[Bug 1999122] [NEW] Gnome 42.5 Nigth Light does not work properly with dual monitors

2022-12-07 Thread greenmandd
Public bug reported:

I`am using dual monitors Huawei Mateview GT 27'', VA, QHD, 165Hz, 1500R,
HDR, Display on my working PC. They are connected to AMD Radeon RX5500XT
video card with HDMI (one monitor) and Display port (second monitor).

The problem is that Gnome Night Light works only to one monitor
(connected to DP). There is no matter whether you are using Wayland or
Xorg session. The result is always the same. I have tested Redshift
which works only with Xorg session.

[Bug 1999100] [NEW] Update gnome-characters to 43.1

2022-12-07 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

NOTE TO SRU TEAM

Please accept the glib2.0 SRU first. To enable the new feature to work best, I
have added a Build-Depends (which results in a Depends) on the new glib version.

Impact
--
There is a new bugfix release in the stable 43 series

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-characters/-/blob/43.1/NEWS

This adds one new feature: new emoji and Unicode characters from Unicode
15.

Test Case 1
---
Install the update
Open the Characters app.
Select an emoji character and click Copy Character
Paste the emoji somewhere.
You should see the emoji you pasted.

Test Case 2
---
Open the Characters app.
Use the search feature to search for "moose"
A moose emoji should show up. This is one of the new Emoji 15.
https://blog.emojipedia.org/whats-new-in-unicode-15-0/

(This is Test Case 3 (Extra) from https://launchpad.net/bugs/1999098)

What Could Go Wrong
---
GNOME Characters is part of GNOME Core and falls under the GNOME Stable Release
Update microrelease exception

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

It is installed by default in Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Budgie.

Other Info
--
Unicode 15 enablement was granted a User Interface Freeze Exception for Ubuntu
22.10: https://launchpad.net/bugs/1989626

glib and gnome-characters are the only 2 late pieces that the Ubuntu
Desktop team plans to SRU for Ubuntu 22.10.

[Bug 1999098] [NEW] Update glib to 2.74.3

2022-12-07 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Impact
--
There is a new bugfix release in the stable 2.74 series

The current release in Ubuntu 22.10 is 2.74.0

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/-/blob/2.74.3/NEWS

Test Case 1
---
glib has an extensive test suite.

Failing tests will fail the build.
This update will also trigger a lot of autopkgtests.

Ensure that there aren't autopgktest regressions triggered by this
update and that the builds complete successfully

Test Case 2
---
Pretty much all parts of GNOME use GLib, so test anything in the desktop that
you can. If you reboot the machine and can get to the desktop, that's already
tested GLib extensively. But also run applications like the terminal, the file
browser and epiphany-browser

Test Case 3 (Extra)
--
Install gnome-characters 43.1. (This is being SRU'd, but the version from Lunar
also works.)
Open the Characters app.
Use the search feature to search for "moose"
A moose emoji should show up. This is one of the new Emoji 15.
https://blog.emojipedia.org/whats-new-in-unicode-15-0/

With glib 2.74.0, the moose emoji won't be searchable but it does show
in the Animals category.

What Could Go Wrong
---
This update contains fixes in multiple places so multiple apps could be
affected. The consequences of a broken GLib can range from some functions
returning bad results sometimes, which have minimal runtime implications, up to
the system simply crashing all the time.

[Bug 1999083] [NEW] cannot rename multiple files

2022-12-07 Thread Rebecca J.
Public bug reported:

If I highlight two or more files at once and either press F2 or right-
click and choose "Rename..." from the popup menu, I expect to be able to
rename those files in one action. Instead, nothing happens. There is
absolutely no perceptible response from the system (well the pop-up menu
does disappear, if I tried the right-click option).

The bulk rename feature worked in the previous version of Ubuntu.

