[Bug 1813441] Re: Can no longer drag and drop files between desktop and applications

2020-10-22 Thread Adam Niedling
How about Ubuntu is not asking any "are you sure" questions when I
delete (del or shift+del) something from the desktop?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

  apport-collect 1901017

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1901109] [NEW] Failed to detect screen is locked sometimes by dbus or loginctl utility when click Lock menu

2020-10-22 Thread chenyu
Public bug reported:

Affected version
ubuntu1804.4/20.04

Bug summary
Click Lock menu (especially click lock button very soon after login), the
screen is locked as expected. But in this case, there is no
org.gnome.ScreenSaver related dbus generated, and less way to report screen is
locked. Using dbus-monitor also couldn't be able to recevie the screenSaver
dbus message.

Steps to reproduce

Put attached test.sh under /tmp/test.sh
Put attached screen-status-monitor.desktop to
/etc/xdg/autostart/screen-status-monitor.desktop
Click Lock menu very quickly after login
Verify /tmp/result, the first "true/false" is to query dbus
org.gnome.screensaver.GetAcitve, the second is to query session lock status
from loginctl utility, they both indicate "unlocked" status.

What happened
the query result is "unlocked" status

What did you expect to happen
the query result is "locked" status

[Bug 1856179]

2020-10-22 Thread Nicholas
Hi Clinton,

I came across your discussion with the GNOME folks when looking for a
solution to do the same operation myself.

Unfortunately I don't think the script you were given would have worked,
all the ideas were there, it just needed some tweaking.

I've attached my version here in case you still need it and in case it's
useful to WINE as e.g. the base for a utility script that could be
shipped for users wanting the same functionality.

Cheers

[Bug 1900760] Re: gnome-shell very high %CPU usage while moving mouse on Ubuntu 20.04

2020-10-22 Thread Pavils Jurjans
Did that, now it's much better. Although I was deferring from system
updates, reluctant to restart, so this was not a clean test.

Moving mouse quickly still makes the Xorg process consume signifficant
CPU% (up to 25%), but gnome-shell doesn't get near to the level it used
to consume.

It's a weird combo, a bug related to Discord app and mouse movement
processing, causing the said CPU hog.

Thanks for the fix, I guess.

[Bug 1900906] Re: Can't input accents in GNOME shell

2020-10-22 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I can reproduce the issue on focal but not on groovy. I installed the
groovy version of the ibus binaries on focal, but the issue was still
present, so this seems not to be an ibus bug.

I can type ü with a German keyboard layout, so it seems to be about dead
keys rather than accented letters as such. Furthermore, I can't input
e.g. Chinese characters using IBus at all.

[Bug 1759715] Re: Remove steam and add to sync blacklist

2020-10-22 Thread Andrew Hayzen
I was planning on seeing if the situation could be improved in any way
over the coming weeks. Lets see if we can improve the package to either
by updating or in sync with debian (and then look at potential
SRU/backports) over this cycle before removing from the archive. As
there are currently still advantages to using the deb version from the
archive over the flatpak version and not everyone wants to install debs
from URLs that are not in the archive ...

I'll post if I make any progress over the coming weeks/months :-)

[Bug 1897185] Re: Laptop docked with lid closed, goes to sleep immediately on login

2020-10-22 Thread Tim Wetzel
Posted this detail upstream at Plymouth in hopes it may help:
So I did 3 things yesterday: I applied all Ubuntu Updates; turned the splash
screen back on; and reverted from the third-party nVidia drivers back to the
open source driver. Then rebooted. This was the first time in a month that I
was able to get past these problems. Today, with no further changes, the
suspend on login is back. As with the spinning logo, it occurs when laptops are
docked and running lid down with external HDMI display as primary along with
external keyboard and mouse. I hope that this may help in pinning these down?
Thank you.

[Bug 1901017] [NEW] Desktop gradually increases response lag to clicks in 20.04 (Fixed by Alt+F2, "r"))

2020-10-22 Thread XA Hydra
Public bug reported:

After a day or so of uptime, system will grow quite sluggish to respond
to mouse clicks. Clicking on an app in the dock with multiple windows
will lag up to 1 second, clicking different windows will do the same.
Curiously, right clicking on the desktop takes longer, sometimes over 2
seconds for the menu to appear. Clicking the Calendar/Notification area
and other areas of the shell yield the same issue.

Actual drawing performance does NOT seem to be affected, as browsing and
in-application clicking is still snappy. Highlighting icons by hovering
over the dock is also real-time.

This has reliably occurred after more than a day of uptime on multiple
occasions. My machine is a Ryzen 3600 with 32GB RAM and an NVIDIA 1050Ti
(Proprietary driver) No unusually high CPU usage is found, nor is there
anything that seems to be using very much RAM.

Using Alt+F2 and "r" to restart mutter instantly restores responsiveness

Current version of mutter is 3.36.6

[Bug 1896091] Re: [i915] Noise-like lines of graphics corruption when moving windows in Xorg sessions

2020-10-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I've got similar results. In fact I can't find any mainline kernel that
exhibits corruption. Only the newer groovy kernels do:

good 5.8.0-16-generic
bad 5.8.0-23-generic
bad 5.8.0-25-generic

good 5.8.1-050801-generic
good 5.8.13-050813-generic
good 5.8.16-050816-generic

good 5.9.0-050900drmtip20201022-generic

Are there any i915 parameters we should try?

To clarify "fixed-in-40" means it is fixed in the upstream mutter master
branch, which is version 40. There is no fix queued in the 3.38 series

It happened a lot more when docked (ext USB-C monitor) than on the
laptop itself.

Kernel 5.9.1 seems good so far. I've not seen the issue yet and my
uptime is 3 days 15 hours without any suspending in between, just screen
locked.

[Bug 1900984] [NEW] Multi-monitor window-snapping snaps to wrong display

2020-10-22 Thread Alan Pope  濾
Public bug reported:

Summary:

Snapping a window to one side of the screen will often snap to the side
of the wrong monitor.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Have two monitors arranged side by side
2. Open a new application window such as nautilus or a terminal
3a. Grab the right half of the title bar of the window and drag it to the left
side of the right monitor. Don't let go
or
3b. Grab the left half of the title bar of the window and drag it to the right
side of the left monitor. Don't let go
  - The orange window snapping guide will appear in the correct place
4. Let go of the mouse
  - The window will snap to the wrong monitor

It appears due to the amount of the window hanging over the separation
gap between the displays, it will favour snapping to the wrong monitor.

I noticed the same bug in mutter 40, then tried to bisect it and found
the same in mutter 3.36. So yeah this appears to be a new kernel (or
Mesa) bug. It doesn't seem to happen much if at all if you run gnome-
shell. Only in mutter for me.
