[Bug 1973397] Re: Ubuntu 22.04: Display manager resets when trying to change it using gear icon in login window

2022-05-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please remove nomodeset from /etc/default/grub and then run:

  sudo update-grub

and reboot. "nomodeset" will prevent almost all graphics drivers from
working - you don't want that.

Please also ensure you have a valid driver installed for the "GeForce
930MX" by using the 'Additional Drivers' app to install the right one.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

If I have a window open on the primary display (laptop) and plug in an
HDMI monitor (secondary) the window (primary) redraws without accounting
for the top status bar.

In other words, the window status bar is COVERING UP the top of the
application window (no min, max close).

I can confirm the bug no longer happens with mutter (and friends, i.e.
mutter-common, libmutter etc) 42.1-0ubuntu1 (installed from jammy-
proposed). I'm not observing any other issues or side effects.

[Bug 1969577] Re: Small icons in app grid of Activities Overview

Yes we know it's not fixed for everyone. That's why the bug is still
open here and upstream in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
shell/-/issues/2173

If however the original OP is satisfied with the changes in 42.1 then
this bug should close and the remaining issues only tracked in the
upstream bug that's still open.

[Bug 1964539] Re: [nouveau] 42beta: screen unlock gets stuck on primary display, secondary display is unlocked

2022-05-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Bogdan, please don't reopen other people's bugs. We need bugs to be
owned by an original reporter and if that original reporter is no longer
answering questions then the bug should close.

That said, this conversation didn't end with a question. We need Matthew
to try installing the Nvidia driver instead.

I will also remove the mutter task here since nouveau bugs live almost
entirely in the kernel (if not Mesa).

[Bug 1970013] Re: Totem Video player displays distorted video (Intel Ivy Bridge)

This also affects me too. It's more of an annoyance (at least in my

clicking on the video thumbnail temporarily fixes the issue. It's
opening video files directly that causes this glitch for me.

[Bug 1975402] [NEW] GJS returns wrong session mode

2022-05-22 Thread popov895
Public bug reported:

As stated in the documentation
(https://gjs.guide/extensions/topics/session-modes.html#example-usage),
when a user is logged in, the Shell is in the `user` mode. I checked it
on Fedora 36, and that's how it works.

But in Ubuntu, for some reason, `imports.ui.main.currentMode` returns
the login name of the current user instead of the `user` constant, which
breaks extensions that use it.

[Bug 1973397] Re: Ubuntu 22.04: Display manager resets when trying to change it using gear icon in login window

2022-05-22 Thread Gaber Terseglav
Additional comment regarding nomodeset (/etc/default/grub file attached):
I have in fact following line in /etc/default/grub:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset"

This suggests your kernel is missing or has disabled the graphics
driver. Please ensure you are not using the 'nomodeset' kernel
parameter.

I am running OOTB kernel.

2) whoopsie
> 2022-05-01 09:05 2022-05-01 07:05 UTC Crash /usr/libexec/gnome-session-binary

This may also be related to the problem you describe so please look at
https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file
/var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to
recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us.

If I look at the list, two reports seem related (in 2022):
* 2022-05-01 09:05  2022-05-01 07:05 UTCCrash
/usr/libexec/gnome-session-binary
(https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/dccbb020-c91f-11ec-99b8-fa163e55efd0)
* 2022-02-17 07:02  2022-02-17 06:02 UTCCrash   gnome-settings-daemon

I can not see any details for both or them, because I get the message:
"Sorry, you are not a member of a group that is allowed to see the data
from error reports. Please fill out this form to request access.".
