There is a similar report upstream on

it seems the issue started after https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
control-center/-/merge_requests/864 (which was recently SRUed to focal)

[Bug 1970788] Re: Update nautilus to 42.1.1

2022-05-06 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Jeremy, or anyone else affected,

Accepted nautilus into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/1:42.1.1-0ubuntu1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1969512] Re: Totem unable to play video: "The specified movie could not be found"

2022-05-06 Thread Dave Jones
I've now installed the -dbg packages in an attempt to get a proper
stacktrace (as requested by seb128); unfortunately try as I might I've
been unable to re-create the crash I experienced a couple of weeks ago.
Totem still fails to play anything (same message, same debug output as
previously reported), but no crashes.

One thing I have noted, after retrying on a freshly flashed card is that
using gst-launch directly fails initially, complaining that it's lacking
the AAC codec (perhaps I should amend the ISO test case to use an OGG
instead -- though I have a feeling this *used* to work, maybe it
prompted to install the necessary codec). Still, installing
gstreamer1.0-libav fixes this and gst-launch then happily plays the
video (and audio), whilst totem still fails with the aforementioned
message.

I'll keep trying to get a proper stacktrace, but at this point I'd say
it's likely unrelated to totem's failure to play the video (given
there's evidently no issue with gstreamer itself playing the video
otherwise, and totem still fails to play the video even when no crash
occurs).

[Bug 1970248] Re: .deb files open with Archive Manager by default

2022-05-06 Thread Steve Langasek
Missing 'where problems could occur' per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#SRU_Bug_Template

And I do see significant risk of problems; while the mime handler for
.deb files is incorrect, a diff of /etc/gnome/defaults.list vs
/usr/share/applications/gnome-mimeapps.list shows a number of
differences, including some types that are only handled in
/usr/share/applications/gnome-mimeapps.list. Given that shipping
/usr/share/applications/gnome-mimeapps.list was unintentional and it's
so soon after release we might accept wholesale dropping of the file,
however I would still want to see analysis of the impact.

[Bug 1972004] [NEW] Dock follows primary display scaling for all displays

2022-05-06 Thread Christian
Public bug reported:

This bug seems like #1826543, but I fled a new one because it is a
regression from 21.10.

While writing this, I also noticed that other elements only follow the
primary display scaling, like the numbers on the top left that say which
display is which, and the pop-up that asks whether I want to keep the
new display settings, so I might have filed this bug in the wrong
package.

Just tested with Focal's Nautilus 1:3.36.3-0ubuntu1.20.04.1 and this

This is also affecting Virsh (KVM/QEMU) based virtual machines. Just
tested with The latest Focal update (gnome-settings-daemon
3.36.1-0ubuntu1.1) and the machine was turned off without any

2022-05-06 Thread Miguel Belardinelli Prytoluk
And I've found yet another weird behavior. Although I can't save to
"~/1" normally, if I add "~/1" as a bookmark, I can save to it, but only
if click on the bookmark. If I navigate to "~/1" trough the file
explorer with any other path instead of clicking the bookmark, I can't
save anymore.

[Bug 1971516] Re: File save dialog from all browsers can't save outside of Downloads or /tmp when file name is not selected

2022-05-06 Thread Trogdor
Updated the title because I think I figured out the key (and it looks
like others have too!).

If you navigate through the file system, the "name" box at the top
becomes greyed out, and when hit "save" nothing happens. If you click
into the name box again to make it active, it saves as expected.

If you click into one of the shortcut folders on the left (Downloads,
Home) it can save because the filename box remains active. However,
clicking any other folder the name box is inactive and saving just
doesn't happen.

[Bug 1972034] [NEW] On browser download/save dialog, filename in name box is highlighted as if it is active, but typing doesn't edit name unless you click into the box

2022-05-06 Thread Trogdor
Public bug reported:

This has bugged me for many years now, and figure as long as the kinks
are being worked out on this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1971516 I should
bring it up:

When you download a file from a browser, the save dialog pops up, and
the filename in the name box at the top is highlighted (just the name,
not the extension), which is the universal symbol for "I'm highlighted,
start typing and you'll overwrite me!"

However, typing does nothing unless you click the box, at which point
the cursor is in the middle of the name, and you have re-highlight if
you want to rename the file.

This is still confusing to me after many years.

Expected behaviour:

Either: Filename is highlighted and you can start typing to replace the
name (but not the extension)

Or: Filname is NOT highlighted by default, indicating you are not ready
to edit.

Since Ubuntu 20.04... possibly longer.

[Bug 1970984] Re: Can't save files in a Folder in a Folder 22.04

2022-05-06 Thread Miguel Belardinelli Prytoluk
Yes Trogdor, it seems to be the same bug as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1971516

Can confirm that when selecting the file name box this issue does not
happen. This explains every single behavior I've described. On a second
thought, this issue doesn't seem to be related to "top level
directories" whatsoever. The observed behavior of top-level directories
emerges because when you click on any shortcut on the left the file name
box is selected.

Another thing I've noticed is that both Chrome, Firefox and Telegram
have a full screen file save dialog. Software that have a resizable file
save dialog (or a custom file save dialog) don't seem to suffer from
this behavior.

[Bug 1799679] Re: Nvidia driver causes Xorg to use 100% CPU and huge lag when dragging OpenGL app windows

2022-05-06 Thread Kes
Updated today to 22.04 and started noticing this issue as well.

easy to reproduce when chrome have video or any kind of animation happening.
If there are only static pages (like text). There are no lag. This affects all
window dragging.

* terminal
* files
* other apps
* also chrome itself

Once chrome tab with animation/video/charts is closed or no longer
active, everything start working fast again.

Only interesting err from journal:
```
