[Bug 1972889] Re: Screen reader reads the data while computer is locked

2022-05-13 Thread Ivan Roganov
Also, I want to make sure that we did not miss this part:

Opened browser is Brave. It's a chromium-based browser, and then I would
lock a computer, with this, pressing Alt+Super+S would start reading
chromium interface.

** Description changed:

  # lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
  Release: 22.04

  # apt-cache policy gnome-shell
  gnome-shell:
Installed: 42.0-2ubuntu1
Candidate: 42.0-2ubuntu1
Version table:
   *** 42.0-2ubuntu1 500

  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Ubuntu is installed on a laptop. Within five minutes of inactivity, the
screen lock activates and locks the system. Computer is secured. 10
minutes later, my cat (her name is Loaf) comes up to the laptop and sits
down on the keyboard. This activates a screen reader. (Shortcut is Alt +
  Super + S)

  What I've expected:
Screen reader would start reading the contents of a lock screen

  What happened:
Screen reader app started reading contents of a Brave Browser window that was
opened on my desktop. It read all tabs and proceeded reading the opened web
page.

I've reported this bug at secur...@ubuntu.org and got the following answer:

  > Nice find - I am able to reproduce this locally in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS too
  > - I suspect this is a vulnerability in gnome-shell as it is
  > responsible for handling the lock screen in standard Ubuntu.

As per further directions, I'm posting this bug here and in gnome repo.

P.S. I expect Loaf being credited for this find. She really likes treats.

[Bug 1973386] Re: 22.04 Jammy: Lockscreen (but not login) on-screen keyboard touch keys do not work

2022-05-13 Thread Vivek Gani
** Description changed:

Several people on reddit (many surface pro / go users, and myself as an
HP tablet pc user) have been experiencing an issue on Ubuntu 22.04

functional, but the main ubuntu loginscreen on-screen keyboard is
  functional.

https://www.reddit.com/r/SurfaceLinux/comments/umeiqx/onscreen_keyboard_doesnt_register_key_presses_in/

  Steps to reproduce:

  0) Ensure you have Screen Keyboard enabled in the accessibility menu.
  1) From a logged-in state, Go to upper right corner and click Lock
  2) Turn device back on so 'user lockscreen' comes back on, try to log in
using touchscreen on-screen keyboard.
  3) Observe key presses don't work.
  4) Try to close login password prompt such that switch user login button
appears.
- 5) Touch switch user login button, leading to 'login screen' (black with
ubuntu logo)
+ 5) Touch switch user login button, leading to 'login screen' (black with

[Bug 1969896] Re: Evince Document Viewer(42.0) does not remember last page in 22.04 and opens in a tiny window when launched

2022-05-13 Thread Etienne URBAH
I fully confirm that this Evince issue is linked to Apparmor :
$ aa-exec -p unconfined evince example.pdf
systematically opens the PDF file in the same large windows and with the same
side pane as the last time.

I have added following line at the end of /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.evince :
  owner /{,var/}run/user/*/at-spi/bus_* rw,

Then apparmor does not complain about at-spi/bus anymore.

But Evince still systematically opens all PDF files (already opened in the past
or not) in a window :
- so small that the document is NOT readable,
- without side pane.

[Bug 1973373] [NEW] Update gnome-shell to 42.1

2022-05-13 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Impact
--
There is a new bugfix release in the stable 42 series.

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/blob/42.1/NEWS

Test Case 1
-
sudo apt install gnome-session gnome-shell-extensions
Install the update.
Log out.
Select your name on the login screen.
Click the gear button to choose a session to log in to.
Finish logging in.

Verify that things continue to work well for all these sessions:
GNOME
GNOME Classic
Ubuntu
Ubuntu on Xorg

Test Case 2
---
Because a GNOME Shell update years ago broke some GNOME Shell extensions, it's
also requested that we do a basic test of all the extensions included in the
Ubuntu repositories.

https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/removal-of-gnome-shell-extension-from-
universe-and-stop-auto-syncs/18437/9

Install all the extensions.
Log out and then log back in.
Use one of the Extensions apps to enable all the extensions.
Verify that they can all be enabled without showing an error.

What Could Go Wrong
---
GNOME Shell is the heart of the Ubuntu desktop experience.

A severe enough bug could mean that people are unable to use their
desktop version of Ubuntu.

Smaller bugs could interrupt people's workflows.

GNOME Shell is included in the GNOME micro release exception

[Bug 1970291] Re: [nvidia] Secondary monitor performance is slow on an Nvidia hybrid system in Wayland sessions

I'm quite convinced that moving the mouse fast in circles over Firefox

external monitor.

I just noticed that night light doesn't work on Wayland but I guess that
is a known issue.

+ --
When switching to a Java UI application using Alt+Tab, very often
application's window is raised, but it doesn't get keyboard focus - it stays in
the previous application, and that application continues to process keyboard
events. When the problem occurs, hovering mouse over Java app's window gets the
focus transferred to it.
This problem only happens in Wayland session, not in X.Org session. It can be
reproduced in Ubuntu 22.04, but not in 20.04.4 version.
- ---
- $ lsb_release -rd
- Description: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
- Release: 22.04
- ---
- The problem seems to affect all Java versions - reproduced for different
OpenJDK builds (8, 11, 17, 18). It can also be observed for Java version
provided by Ubuntu's 'default-jre' package (11.0.15+10-Ubuntu-0ubuntu0.22.04.1).

