[Bug 1913453] Re: gnome-shell freeze

2021-03-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Is there a reason you use the word "crash"? If there is any evidence of
a crash then please clarify where it is. It might be helpful to check
for crashes using these instructions:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

Certainly there's a lot of freezing I can see in your log. Some of it
looks like old bug 1867639 and bug 1824855 (which are closed). Please
try uninstalling fingerprint support with:

  sudo apt remove fprintd

then reboot and tell us if the problem reoccurs.

[Bug 1912246] Re: [nvidia] gnome-shell freezes randomly after upgrading to groovy

2021-03-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Since you said in comment #18 when it happened again, and your log shows
upstream issue mutter#1516 happened around that time, I am going to
assume that's the problem and will link it to
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/1516

However, to be sure we're not looking at the wrong problem, please next
time:

1. Confirm the exact time of day the problem occurred; and

[Bug 1887652] Re: Wayland not available with proprietary Nvidia drivers even when nvidia-drm.modeset=1 is set

2021-03-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The rule to disable Wayland support on Nvidia is important right now,
because it prevents bug 1705369 which hurt a lot of users. Although I
have made an attempt to fix that properly (comment #3), upstream did not
like it and currently prefers using 61-gdm.rules.

I'm hopeful a magical solution to this issue will appear in driver
version 470 but have no evidence to support that. More likely I think I
will need to revisit or patch

please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-groovy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)

match what was copied. If I then try to paste in another application,

I have to copy / paste the same content several times before the right
content finally gets pasted to Firefox.

[Bug 1912246] Re: [nvidia] gnome-shell freezes randomly after upgrading to groovy

2021-03-02 Thread Ian Johnson
Hey so sorry I missed that you wanted me to run those commands before,
but it happened again this morning and here are the requested logs and
lspci output. Note that I stripped out all the messages from snapd since
I have debug mode enabled and it's extremely noisy, but if you think
snapd could be at all at fault here I would love to know how and can
share more info about that :-D
