[Bug 1964851] [NEW] Ubuntu 22.04 (dev-branch) shutdown/reboot hangs
Public bug reported: I have a desktop with MSI-Z690 motherboard and installed Dual boot Windows 11 on SSD and Ubuntu 22.04 dev-branch on HDD (upgraded from 20.04 LTS and this issue exists on 20.04 also) I choose Ubuntu at the first priority boot and Windows 11 is in Ubuntu bootloader. The Windows works fine. But when I power-off Ubuntu, it hangs, and I have to hold the power button for about 5 seconds to shut it down. I set grub to `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=""` and the last line of log is `reached target system power off` and it will stuck seems forever(I have once waited for 120 mins) By the way, I have another laptop and have a dual-boot on same SSD, everything works fine. So I am not sure if it is a HDD-related issue. How to set my Ubuntu to the really normal behavior? Re: [Bug 1964542] Re: [nvidia] One monitor remains black on startup or resume from sleep
Thank you very much for your help. It is the LG on Displayport or Hdmi that stays black. I have noticed that when in a dual monitor there is a VGA port connected it is always the VGA port that is recognized in both Linux and Window; I think that this is the characteristic of the X86 architecture. [Bug 1964682] Re: IBus not starting properly at login to wayland with gnome-shell 42
Yeah, I too think it looks like bug fixes only. But there is a problem: Salsa's pipeline shows a build failure: https://salsa.debian.org/debian/ibus/-/pipelines/358170 But since I already had built successfully in a jammy PPA: https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/ibus/+packages and also built successfully locally on Debian testing, I decided to take a chance and uploaded anyway. Proved to not be very wise: https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=ibus I will need some help to figure out what the problem is. (There is of course the option to upload it directly to Ubuntu as -0ubuntu1 for now. But I feel it would be safer to make the build succeed on Debian first so the Debian side gets involved.) ** Changed in: ibus (Ubuntu) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1964682 Title: IBus not starting properly at login to wayland with gnome-shell 42 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1964682/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1964732] Re: [FFe] Include Desktop Icons Appearance Settings
** Description changed: In Jammy the default desktop extension is providing lots settings in a non very integrated way, accessible from right-click: https://i.imgur.com/boMhCrH.png We got a community contribution (https://gitlab.gnome.org/Community/Ubuntu/gnome-control- center/-/merge_requests/9) to move the most relevant (for ubuntu) settings into the ubuntu "appearance" panel in gnome-control-center so that we can explicitly only support a restricted number of options that we care about, while all the rest can be tuned when using the ding options manually or tools such as d-conf editor. The appearance options will include these new widgets: https://i.imgur.com/Cup75om.png This is the code involved: - https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gnome-control-center/-/commit/3f7c10501b1ac28311dd9edb64e64bfbbcd67204 + Plus we need to change DING code to call `gnome-settings-daemon ubuntu` + on desktop context menu. + Not sure this is fully a FFe request, given that from the global desktop point of view we want actually support less features. --- It would be nice to be able to upload the update before UIF, so that we don't require further exception steps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1964732 Title: [FFe] Include Desktop Icons Appearance Settings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1964732/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

You have been subscribed to a public bug: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu - 21.10 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or by checking in Software Center ubuntu-desktop: Installed: 1.472 Candidate: 1.472 Version table: *** 1.472 500 500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu impish/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) What you expected to happen - The Ubuntu dock should be displayed next to a program after resume from screen blank. 4) What happened instead - The Ubuntu dock overlaps the program when resuming from screen blank. I have to click "Restore Down" and then "Maximize" so that the dock is displayed next to the program, rather than over the top of it. It doesn't happen on every resume from screen blank, it happens randomly and it happens on different programs. I have "Auto-hide the Dock" disabled. [Bug 1963756] Re: Desktop Icons NG doesn't display icons in Xorg sessions until I turn it off and turn it back on
Looks like this is a temporary problem where the new version of gjs/mozjs is too stringent to allow the old syntax used in gnome-shell 41. This has been fixed already gnome-shell 42 but a workaround for DING to support older gnome-shell versions is probably a good idea. Mar 14 17:34:54 nine gnome-shell[25609]: Some code accessed the property 'WorkspaceGroup' on the module 'workspaceAnimation'. That property was defined with 'let' or 'const' inside the module. This was previously supported, but is not correct according to the ES6 standard. Any symbols to be exported from a module must be defined with 'var'. The property access will work as previously for the time being, but please fix your code anyway. Thanks for the bug report. Next time the freeze happens please: 1. Wait 10 seconds. 2. Shut down by pressing the power button. 3. Power on and then run: journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt 4. Attach the resulting text file here. 5. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 6. If step 5 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. ** Tags added: focal ** Changed in: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1964711 Title: Locked Ubuntu is frozen and cannot be unlocked To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1964711/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
