[Bug 1878351] Re: System shutdown directly by pressing power button and releasing immediately on Dell Vostro 5301

2020-06-14 Thread Kai-Chuan Hsieh
I propose two commit to upstream:

1. shutdown without asking if and only if the logout mode has switched to force.
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-session/-/merge_requests/46
Rejected by the maintainer, since the implementation is too aggressive, and he
thinks it is an workaround.

2. add 1s debounce for handling power key event
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings-daemon/-/merge_requests/180
The 1s value was provided by ODM experiment, maintainer has not reviewed yet.

Both commit can eliminate the original issue, but @khfeng found that the
intel-hid wrongly handle the power button event for very long time since
bionic, and he'd like to wait Intel's input.

Currently, I have no idea which approach I should go for.

Well, GNOME integrates IBus, and is supposed to suppress related UI
components in favor of equivalent Settings controls, so adding gnome-
shell as additional affecting package for now.

This bug can be closed. Once I identify the extension causing the CPU load I'll

[Bug 1882880] Re: FP Auth enroll screen issue: Max limit not defined

2020-06-14 Thread PRASAD HEGDE
Hi Sebastian
yes you are right. We can club this issue in the bug #1882878. The reason I did
put it out separately is because I did not want to miss out this issue.

In windows the GUI doesn't have any options like what we have here like
each finger is displayed in the GUI for enrollment.

Windows internally keeps counts of how many fingers are enrolled.

If 10 fingers are enrolled then it will shoot an error saying maximum
limit is reached.

Here in linux GUI what we can do is we can only display the remaining
fingers to be enrolled as active and already enrolled fingers can be
grayed out in GUI.

Thanks
Prasad

[Bug 1882878] Re: The user panel let you enroll the same finger several times

2020-06-14 Thread PRASAD HEGDE
Hi Sebastian,

I am just referring s per windows implementation here. So the user may
try to enroll the same finger several times and since the templates are
stored in device(Not the host) it may run out of memory. Hence this
duplicate check is necessary for those devices which stores the
templates in device memory itself.

The other thing is you need to provide an API in the libfprint to do the
duplicate check when enrolling a new finger. So this command goes to the
device all through and device itself sees whether the finger is already
enrolled or not. Depending on this output further enrollment process can
be continued or a warning message can be displayed(As in windows).

You can refer the windows WBF API's for the same.

as examples. But it's not a performance problem. CPU and RAM usage stay
low during this lag. I'm a noob, sry for my eventually bad description.

[Bug 1883334] [NEW] Xorg freezes after Lock (win+L or via Menu>Lock)

2020-06-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This started to happen after installing the last update last week. If I
lock the screen (using either Win+L or opening the menu and clicking
Lock) the screen turns to black and it doesn't come back anymore. I know
the system is still operational since the NumLock button still responds
(turns on and off If I press it) and the HotSpot still works on my
phone, but the screen just doesn't come back from black. This wasn't an
issue before the update, it is very recent. Thank you very much!

[Bug 1882462] Re: Displays wake up pre-maturely (likely driven by notification)

2020-06-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The only possibly-related information I can see there is:

Jun 12 06:17:30 hero boltd[7027]: power: setting force_power to ON
  Jun 12 06:17:30 hero boltd[7027]: power: state changed: supported/on
Jun 12 06:17:30 hero boltd[7027]: power: guard '3' for 'fwupd' active

which may be relevant because DisplayPort and Thunderbolt are the same
bus, at least for Intel GPUs. So a few more ideas to try:

  1. Disable fwupd, with something like:

 sudo systemctl stop fwupd.service
 sudo systemctl disble fwupd.service

  2. Disable Night Light. There have been some bug reports, and
suggestions from upstream, that gnome-settings-daemon managing the
colour profile separately to the power state is causing some confused
states.

  3. If all else fails, report the issue upstream:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues

[Bug 1882353] Re: Ubuntu Dock and Top bar accessible from lockscreen

2020-06-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
You can use the 'gsettings' command to clear that:

  gsettings set org.gnome.shell enabled-extensions "[]"

And don't be concerned about the default extensions not showing up
there. They are not meant to. Default (system) extensions are considered
implied. If you want to see everything more clearly then use:

  gnome-shell-extension-prefs

That all said, extensions don't sound like the problem with this bug...

[Bug 1882291] Re: Gnome Shell clock is truncated/corrupt on the right side

2020-06-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It's a small rendering glitch which doesn't happen reliably or on
demand.

The problem occurs when the width of the digital clock shrinks depending
on the font width like:

  12:30 -> 12:31

But I have struggled to reproduce it when I want to.

[Bug 1752680] Re: Night light does not work after resume from suspend or unlock.

2020-06-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sounds like a different bug, maybe? This bug looks more like night light
going off when it should be on.

Though I also notice the upstream developers are planning on moving the
functionality out of gnome-settings-daemon and into mutter, which makes
sense to me... The problem right now is that everything about monitors
is managed by mutter _except_ for colour profiles (which I assume
includes night light). So it may become confused as those multiple
separate processes try to manage the same display hardware. gnome-
settings-daemon sets a colour profile or night light, and then mutter
turns the screen off and on according to power management. So the former
colour profile setting might get forgotten.

I cannot reproduce this issue on the latest Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS (

with rhythmbox. I tried with and without crossfade.

If this issue is still reproducible, please provide the following
information:

1. Mention the station URL.

2. Is this with or without crossfade feature ?

3. Try to open rhythmbox in terminal as below

$ rhythmbox -d &> ~/rhythmbox.log

start playing the radio station and when the error shows up, close
rhythmbox and attach the rhythmbox.log file in the bug report.

