Seems they've closed that bug, blaming it on the nvidia driver?

[Bug 1876532] Re: Badly positioned icons in the app grid

2020-05-02 Thread Douglas Silva
An observation about how to reproduce this bug:

As soon as you click the "Show Applications" button on the dock, move
your mouse to the target position of any of the icons before the sliding
animation is over. This will usually trigger the glitch.

Keeping the cursor still after you click that button is one way to avoid
reproducing it.

[Bug 1876532] [NEW] Badly positioned icons in the app grid

2020-05-02 Thread Douglas Silva
Public bug reported:

This bug is best explained with images. I've attached two screenshots
showing what the app grid looks like right after it's opened. A gif has
also been recorded to show a glitch in the animation as the icons slide
in.

This is not reproducible in Fedora 32 with GNOME 3.36 on the same
machine.

I will be testing the Wayland session shortly and report back.

seems to be a really bad situation. In Trello if you delete everything

[Bug 1876508] [NEW] Fractional scaling crashes X11 session in KVM based virtual machines

2020-05-02 Thread Primož Ajdišek
Public bug reported:

In focal release of Ubuntu proper (GNOME Desktop) i was going trought the
release on livestream using KVM based VM(libvirtd and virt-manager using
default video settings provided by virt-manager, Host is ubuntu mate 20.04) and
one of the things i was trying to show was fractional scaling which made my X11
session unusable. Screen turned black. Tryed different settings in Virt-manager
for Video non worked.
Resolved the issue by switching to wayland session within which fractional
scaling worked and i could disable it/switch to 100%.
When i after that switched to X11 session scaling was back to normal.

SideNote: when switching scaling in a VM i was running resolution was
reseting back to normal.

https://youtu.be/0EFEGafZXDE?t=3400 link to the recording of a
livestream on youtube with timecode enabled. (Video name: checking out
Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, Channel: bigpod, timecode: 56:40)

Edit: Additinal information, Can confirm this happening on stock ubuntu
installed on my system on top of ubuntu mate 20.04 . Setting selected 150%
1920x1080 resolution. additionaly it appears that it only affects single
monitor setups becasue this didnt happen on dual monitor system until i set
gnome to mirror on both displays.

The funny thing is that the new user's uid is 500:

I did reboot before trying. Nothing changed with gnome-control-center.

I used "usermod" to change the uid.
Then I used "find / -user 501 -exec chown -h kms {} \;" to change any other
files in the filesystem.

[Bug 1873403] Re: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values

2020-05-02 Thread Trickser
I want to add something here: I'm using the xrandr scale setting since
19.04 as fractional scaling has never worked on Ubuntu and X11. In the
last versions the monitor settings weren't stored.

In my experience when setting the display resolutions / scaling with
xrandr, my NVIDIA card would always black out when I tried to change
anything after setting the initial xrandr command. Either through xrandr
or the display settings. It is also impossible to disconnect a monitor
after setting the scaling, as the card would then black out too.

Restarting the Gnome Server always helps in those cases.

Here's my current script at startup, when setting the 200% scaling in the
settings:
```
SCALE=1.25
POSITION=4800
xrandr --output DP-4 --primary --pos "0x0" --scale "$SCALE"x"$SCALE" --output
DP-0 --scale "$SCALE"x"$SCALE" --auto --pos "$POSITION"x0
```

Not via the GUI, since it's not aware of users with id < 1000.

One option is to add a new admin user from command line:

sudo adduser kms2
sudo adduser kms2 sudo

Did you edit /etc/passwd manually? If so you probably need to reboot for
the change to be effective everywhere. But be careful! It may be a good
idea to first create a new admin user from command line as I just
showed.

That's most likely the explanation. Ubuntu and GNOME expect the user id
of a regular user to be 1000 or above. So if you change the id, your
user will show up in Settings.

[Bug 1876471] [NEW] Trash desktop icon is not translated

2020-05-02 Thread Duke
Public bug reported:

1) Release: Ubuntu 20.04

2) Package version: gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons 20.04.0-1

3) Expected behaviour
The name of the trash icon should be in the language of the current user.

4) Actual behaviour
The trash icon on the desktop is always named "Trash". It would be better if
the name of this icon were translated, using the same name as elsewhere (e.g.
inside Gnome Files). For example: "Corbeille" if the current user's language is
French, "Prullenbak" if the language is Dutch...

