[Bug 1973827] Re: Laptop freezes when recovering from suspend / sleep mode

2023-07-18 Thread Mike Pontillo
I'm seeing a similar issue on a laptop which was working fine until I
reinstalled Ubuntu Jammy with ZFS (with full-disk encryption enabled).
Sometimes it freezes for several seconds, but sometimes I wait hours and
it never recovers.

I don't think this is a gnome-shell issue, but I'm unsure how to go
about troubleshooting it.

I am having the same exact issue for the last 2 weeks or so. I am not so
technically savy but everything would freeze and start up again in about
2 seconds. I Also just noticed my gnome-shell process was over 6 gigs in

[Bug 2028082] [NEW] Update glib to 2.76.4

2023-07-18 Thread Jeremy Bícha
Public bug reported:

Impact
--
There is a new bugfix release in the stable 2.76 series

The current release in Ubuntu 23.04 is 2.76.1

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/-/blob/2.76.4/NEWS

Test Case 1
---
glib has an extensive test suite.

Failing tests will fail the build.
This update will also trigger a lot of autopkgtests.

Ensure that there aren't autopgktest regressions triggered by this
update and that the builds complete successfully

Test Case 2
---
Pretty much all parts of GNOME use GLib, so test anything in the desktop that
you can. If you reboot the machine and can get to the desktop, that's already
tested GLib extensively. But also run applications like the terminal, the file
browser and epiphany-browser

What Could Go Wrong
---
This update contains fixes in multiple places so multiple apps could be
affected. The consequences of a broken GLib can range from some functions
returning bad results sometimes, which have minimal runtime implications, up to
the system simply crashing all the time.

Other Info
--
The upstream gnome-remote-desktop maintainer requested that we do this update
to fix a frequent gnome-remote-desktop crash that shows on errors.ubuntu.com

[Bug 2028016] Re: Drop Channels feature?

2023-07-18 Thread Jeremy Bícha
** Description changed:

Ubuntu's default video app, Totem, includes a Channels tab with 3 web video
providers:
  - Apple Movie Trailers
  - Euronews
  - Rai.tv

  Screenshot attached.

I recommend that we disable this feature because
  - These are somewhat obscure video sources

  - It can be unexpected to parents, school administrators, etc. for this
app to be able to view web content

  - Perhaps most importantly, none of these 3 sources seemed to work today in
my clean Ubuntu 23.04 install.
- + Apple Movie Trailers worked after I installed additional gstreamer plugins
which aren't installed by default.
+ + Apple Movie Trailers worked after I installed the additional media support
which is offered in the Ubuntu installer (ubuntu-restricted-addons which
specifically installs gstreamer1.0-libav)
+ Based on the errors shown in my terminal, it looks like Euronews either
changed their API or it's no longer available.

  - If these channels can be broken and we aren't getting bug reports, are
people actually even using this feature?

  Implementation
  --
This feature is enabled by some plugins shipped in totem's src/plugins . They
can be disabled by the meson build.

Also, totem depends on grilo-plugins-0.3-base which provides supporting
files. None of the plugins works if that dependency is removed.

We would then also need to patch Totem to no longer show the Channels
  page in the Totem app.

[Bug 2020782] Re: Xdcv: Changing display scale setting and reverting it fails

2023-07-18 Thread Fabio Augusto Miranda Martins
Hi,

Thank you for the package in -proposed.

I just tested Ubuntu 22.04 and I can confirm it fixes the issue.

First, used 22.04 with the current mutter version available in jammy-
updates:

user0@U-2RVWD6LKXR3GE:~$ sudo apt-cache policy mutter-common libmutter-10-0

And I do hit the error when trying to revert after changing the scale:

Jul 18 09:40:39 U-2RVWD6LKXR3GE gnome-shell[3186]: Failed to use linear monitor
configuration: Invalid mode 800x600 (-nan) for monitor 'unknown unknown'
