[Bug 1926816] [NEW] Computer does not shut down
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 21.04, when I shut down, my laptop never actually shuts down. I see a black screen, the laptop stays on, and the fans spin up. The computer will stay in this state all night. I then have to press and hold the power button to shut down the device. I am using the default kernel, 5.11.0-16-generic. I am also using the Nvidia driver (nvidia-driver-460, version 460.73.01-0ubuntu1) with XOrg. This was not an issue for prior releases of Ubuntu on this machine. For example, Ubuntu 20.04 does not have this problem. I see the following messages in the journalctl log (attached) for gdm.service, which I think may be contributing to this issue: gdm.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE gdm.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'. Stopped GNOME Display Manager. gdm.service: Triggering OnFailure= dependencies. Requested transaction contradicts existing jobs: Transaction for plymouth-quit.service/start is destructive (umount.target has 'start' job queued, but 'stop' is included in transaction). gdm.service: Failed to enqueue OnFailure= job, ignoring: Transaction for plymouth-quit.service/start is destructive (umount.target has 'start' job queued, but 'stop' is included in transaction).