- Source code for a minimal Java application, for which the problem can be
reproduced, is attached. Download the provided JTextFieldTest.java file, then
from terminal prompt execute 'java JTextFieldTest.java' (Java 11 or later is
required, command should be executed from the location of the downloaded file).
App's window with a text field will be opened. Click with mouse on the terminal
window, then press Alt+Tab and enter some text.
- Expected result: focus is switched to Java app's window, and text appears in
its text field.
- Actual result: Java app's window is raised, but focus stays in terminal
window, and typed text appears there.
+ The problem seems to affect all Java versions - reproduced for different
+ OpenJDK builds (8, 11, 17, 18). It can also be observed for Java version
+ provided by Ubuntu's 'default-jre' package
+ (11.0.15+10-Ubuntu-0ubuntu0.22.04.1).
+

+ 1. sudo apt install default-jre
+ 2. Download the minimal test case app from comment #1
+ 3. From a terminal run the app
+ java Downloads/JTextFieldTest.java
+ 4. Click on the terminal window (instead of the Java app)
+ 5. Press Alt-Tab to switch focus back to the Java app
+ 6. Type a few characters.
+
+ The characters should show in the Java app's text field instead of in

[Bug 1967219] Re: Wayland: Cursor is 90° rotated on rotated screen

2022-05-13 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

- I have a multi-screen setup with one of the displays being rotated
- (Portrait Right in Displays settings).

+ --
+ Cursor isn't pointed the right direction with multiple screens with different
rotations. This seems to only happen when the Desktop Icons extension is
disabled (for instance in the default GNOME session).
+
+ Test Case
+ ---
+
+ 1) Use one of the GNOME Shell extensions app to disable the Desktop Icons NG
extension.
+ 2) Plug in a second monitor.
+ 3) Open the Settings App. Open the Displays page.
+ 4) Set one of the screens to have Orientation: Portrait Right
+ 5) Move your cursor from one screen to the other. It only happens if there
aren't windows open under the cursor so this is easiest to reproduce if your
windows are all minimized.

+ Original Bug Report
+ ---
+ I have a multi-screen setup with one of the displays being rotated (Portrait
Right in Displays settings).

Since upgrading to Jammy the cursor gets 90° rotated after being moved
from a landscape to the rotated screen.

This seems to be happening only in Overview or if cursor is hovered over
the desktop. Hovering cursor over the application window (e.g. Terminal)
would reset the rotation; however, after being moved back to the
landscape screen, the cursor gets rotated again (but now in an opposite
  direction).

This doesn't happen on Xorg and it wasn't happening on impish (wayland).
This doesn't happen if desktop icons NG extension is enabled.

- Steps to reproduce:

- 1) Disable DING extension.
- 2) Set up two screens, (1) being rotated and (2) in normal Landscape position.
- 3) Move cursor to (2), it should be in normal position.
- 4) Move cursor to (1).
- Expected: the cursor is in normal position.
- Actual: the cursor is rotated 90° CW.
- 5) Open the application, move it to (1), hover the cursor over it.
- The cursor would go back to the normal position again.
- 6) Move the cursor to (2)
- Expected: the cursor is in normal position.
- Actual: the cursor is rotated 90° CCW. As in the previous case, hovering
cursor over the application window fixes it's rotation.
-
- Additional notes: sometimes the dead cursor copy stays near the screen
- edge after cursor is being moved to a different screen.

[Bug 1972059] Re: One screen does not come back from lock

2022-05-13 Thread Andrea
Hi

it happened again.
This time pretty bad, the monitor did not wake up, even after various
Ctrl-Alt-F. But after I switched it off-on, it worked.

I was able to login using the other monitor and I immediately check the time:
18:23:37.
The other monitor finally came back after that time.

I attach the journal file.

[Bug 1973351] [NEW] Screenshot tool freezes on Chromium with secondary menu open

2022-05-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi, I have found a behavior that I'm able to reproduce consistently (I
have not tried with other browsers).

Here are the steps to reproduce (should work on a clean Ubuntu 22.04
installation):

1. Install Chromium (apt install chromium-browser)
2. Open chromium
3. Open a website
4. Right click on an empty section of the website, so the secondary menu will
open (the one that contains the "Back", "Reload", "Save as..." options)
5. Press the PrntScrn key, making the new screenshot UI to appear

The screenshot UI freezes and cannot be closed neither by pressing Esc
nor any other key combination.

[Bug 1973219] Re: Update gtk4 to 4.6.3

2022-05-13 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Jeremy, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gtk4 into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk4/4.6.3+ds1-0ubuntu1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1973288] [NEW] Since Jammy, Alt+Tab is not working properly

2022-05-13 Thread nymea
Public bug reported:

Since the upgrade to jammy alt+tab doesn't work any more properly when
hitting it very fast.

Doing a slow Alt+Tab works fine, but just quickly hitting the two keys
will not switch the window any more, instead a notification bubble will
appear says "Application XYZ is ready".

It kinda feels like it's a race between the alt+tab and the focus
stealing prevention. I.e. if one is fast enough, the windows are swapped
before the focus stealing prevention realizes that the user actually
wants to change focus and prevents the new window coming to the front,
just displaying the notification bubble instead.

FWIW, this is on X11, not sure if wayland would be affected too as
wayland is not an option for the Dell XPS yet due to HighDPI screen
scaling not working good enough yet.