[Bug 1883457] [NEW] Thumbnails for .xcf files only show in Gimp ( snap ) and nowhere else.

2020-06-14 Thread Coeur Noir
Public bug reported:

Hi,

On Ubuntu ( Budgie ) 20.04 when using Gimp as a snap, you’ll see
thumbnails for .xcf files only « inside » Gimp and nowhere else ( Nemo,
Nautilus, gThumb… )

I did a messy workaround for .xcf thumbnails to appear anywhere expected
: I put all of my user’s thumbnails into
~/snap/gimp/common/.cache/thumbnails/ and now ~/.cache/thumbnails/ is a
symlink targeting the first.

You’d agree it’s absolutely a bad idea to store all of an user’s
thumbnails into a particular subfolder of a particular snap.

How tell my session to look for thumbnails not only in
~/.cache/thumbnails/ but also in any thumbnails folder inside ~/snap/ ?

+ Thumbnails for .xcf files only show in Gimp ( snap ) and nowhere else.

** Description changed:

[Bug 1790814] Re: Duplicate entries caused by debs and snaps offering the same application

2020-06-14 Thread Coeur Noir
It's a bug because app-store are used by less-techy user who then don't
notice what kind of package they have just installed. Or don't know why
they should prefer one over the other.

Then they wonder why their (un-noticed snap)app can't access such folder
or usb-thumbs …which is another problem.

That wouldn't matter if there were no differences in usage between a
.deb and a snap package ( or else ) but there are ( permissions, for
example ).

1. Add the packaging type to name of app
https://snapforum.s3.dualstack.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/original/2X/d/d3e2afef29ed6c82f7f639c45a9710412f196d9d.jpeg
and stop putting the legacy .deb package at the end. Its fair position is at
first or second in the list.

2. Only show one item for an app ( instead of one item by type of packaging )
and then give the choice of packaging type on the installation page
https://snapforum.s3.dualstack.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/original/2X/4/4492aa0ca29706dec898db61cddfe371b4c18685.jpeg
Better solution in my opinion.

[Bug 1883445] [NEW] de-confusing many items for one app

2020-06-14 Thread Coeur Noir
Public bug reported:

Hi,

When looking for an app' it's quite confusing it's listed twice ( or
more ), one on top of the list and one at end of the list.

I can think of 2 ways for ending confusion.

1. Add the packaging type to name of app
https://snapforum.s3.dualstack.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/original/2X/d/d3e2afef29ed6c82f7f639c45a9710412f196d9d.jpeg
and stop putting the legacy .deb package at the end. Its fair position is at
first or second in the list.

2. Only show one item for an app ( instead of one item by type of packaging )
and then give the choice of packaging type on the installation page
https://snapforum.s3.dualstack.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/original/2X/4/4492aa0ca29706dec898db61cddfe371b4c18685.jpeg
Better solution in my opinion.

This a mainly to avoid people installing without knowing the type of
package.

As it is today the package info is available too late and at the bottom
of the page.

[Bug 1874986] Re: App grid can't switch pages when using low resolutions such as 800x600

2020-06-14 Thread Marina
In this duplicate of the bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock/+bug/1876889

I found this temporary fix by Sebastien Bacher (seb128):

$ gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock extend-height
false

I does solve the problem, but the dock will only occupy part of the
screen. I can live with that for now.

[Bug 1759462] Re: Keyboard shortcuts not operational on 18.04

2020-06-14 Thread Gregory Kramida
My particular problem stemmed from reconfiguring python3 to point to
python3.7 instead of python3.6 via update-alternatives. Logging into
terminal-only mode (Ctrl + F3), setting update-alternatives to use the
system version of python3.6 again, and rebooting solved the issue.

[Bug 1883426] Re: Double Deb sources in Ubuntu Software

2020-06-14 Thread Balint Harmath
Once the description is understandable - since you can install a package on the
whole system, or only to a distinct user. This may effect the code you are
checking out.
However this shouldn't be recognisable to the user.
The user once have decided it in checkbox-style during the installation
process, the dependencies or the package installed are to be decided by the
installer - not by the user.

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-06-14 Thread Egor Rudkov
Affects me as well:
- Ubuntu 20.04
- Nvidia driver 440
- Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super
- 2 monitors: 2k and 1080p

I have a strange behaviour with this one. If I set my primary 2k display
scaled to 125% and position my second 1080p monitor on the right - it
works fine. But if I drag secondary monitor to the left from my primary
one, I get this bug and mirroring turns on instead of join.

[Bug 1752680] Re: Night light does not work after resume from suspend or unlock.

2020-06-14 Thread Marcin
I've related issue. I'm on Focal 20.04 LTS.

I did suspend my pc at night when night light was on,
Resumed (from suspend) next day in the afternoon when night light should be off
but it still has much more red temperature color than it should (night light is
on).

Event though I switch to disable night light nothing happens it still have too
much red.
After couple suspends and resumes night light is still on no matter if it's a
day or night.

It seems it only applies night light changes at time of planned toggle
night and day light.

@vanvugt - can it stay here or I should extract it to new bug?

[Bug 1790814] Re: Duplicate entries caused by debs and snaps offering the same application

2020-06-14 Thread Ads20000
Launchpad Bug Watch Updater translated 'Closed' in GitLab to mean 'Fix
Released' when it actually means 'Invalid' in this case. That would be a
bug with Launchpad Bug Watch Updater.

[Bug 1883415] [NEW] Net profile dialog too small

2020-06-14 Thread David Balažic
Public bug reported:

The New Profile dialog in the Network Settings is too small.
Not all options are visible.

It can not be resized.

Is there a reason to cram a GUI into a poststamp sized rectangle? I have
