[Bug 1978366] [NEW] unlocking screen hangs for 20-40sec before working

2022-06-10 Thread Jason Haar
Public bug reported:

Ever since installing (not upgrading) Ubuntu-22.04, I've noticed that
quite often (but not always) unlocking the screensaver freezes the
entire system. By that I mean I will tap my keyboard, the blank screen
will lighten up and show the password field, I start typing, get the
"***" characters, and then it freezes: typing doesn't continue, mouse
stops moving. If I wait, 30-40 (ish) seconds later it will catch up and
start responding again and I can continue. Quite often the freeze
doesn't occur until I have entered my password and hit ENTER - but it
does freeze earlier too.

I have figured out that if this happens, I can speed up the process by
hitting Ctrl-Alt-F3 to go to a tty, then immediately Alt-F2 to go back
to gnome - and that flushes out the problem. Definitely shaves many
seconds off waiting around for the fault to clear by itself. I was also
talking to a collegue who installed Ubuntu-22.04 this week - he's
noticed the same issue. Also a Dell laptop - but different model.

I would guess Wayland related - but don't have any evidence for that,
so I put this as gnome-shell

Thanks!

happens during upgrade from 21.10. Thanks for raising and

2022-06-10 Thread Brad Woodward
I came here from 1969351. On a rig with two identical AMD GPUs (First
driving one monitor, second driving three), I'll sometimes have the one
monitor disconnect, but it won't detect the failure or cause the other
three screens to rearrange until I try to apply a change in Display
Settings, after which it will show the one monitor as missing. The
system will continue operating normally for a minute or two, before
crashing back to the login screen

Dmesg shows these entries:
[127759.552431] gnome-shell[4403]: segfault at 558324328300 ip 558324328300

- Sometimes the system crashes to the login screen during a screen lock without
any interaction
- Sometimes the system crashes to the login screen when attempting to unlock a
locked session
- Sometimes after unlock a session shows all the windows rearranged or
consolidated into a single workspace as though a monitor was briefly
disconnected. Often windows are 'maximized' with a strange offset from a
monitor's edge, which is fixed by re-maximizing the window.
- Sometimes after unlock everything is fine.

I have crash reports for the most recent failure in /var/crash, though
I'm not sure how to provide them. _usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash is
nearly 70MiB

2022-06-10 Thread Steve Langasek
> As a component of GNOME core,

How do I confirm that this is the case?
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME points to
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-build-
meta/-/tree/master/elements/core which does not list it. It does not
appear in the discourse discussion at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/scope-of-gnome-mru/18041/3. I see that
there have certainly been microrelease updates of eds in stable Ubuntu
releases in the past, but I don't see how it's covered by the current
(known-incomplete) microrelease exception.

[Bug 1975872] Re: [ASUS GL552VW] Loss of signal (black screen) on external monitor

2022-06-10 Thread Andrii Beznosiuk
1. Yes, reducing resolution of the external monitor (1440 x 900, to be exact)
fixed the issue.
2. I typed that in the terminal and issue persisted.
3. Unfortunately, my laptop doesn't support USB-C DisplayPort (i've tried with
my friend's 2K monitor with DisplayPort to USB-C cable and the monitor wasn't
receiving any signal), and changing refresh rate to bearable numbers (like
50Hz) didn't help.

[Bug 1969574] Re: [Wayland] Can not select JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA windows (including Android Studio) with mouse in workspace

2022-06-10 Thread Dmitry Batrak
I'm attaching the source code for a sample X client application, for
which the problem can be reproduced reliably. The application uses
'globally active' input focus model, just like Java (AWT/Swing)
applications, but also waits for 10 milliseconds before reacting to
WM_TAKE_FOCUS message. If such an artificial delay isn't performed (just
comment out 'usleep' call in the source code), the problem can be
reproduced as well, but only with a certain probability.

The sample app can be compiled and launched using the following command:
gcc twoFrames.c -lX11; ./a.out

[Bug 1969574] Re: [Wayland] Can not select JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA windows (including Android Studio) with mouse in workspace

2022-06-10 Thread Dmitry Batrak
Even though
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1971693 seems to
be resolved with the latest update (with mutter 42.1), the use case
described in this ticket still doesn't work as expected every time. Here
are the steps to reproduce the issue for the attached minimal Java
application:

1. sudo apt install default-jre
2. Download attached file TwoFrames.java
3. From a terminal run the app
java Downloads/TwoFrames.java
4. Press Super (Window) key on the keyboard and click with mouse on frame 1.
Then press Super, and click on frame 2. Repeat several times.

At some point, the focus switch will fail, with previously selected
frame staying in focus.

This happens to when connecting HDMI monitor to the laptop.
The laptop's screen doesn't wake up while the external monitor turns on.

Unplugging the HDMI cable, makes internal monitor works again.

2022-06-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
When a monitor turns off you will get a log message that contains:

  property 'ACTIVE' (22) to 0

which is not mentioned in the log of comment #17. So indeed that log is
not from a time when the monitor was turned off via software.

[Bug 1977977] Re: Blanked screen doesn't wake up after locking

2022-06-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Either the log in comment #17 is not from when the screen was
blank/black/off, or it was and the monitor/driver is faulty. Because the
kernel seems to be reporting that the screen is successfully displaying
new frames. If it's doing that but you can't see an image then it's a
problem in the kernel or in the monitor itself.

I think it's more likely that the log in comment #17 is just not from a
time when the screen was blank.

[Bug 1969896] Re: Evince Document Viewer(42.0) does not remember last page in 22.04 and opens in a tiny window when launched

2022-06-10 Thread renbag
If someone does not want to disable apparmor for evince, then he can
install the package "devilspie2" and use a lua configuration file to set
the window size (see the manual of the program):

if (get_window_class()=="Evince") then
  set_window_size(800,600)
end

But this is not optimal and not suitable for everyone.

As a user that opens very frequently pdf files this bug is highly irritating
and makes the ubuntu desktop experience very poor.
Can someone raise the importance of this bug?

[Bug 1978260] Re: Evolution not closing emails after sending

2022-06-10 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1978260

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future
users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

I experience that behavior as well while I have no mounted filesystem
over the network.
