug. Perhaps a mailing list (which one?), the
Freenode IRC network (which channel?), Ubuntu Discourse or Ask Ubuntu
are better places for this question.

down the screen and choose wayland.
If you use nvidia graphic card , you won't have wayland choice :( except if you

I'm using ubuntu gnomeshell 20.04, and libreoffice everyday during several

No way to copy/paste without problem.
Especially in writer using the math module.

It seems the ubuntu mate doesn't reproduce the problem.

[Bug 1857383] Re: Fractional scaling does not work anymore

2020-04-25 Thread Greg Cavazos
I also see the fractional increments and can select any, but only the
100 & 200 work correctly, the others change something but it doesn't
scale properly.

Probably expected, I tried record the transitions using screen recorder,
it worked changing 200% to 100%, then when I select 125 the video gets
scrambled, and seems to be getting worse as I switch to another until I
get to 200.

Sound works correctly using the internal speakers. If you plug in analog
headphones to the 3.5mm jack, there is no sound from the headphones or
the internal speakers. All relevant options are unmuted in Sound
Settings. The Speaker Test exhibits the same behaviour.

Analog headphones worked correctly on this system under 18.04.

Ubuntu version: focal dev
Kernel version: 5.4.0-14-generic #17-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 6 22:47:59 UTC 2020
Pulseaudio: 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu1
Device CID: 201704-25503

Steps to reproduce:

1. Connect an audio interface. I tried with BT headphones and speakers as well
as a USB microphone/output.
2. Make sure it's the one selected as "Output device"
3. Click "Test"
-> the test sound outputs from the internal laptop speakers (NOK)
4. Select "Speakers - Built-in Audio" as Output device and click "Test"
-> the test sound outputs from the internal laptop speakers (OK)
5. Try to switch back to the BT device and click Test
-> same result as in step 3

Tested with 2 different BT devices (one headset and one speaker) as
well as a USB audio interface (Zoom H2N microphone).

Attached are btmon logs captured during the procedure described above,
and pactl logs capture after step 7.

I was previously using 19.04 and 19.10 on this device and never
experienced this kind of issue.

Up to this morning, it was harder to connect the BT device, but once
connected, the sound would output on it as expected. Now, the BT
connection seems to work better, but I can't output the sound to the
BT device...

I tried to reboot the device, and also to suspend/resume, but in each
case, the BT device can connect back, but the sound is still output
from the internal laptop speakers, even when the BT device is selected
in the Sound settings.

[Bug 1532421] Re: nautilus doesn't display progress bar when formatting SD Card device

2020-04-25 Thread WHK
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1793152 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1793152

4 years later and 2 lts versions later, we still do not have a simple
progress to format a disk, I have been formatting a 1tb disk for 5 hours
and I must guess when it will be ready. Then they complain about why
Windows has more users than Linux if they ignore such basic things as
this or put a brightness selector on the screen in desktop mode.

2020-04-25 Thread gales
This has not been fixed in the final release of ubuntu 20.04. Even after
applying every update.

Will only search within recent files.

Language: English (United States)
Formats: España = Spain
Input sources: Spanish

Trying to change my format to english US won't fix it btw.

[Bug 1874835] Re: gdm3 hangs after entering password with automounting network share

2020-04-25 Thread spi
I'd like to but there is an issue with apport-collect.

apport-collect 1874835 throws an error "ERROR: The python3-launchpadlib
package is not installed. This functionality is not available." But it
is installed:

apport2.20.9-0ubuntu7.14
apport-gtk2.20.9-0ubuntu7.14
apport-symptoms 0.20
python3-apport2.20.9-0ubuntu7.14
python3-launchpadlib 1.10.6-1
python3-problem-report2.20.9-0ubuntu7.14

"python3 -c 'import apport'" shows no error.

Am I missing something?

[Bug 1871913] Re: super key does not work with secondary keyboard layout

2020-04-25 Thread Tomas Kral
Super key works only for default input layout. When you go to Settings
-> Region and Language -> Input sources, the super key will work only
for first input layout. When you change position of them the bug with
super key switch to second layouts and vice versa.

Possibly could be related to this issue in upstream:

[Bug 1874972] [NEW] Nautilus search in file names shows results from full text search

2020-04-25 Thread Andreas Tsourouflis
Public bug reported:

Nautilus full text search works fine. However, a search in file names
brings the same results as in full text search. The only difference is
that, in the file name mode, no text is shown beside the file name.