[Bug 1873403] Re: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values

2020-05-02 Thread Stephan Pearce
I have 2 monitors and one HDTV being used as a monitor. Everything was
fine on Pop OS 19. I upgraded to Pop OS 20 (which I assumed bumped me to
the latest Ubuntu) and now I'm having fractional scaling issues.

Left monitor = 1080p monitor in portrait mode
Middle HDTV = 4k HDTV in landscape mode
Right monitor = 1080p monitor in portrait mode

I can see fractional scaling in my options, but if I choose 125, 150, or
175%, it will only do 200%. And, it won't let me change it on one
display. It only applies universally.

Until this is fixed, my main monitor (HDTV) is frustrating to use with
font so small.

Also, I have to adjust the scaling in my Nvidia settings anytime I make
any change because it makes the scaling of the middle monitor way too
big. So, then the desktop actually "scrolls" until I manually fix the
scaling. I have a GeForce 1080.

[Bug 1869572] [NEW] Dock icons are shown very slow

2020-05-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I open a new app (e.g a terminal window) in the dock does not
appear nothing for about 15 seconds, when the icon of the terminal
appears. It is incredibly annoying since I work open and closing apps
and don't know where they are since the dock is updated every 15 seconds

[Bug 1876286] Re: Evolution reports "Error performing TLS handshake: Internal error in memory allocation."

2020-05-02 Thread Rod Rivers
I haven't been able to get the pop3 debug logging to work. Maybe one of
the developers could try to add another account with a pop connection to
verizon from a fully patched 18.04 machine? The verizon.net settings
are:

Server: pop.verizon.net
Port: 995

Encryption method: TLS on a dedicated port

Authentication: password

The Evolution wiki has instructions on debugging the mail backends. I tried to
follow the instructions for pop3 but the logfile created had a length of 0. I
tried to cut and paste from the wiki into a terminal to make sure there aren't
any typos but had the same result. I noticed later on that page there is an
all option. That worked but the entries were mostly imapx or DB. I couldn't
find any pop logs or anything with TLS. Here is the link to the directions:
https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Evolution/Debugging

Wireshark shows a TLS connection made to pop.verizon.net (66.218.85.35).
I can see the server cert chain. Towards the end of the connection
there is a small amount of data returned by the server to which the
client responds with a reset.

Let me know if there are any other logs I can collect, anything else to
try on my end or if there is any other information you need to duplicate
the issue.

[Bug 1824874] Re: undismissable, unclickable authentication dialog left on screen (top-left corner) after policykit authentication [pushModal: invocation of begin_modal failed]

2020-05-02 Thread Julien Gabel
Same here with a fresh Ubuntu 20.04 LTS on a laptop (Lenovo Y50). Pressing
Alt+F2, typing "r", and pressing enter helps as noted before when this appear.
The only thing related to elevated privileges I can think of is using admin:///
in nautilus.
The problem generally appears after coming back from suspended to resumed state.

[Bug 1876431] [NEW] windows invisible when there should have been a lock screen

2020-05-02 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

Shortly after upgrading to focal (a few days) I left my computer alone
and went and away for a good long while, long enough for the screen to
lock

Came back and
1) the screen was not locked,
2) the dock at the right hand side was still available and i could manipulate
it (ie click on the applications that were running, see the screenshots of them
when i mouse'd over them)
2) no windows could be seen.

I managed to for example click on the running bitcoin icon in the top right
hand corner, those were clickable too, but nothing did seemed to get the
windows back.
Alt-tab...
alt-crl up...
super-tab...
nothing i could think of

Wound up exiting out to terminal (ctrl-alt-f3, logging in) killing
gnome-shell and they all came back shortly there after.

[Bug 1876281] Re: 20.4 - ssh/sftp - bookmark not working

2020-05-02 Thread frank
ok, after reboot i got again the not-mounted-error (umount seems not
enough)...only in top-menu (gnome-flashback, have not found similar
access in default ubuntu gnome-session), can mount via bookmark inside
nautilus (also in flashback). looks more like a gnome-flashback-issue,
can this be changed?

i have this in .config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks:

sftp://192.168.0.10/home/frank 192.168.0.10
sftp://r2/home/frank r2

both bring same error (not mounted after boot and now also after umount
in nautilus, not able to get the .service error), "r2" is hostname
defined in .ssh/config pointing to same remote device

HOST r2
  HostName 192.168.0.10
  Port 22
  User frank
  IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa
