[Bug 2064196] [NEW] Can't change display position to "right of"

2024-04-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have two monitors (Iiyama and Philips).
In 22.04 I had two separate pulpits on each monitors.

Currently in "Settings -> Displays" I can set it to "duplicate" or "joined".
joined option is inconvenient because, every window I open is by default in the
center of the gap between two monitors.

I'am able to change it manually via nvidia-settings but it isn't
persistent.

[Bug 2064177] Re: Window borders and shadows missing from GTK dialogs

2024-04-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report.

Firstly please open a separate bug about the clicking issue (although it
sounds related to bug 2063831). We need each bug report to only describe
one problem.

For the window borders issue please try:

1. Deleting all local extensions:

   cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
   rm -rf extensions

   and then log in again.

2. If the problem still isn't solved then try resetting to system
default settings:

   dconf reset -f /

   and then log in again.

3. If the problem still isn't solved then please run:

   journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
   dconf dump / > dconfchanges.txt

   and attach the resulting text files here.

[Bug 2046844] Re: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP

2024-04-29 Thread Douglas Lucas
I seem to have the same apparmor problem with Chrome under Lubuntu
24.04. From "$ journalctl | grep apparmor | grep chrome" I got
info="Userns create restricted - failed to find unprivileged_userns
profile" (among other things). And it's been reproduced by another as
the following relates.

Can anyone help? Much more detail below. And you can email me:
d...@riseup.net.

Prior Lubuntu versions, I wget'd the latest Chrome deb from Google and
installed it via sudo dpkg -i. Usually it worked quite well. Now with
Lubuntu 24.04, I downloaded the latest Chrome deb the same way on Apr.
28, 2024, but Chrome's not working.

If I run /usr/bin/google-chrome or /usr/bin/google-chrome-stable:

```
$ google-chrome
[55151:55151:0428/224255.271437:FATAL:credentials.cc(127)] Check failed: . :
Permission denied (13)
Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)
```

or

```
$ google-chrome-stable
[55166:55166:0428/224300.689874:FATAL:credentials.cc(127)] Check failed: . :
Permission denied (13)
Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)
```

Meanwhile, $ sudo netstat -antvp shows active connections to multiple
IPs associated with Google, presumably because I tried multiple times to
get Chrome to launch.

