[Bug 1896102] Re: gnome-shell crashes together with emacs-gtk regularly

2020-09-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks, but emacs crashing is a different issue to gnome-shell crashing.
We can keep this bug open about any gnome-shell crashes but please
follow the steps in comment #2 again for that.

** Summary changed:

- gnome-shell crashes together with emacs-gtk regularly
+ gnome-shell crashes

** Description changed:

Regularly emacs-gtk crashes (reported separately in LP: #1896100) and
with it gnome-shell crashes as well. Since those two crashes happen at
the same time I am assuming that those two events are related. I don't
know what the causal relation is though.

[Bug 1862559] Re: ubuntu 19.10: unresponsive/freezes on ThunderX2 if system is idle for ~22min

2020-09-21 Thread dann frazier
I asked our desktop team about this, and Iain Lane mentioned that Ubuntu
overrides the GNOME default of auto-suspending, but that override only
takes effect if you have the ubuntu-settings package installed. I tested
this out on a Saber system, and I can confirm that it does seem to only
happen when gdm is installed/running and ubuntu-settings is *not*
installed. And that explains why I was unable to reproduce in Comment
#5. There I had installed ubuntu-desktop which would bring in ubuntu-
settings. It also explains why the CUDA-11 dependency chain *did* cause
the problem on the x86 server in Comment #8. In that case, gdm3 is
getting installed as a Recommends somewhere in the dependency chain -
but it does not pull in gnome-settings.

I'll therefore go ahead and close the 'linux' task as Invalid - this
isn't a kernel bug. I'll mark the gdm3 bug as "Won't Fix" because, in
theory, we could change the defaults inside of gdm3 itself - but we
instead recommend users install ubuntu-settings to override the
defaults.

the new testcase is different and is a valid html now (which the initial
report wasn't), using those commands here it returns 'text/html' as the
type though...

could you try with another user to see if that's due to some local
configuration?

[Bug 1876802] Re: Gnome (on Xorg) crashes when disconnecting external monitor

2020-09-21 Thread Gino Biondini
I am dealing with exactly the same issue: I am running Gnome on a fresh
install of Ubuntu 20.04 on a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 7th gen. I have
an external monitor (also a Lenovo), and when I connect it (through
USB-C), everything works fine. However, when I disconnect it, the
system freezes completely after a couple seconds, and I need to do a
hard reboot each time.

[Bug 1896334] Re: SRU 3.36.6

2020-09-21 Thread Treviño
** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]

That's the current GNOME stable update, including some fixes and translation
updates
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/commits/3.36.6

Since the theme side of the project in ubuntu is shipped via Yaru theme,
that project is included in the SRU.

The changes involving yaru here are ONLY gnome-shell upstream changes
applied to the Yaru sources, as per this we can consider them also part
  of the GNOME release.

+ The yaru-theme's `gnome-shell/upstream` directory is just for documentation
and
+ to allow three way merges when updating to new versions of gnome-shell,
+ and it is not used for generating the final packages at all
+
  [ Test case ]

The update is part of GNOME stable updates
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

GNOME Shell and its components should continue working

  [ Regression potential ]

There have been fixes in popup-grab handling, gdm view fixes, lockscreen
display changes in some hw, extensions updates

[Bug 1896405] Re: Cannot install libglib2.0-dev on ubuntu 20.04.1

2020-09-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher

something on it?

well you did at some point,

 ii libglib2.0-0:amd64 2.64.3-1~ubuntu20.04.1 amd64 GLib library of C
routines

that version isn't available in your sources, it comes from focal-
updates, so either you enabled the updates repository to install it or
did something else?

the issue is that libglib2.0-dev need to be a matching version but you
removed the source containing the version of glib you are based on, you
either need to enable focal-updates or reinstall the focal version of
libglib2.0-0 (apt install --reinstall libglib2.0-0/focal)

Re: [Bug 1896471] Re: trash no longer works after deleting files from usb device

2020-09-21 Thread wfeijen
What location do you try to open exactly, the 'trash:' one (using the
icon in the sidebar for example)? How does it fail to open, does it give
an error or just block?

I click the trash icon. Then the waiting wheel starts turning until I click
another item.

fair to underline that snaps using them have been tested successfully,
and no regression has been reported so far.

[Bug 1896475] [NEW] [FFe] Migrate to pipewire-0.3

2020-09-21 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

Various packages are now depending on pipewire-0.3 (or, in some cases
pipewire-0.2).

While this is not a main component for ubuntu (yet) we have various
projects depending on it, and some core components (actually mutter)
have a build-only-dependency on it.

Debian already completed this migration some weeks ago, while ubuntu
doesn't provide pipewire-0.3 yet and this can be blocking many
components to land in next cycle.

As per this, we thought that was wiser to anticipate the migration now
so that all the dependencies will be already in ubuntu at the beginning
of the next cycle, and we could start earlier the actual usage of
pipewire in the desktop for mutter (and other components such as the
xdg-portals).

All the packages have been prepared already in:
 https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/4265.1/+packages

You can refer to the diffs in https://bileto.ubuntu.com/#/ticket/4265 to
see the details of the changes.

  [ Impact ]

That's the current GNOME stable update, including some fixes and translation

+
+ Since the theme side of the project in ubuntu is shipped via Yaru theme,

+
+ The changes involving yaru here are ONLY gnome-shell upstream changes
+ applied to the Yaru sources, as per this we can consider them also part

  [ Test case ]

The update is part of GNOME stable updates
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

GNOME Shell and its components should continue working

  [ Regression potential ]

There have been fixes in popup-grab handling, gdm view fixes, lockscreen
display changes in some hw, extensions updates

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the
support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are
uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find help with your problem in
the support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/
or asking at https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org. For help

[Bug 1896471] [NEW] trash no longer works after deleting files from usb device

2020-09-21 Thread wfeijen
Public bug reported:

I have deleted files on a SD card. After I did that Ubuntu could not open the
trash folders. At that time I did not realize that the deleting was the cause
of my problems.
Trash folders did exist however and I could not find the cause of my problems.

Then I upgraded from 18 to 20.04 Trash was working fine again.

Until I deleted files on the SD card again. My ~/.local/share/Trash file
exists and has empty directories expunged, files and info but won't open
in Nautilus. There is also .Trash-1000 directory on the SD card with
the same empty directories.

[Bug 1896393] Re: gedit not responding to keystrokes

2020-09-21 Thread Cliff Carson
Only observed this delay using gedit. Other input programs (chrome,
libreoffice, thunderbird) do not have this delay. It doesn't occur on
every key stroke but as I'm editing some program source I see it
frequently. I've had the system monitor running and when I see the
delay checking the cpu activity doesn't show any spike around the time I
was typing.

[Bug 1896393] Re: gedit not responding to keystrokes

2020-09-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report. Is that specific to gedit or do you get
the same issue in other desktop softwares? Does it do it consistently or
only sometimes? Do you see cpu or resource usage when you get the dealy?

Could you add your ~/.config/mimeapps.list before and after changing the

I found what causes this issue. I set up umask to 137 in .profile file.
After commenting out this line and restart I can log in to system.

[Bug 1896440] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in __GI_raise()

2020-09-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. This looks like an assertion failure in
libst-1.0.so but retracing has failed so we can't see exactly what
happened.

Next time the problem happens, please:

1. Wait at least 5 seconds and then reboot.

2. Run this command in a terminal:

   journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

and then attach the resulting text file here.

Also, in case the same crash has already occurred multiple times, please
try these instructions:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment
