[Bug 1892358] Re: autopkgtest success rate dropped inhibiting proposed migration
To match the open packages blocked on this in active releases I added linux-meta for BIonic (thanks Kleber for the hint) and Focal (Thanks Kelsey for the hint). I think all of those had enough of retry-until-success and I'd ask again for how we should proceed there. Masking/Resetting the test via an override would throw away so much other coverage, but lacking other feedback I'll at least proposed the change - maybe this also brings more attention to here. [Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.
I'd updated the debdiff to insert a DEP-3 header. Here is the new debdiff. ** Patch added: "gdm3_3.34.1-1ubuntu2.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1845801/+attachment/5406013/+files/gdm3_3.34.1-1ubuntu2.debdiff ** Attachment removed: "gdm3_3.34.1-1ubuntu2.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1845801/+attachment/5405700/+files/gdm3_3.34.1-1ubuntu2.debdiff ** Description changed: [ Impact ] In some platforms with specific Nvidia cards (with nvidia-driver-440), enable auto-login (either during installation or after installation) will fail (either stuck in gdm login screen and not able to login even typing correct password). [ Test Case ] Here are two scenario of auto login with groovy (20.10) daily build[1]: 1) Checked "Install third-party software" (e.g. nvidia-driver) with enabling "Login automatically" during installation. 2) Install groovy daily build with default options, after installation completed: 2.1) Install nvidia-driver-440 (450.57-0ubuntu2) from ubuntu-archive. 2.2) Enable "Login automatically" from system settings. Then reboot. [Expected result] System will boot into desktop environment without the login page. [Actual result] System boots to login page, and can't login to desktop environment with the correct password. [ Regression potential ] - Low, the patch comes from upstream[2] to use /dev/tty1 (instead of tty0) to prevent the auto-login user gets tty1. I did verified gdm3 from my PPA[3] and it works good. It passed the 30 times reboot stress test by using stress/reboot_30 from checkbox. + Medium, the patch comes from upstream[2] to use /dev/tty1 (instead of tty0) to prevent the auto-login user gets tty1. After boot, I'm shown the GDM login screen (which I shouldn't; I have auto login enabled), and logging in just takes me back to the same user selection screen even though the password is correct. If I switch to a TTY and run `sudo pkill gnome-session-binary`, logging in through GDM starts working again. I should add that the do-release-upgrade was rocky; I did it in a terminal from within gnome, went away for a while, and when I returned, I just saw an Ubuntu 19.10 in a TTY. I was able to do `sudo dpkg --configure -a` and complete the upgrade, but I don't know if something's still messed up due to that. [Bug 1892973] Re: gnome-session fails, and fails, and fails yet again
Thanks. This appears to be an Nvidia hardware or driver fault. Since this is the first time I've ever seen this (other Nvidia users don't seem to encounter the same issue) I would suggest the simplest solution would be to change the graphics card. Otherwise you will need to seek support from Nvidia themselves. [Bug 1893562] [NEW] Second equal USB card reader not detected
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS, gnome-disks 3.28.3. Two exactly equal USB card readers ( 05e3:0749 genesys logic ) are inserted, each containing a formatted SD card, each with a single partition. Both disk partitions are correctly assigned devices on insertion. Only whichever adapter is inserted first automounts (as checked by mount) and only that adapter is listed in Gnome Disks. Both partitions names are listed in the gnome Places menu. After mounting the second partition via the Places menu, still only the first adapter is listed in Gnome Disks. The error occurs with NTFS, FAT or ext4 SD card partitions. This should be pretty easy to track down, but I can run more tests if required. [Bug 1893555] [NEW] gnome-terminal wrapper doesn't wait for the process to exit
Public bug reported: [ Impact ] Gnome terminal has a wrapper to make it compatible with the x-terminal- emulator (i.e. generic xterm implementation), however, while the arguments mapping is correct, when launching `x-terminal-emulator` the control will return to the caller once the terminal has been dbus- activated. This is not expected by x-terminal-emulator, and so breaks the usage of the terminal as fallback when the X11 session failed on startup. [ Test case ] When gnome-terminal is set as x-terminal-emulator (ensure this with update-alternatives --query x-terminal-emulator), launch (from a terminal): x-terminal-emulator -geometry 80x24+0+0 A terminal emulator should open in the top-left corner, and it should stay open until you don't hit Ctrl+C from the launching terminal. [ Regression potential ] None known, possibly a failing launched X session could stay in black screen instead of returning back to gdm promptly. ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: Marco Trevisan (Treviño) (3v1n0) Status: In Progress ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Medium Assignee: Marco Trevisan (Treviño) (3v1n0) Status: In Progress ** Also affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu Focal) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu Focal) Assignee: (unassigned) => Marco Trevisan (Treviño) (3v1n0) ** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided => Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1893555 Title: gnome-terminal wrapper doesn't wait for the process to exit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1893555/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