[Bug 1970495] Re: Window manager freezes when plugging in USB-C dock with external monitor ([drm] *ERROR* mstb 00000000f21f0a30 port 1: DPCD read on addr 0x4b0 for 1 bytes NAKed)

2022-12-07 Thread Valentijn Sessink
My Thinkpad X1 gen 6 with Ubuntu 22.04, Lenovo 40AJ dock with 4K LG
monitor with DP cable, will sometimes just show 2 or 4 lines with "DPCD
read on addr 0x4b0 for 1 bytes NAKed", after which the system will just
continue to work. But sometimes the "1 bytes NAKed" messages just keep
running - which is when the session will crash, eventually.

If I connect the dock with the laptop LCD on, the "1 bytes NAKed" will
freeze the LCD. When I'm fast enough to disconnect the DP cable, the LCD
unfreezes. However, reconnecting the DP will re-freeze the LCD.

[Bug 1857392] Re: Window manager warning: Overwriting existing binding of keysym...

2022-12-07 Thread Zoe
I'm also having this problem. I'm on Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS I have a hotkey
on my Razer mouse set to a normal key on the keyboard via the Razer
software and every time I press the hotkey the fps drop to 0 for about 1
- 2 seconds in Minecraft (xD) and I see the same logs as everyone else
here in the syslog. So yes: This does effect performance.

[Bug 1998964] Re: Laptop wakes up from sleep when lid is closed if mouse is moved

2022-12-07 Thread Sami Pietila
Agreed that the behavior should be dependent on the existence of
external display and keyboard where the current behavior would make
sense.

I tried how Windows 11 behaves and it did not seem to wake up on mouse
events when laptop lid is closed.

This did not seem to change the behavior:
sudo sh -c "echo XHCI > /proc/acpi/wakeup"

[Bug 1760849] Re: Login screen appears on only one monitor and it's not the one I want

2022-12-07 Thread Kees Bakker
Another problem with the workaround/fix is that it does NOT work when
wayland is enabled for the login screen.

You have to uncomment WaylandEnable=false in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and
then systemctl restart gdm.

[Bug 1915910] Re: evince does not print (apparmor, pxgsettings)

2022-12-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Ok, fix uploaded to Lunar and 22.04 now

** Description changed:

- audit: type=1400 audit(1613557537.646:81): apparmor="DENIED"
- operation="exec" profile="/usr/bin/evince" name="/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
- gnu/libproxy/0.4.17/pxgsettings" pid=3500 comm="sh" requested_mask="x"
- denied_mask="x" fsuid=1000 ouid=0
+ * Impact
+
+ Evince hangs when opening the printing dialog for some users with a
+ remote printer configured and connected
+
+ * Test case
+
+ - configure a remote printer and turn it on
+ - open a pdf
+ - try to print the document
+
+ the print dialog shouldn't freeze the viewer
+
+ * What could go wrong
+
+ The change is only allowing access to one extra system binary from the
+ apparmor profile so shouldn't really have an impact on the software
+ behaviour. If the syntax or content of the change was incorrect it could
+ make the apparmor profile not been loaded anymore or block access to
+ thing that should be allowed, so ensure that opening documents, printing
+ and thumbnailing are still working
+
+ --
+
+
+ audit: type=1400 audit(1613557537.646:81): apparmor="DENIED" operation="exec"

requested_mask="x" denied_mask="x" fsuid=1000 ouid=0

It seems that evince has no rights to print if I understand this
  correctly

Printing the same pdf-file from the same origin/folder works with OCULAR

  The error is reproduceable

[Bug 1873398] Re: gnome-disks won't do SMART on NVME drive

2022-12-07 Thread John D
** Description changed:

I'm running 20.04 beta amd64 Desktop from a USB stick of the live ISO.

I opened Disks (gnome-disks) and it sees all my drives, but it won't
show SMART stats on my NVME drive (Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 500GB). The
SMART menu item is greyed out. It works fine on other drives.

The NVME has SMART support; it works fine with smartctl -a /dev/nvme0n1 for
example. (Though smartctl is not in this live ISO, I have apt-get installed it
at another time and tried it; and
it works fine in the Ubuntu 18.04 that is installed on this machine.)

I've attached a screencast showing the failure.
