[Bug 2020009] Re: F9 no longer hides side pane

2023-05-18 Thread Coeur Noir
Big disappointment here →
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/2427

How someone can say « There is no need to hide it in large windows » ? ?
?

It depends on many factors :

⋅ screen size,

⋅ user comfort about his eyes and hands moves ( may be visually
impaired, may have slow or unsure hands moves, whatever… )

⋅ d'n'd gets easier without « obstacle » on the way between 2 windows

⋅ it's probably easier on touchscreen too ( I can't test this )

⋅ it helps focus on the task

So, hopelessly → https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/2965

[Bug 2019906] [NEW] 23.04 : condensed, bold and black fonts can't be used for interface and title bar

2023-05-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

fresh lunar lobster installation here,

from legacy iso image ( ubiquity installer. )

As I usually do, I tried to change the font for interface, as I much
prefer « condensed » fonts rather than large, round, regular ones.

In 20.04 or 22.04 or 22.10 gnome-tweaks allowed to do that.

Today in 23.04, it only changes font in gnome-shell ( top panel,
activities and app's views ) but not in other app's, not in the whole
interface as it used to do.

In dconf-editor I did not find entries regarding « global » interface
font.

Is this intended behavior ?

Ability to change font type and size is also a matter of accessibility.

For references :

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1468338/23-04-how-change-font-in-interface-gnome-shell-window-title-bar
⋅ https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=2079313

[Bug 2019230] Re: Standard Notes Black Display

2023-05-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Were you actually using Xorg or Wayland when the problem happened?
Sounds like the same mutter issue as bug 1987976.

As famous as that Phoronix article is, I don't think any related bug has
actually been reported to us until now. Perhaps
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2811 is related?

[Bug 2019230] [NEW] Standard Notes Black Display

2023-05-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I launch the application "Standard Notes" the application window
appears as solid black. I have had to change from using the Nvidia
graphics driver under 22.10 to the Nouveau driver since upgrading to
23.04 because the Nvidia 390 driver wasn't working (I have a GeForce GT
730 graphics card).

1) Ubuntu Release: 23.04
2) xorg package: 1:7.7+23ubuntu2
3) What I expected to happen: the Standard Notes would launch normally and
would be usable.
4) What happened instead: the Standard Notes window launches but is a solid
blob of black - the application is completely unusable.

[Bug 1970495] Re: Window manager freezes when plugging in USB-C dock with external monitor ([drm] *ERROR* mstb 00000000f21f0a30 port 1: DPCD read on addr 0x4b0 for 1 bytes NAKed)

2023-05-18 Thread Valentijn Sessink
This is a successful docking attempt.

I rebooted my laptop with the dock attached. At about 06:30:30, I decide
to remove the dock, in order to try to replicate the behaviour. At
06:30:37 I'm plugging it in again.

I have not redacted these logs, no obfuscation etc, so yeah, you can see
all the slack.desktop etcetera messages. I hope someone can make
something of this. I can't. I'm just seeing my desktop crash randomly
and I don't know where it comes from.

Best regards,

Valentijn

[Bug 1970495] Re: Window manager freezes when plugging in USB-C dock with external monitor ([drm] *ERROR* mstb 00000000f21f0a30 port 1: DPCD read on addr 0x4b0 for 1 bytes NAKed)

2023-05-18 Thread Valentijn Sessink
Here are two full logs. One where things go wrong. I'm walking upstairs
at 06:15 and at 06:16:17, the first logs indicate that the dock is
connected ("usb 1-4: new high-speed USB device number 53 using
xhci_hcd"), the "Cypress Semiconductor؀ USB Billboard" shows up 0.7
seconds later.

Please note that the "pci :05:00.0: BAR 13: no space for [io size
0x4000]" seem harmless, they also do occur on a successful docking
attempt.

At 06:16:22, Thunderbird starts complaining, "Couldn't map window ",
and 06:16:23 gnome-shell complains that an assertion about monitors
failed. I didn't check the source code.

Apparently, I'm impatient today, so I'm unplugging the dock again at
06:16:54, replugging it 06:17:04 because I saw a login screen i.e. my
session had crashed anyway and probably removing it again after a few
seconds. So all info after 06:17:14 or so should be regarded as "utter
mess, please ignore". I tried a few things afterwards, but basically
switching to tty2 and rebooted the system (at 06:20).

I'll add a successful docking attempt log file in the next comment.