Then,

```
$ ls /etc/apparmor.d
1password   firefox lxc-stop rootlesskit
scide  usr.bin.redshift
Discord flatpak lxc-unshare  rpm
signal-desktop usr.bin.tcpdump
slack  usr.lib.libreoffice.program.oosplash
[Bug 2064025] Re: Ubuntu 24.04: Accented characters persisting in gnome-text-editor (in X11 session)
We found that the root cause is the ibus.
A workaround to fix this problem is running:
Furthermore, I will open an issue in:
[Bug 2063831] Re: Clicking on bottom half of applications switches to background application
2024-04-29 Thread TheBuzzSaw
I just barely upgraded from 23.10 to 24.04 on my System76 Thelio. I am
observing this issue as well. I thought it was only Electron apps, but
it eventually started happening with VLC too.
I am able to work around some of the issue by launching Discord and
Visual Studio Code in Wayland mode.
I can provide any details, recreations/videos, logs, etc. Let me know
what would be useful to diagnosing this issue.
[Bug 2063221] Re: Drop libglib2.0-0 transitional package
2024-04-29 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Jeremy, or anyone else affected,
Accepted glib2.0 into noble-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/2.80.0-6ubuntu3 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.
Please help us by testing this new package.  See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.  Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.
If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
noble to verification-done-noble. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-noble. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.
Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!
N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.
** Changed in: glib2.0 (Ubuntu Noble)
   Status: Confirmed => Fix Committed
[Bug 2064177] [NEW] No windows margins, problems with detecting windows on clicks
2024-04-29 Thread florin
Public bug reported:
I have a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 instalation and some of the windows have a
few problems. Some are probably caused by theming, as the windows'
borders (or their color) makes them impossible to discern from the
background windows.
Just earlier I discovered another bug, related to detecting the click and
window I clicked. I am trying to see the sub-content of a software update but
the system reacts as I clicked the window below. In the recording you can see
this happening both with the Terminal and with Firefox.
I have plenty of screenshots and also a screen recording that show the bugs.
[Bug 2063221] Re: Drop libglib2.0-0 transitional package
** Description changed:
  Impact
  apt can struggle with ordering when handling the massive Y2028 time_t
transition when upgrading to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
  It was identified that dropping the libglib2.0-0 transitional package
  can help apt do things in the correct order.
+ Technically, Steve Langasek already removed libglib2.0-0 from noble
+ release just before release. This upload is necessary to ensure that we
+ don't accidentally bring it back.
+
  -
- Is libglib2.0-0 built?
+
+ 3. Ensure that libglib2.0-0 is removed during the upgrade from Ubuntu
+ 22.04 LTS to 24.04 LTS. Technically, ubuntu-release-upgrader is
+ currently set to disallow upgrades to 24.04 LTS. If this is still the
+ case when it is time to verify this SRU, you can manually substitute
+ jammy → noble in /etc/apt/sources.list for purposes of testing this
+ upgrade, probably in a VM since that's not the supported way to upgrade.
  Where Problems Could Occur
  --
  We have landed the change from this SRU in Debian Unstable and it
successfully migrated to Debian Testing on April 27 as one of the first t64
packages to migrate there.
  This SRU was recommended by Julian Klode, the apt maintainer for Debian
  and Ubuntu.
  The original transitional package was added by Simon McVittie in hopes
  that it would help apt be able to calculate the upgrade easier. At least
  in the Ubuntu Desktop 22.04 LTS → 24.04 LTS case, it looks like it was
  the opposite.
- Hmm, we can't actually drop libglib2.0-0 after release, can we?
-
  Other Info
  This is related to LP: #2061918 for the thunderbird deb to snap upgrade
  There are likely several other Launchpad bugs that can be resolved by
[Bug 2063221] Re: Drop libglib2.0-0 transitional package
2024-04-29 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Hi Jeremy,
This looks mostly good, AFAICT.
Could you please complete the SRU bug template by adding the section
'Where problems could occur' / 'Regression potential'? [1]
And although the 'Test Case' is feasible to understand, based on the 'Impact'
section, it would be nice to have a 'functional' test, if at all
possible/reasonably doable.
For example, I  tried to reproduce the thunderbird deb2snap issue, but it
didn't. I realize there might be a more complex package setup/install list to
trigger it, but maybe there's something simpler that you are aware of.
(Or if it's too complex / not worth it, just clarifying that and mentioning
what shouldn't change / how to check for no regressions, would be OK too; I
tried to convey that in comment #1).
Thanks!
[Bug 2063221] Re: Drop libglib2.0-0 transitional package
2024-04-29 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
I tested this with a local package build and local repo in a mantic container,
doing an `apt --dry-run dist-upgrade` without/with that repo (w/ noble apt
sources list),
and manually download/run noble's release upgrader without/with that repo.
The behavior is the same (ie, no regressions) as expected;
libglib2.0-0 is removed in favor of libglib2.0-0t64 in all cases.
Test 1)
Just Noble:
[Bug 2063892] Re: How to « star » an item in Nautilus 46 / Ubuntu 24.04 ?
2024-04-29 Thread Khalid Abu Shawarib
I marked it as invalid because your original post was a support request.
You should change the title and description to ask for an addition of a
feature rather than asking how to use it.
At any rate, feature requests are better discussed in GNOME Discourse
and Gitlab rather than here.
[Bug 2016914] Re: gsd-smartcard: segfault on startup
2024-04-29 Thread Timothée COCAULT
Hi.
I happen to also be affected by this bug and managed to narrow it down.
I guess the problem lies in the function sync_initial_tokens_from_driver
(https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings-daemon/-/blob/master/plugins/smartcard/gsd-smartcard-manager.c#L461).
The code assumes that gck_slot_get_token_info won't return NULL.
However looking in gck, it does return NULL if C_GetTokenInfo returns an
error (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gcr/-/blob/master/gck/gck-
slot.c#L688).
And this is precisely the behavior of opensc-pkcs11.so when it sees an
unrecognized token. It returns the token in C_GetSlotList (as present), but
returns an error when calling C_GetTokenInfo.
So if you login as a user with your USB token plugged in, gsd-smartcard
will crash in a loop.
[Bug 2064105] [NEW] some fstab mounts are shown double/twice
2024-04-29 Thread Siegfried
Public bug reported:
I've mounted a NFS share inside my users home directory into ~/NAS. This
mount point appears twice inside the Nautilus side panel with two
different icons (to me one seems to be a drive symbol and the other a
network folder).
The confusing part is, tmpfs or virtiofs (on qemu guests) mount points
only appear once. I think the screenshot shows this behaviour and shows
the fstab details.
 Importance: Undecided
2024-04-29 Thread Islam
[Bug 2062377] Re: Ubuntu 24.04: gnome-shell crashes on Xorg if a legacy X11 cursor theme is selected
2024-04-29 Thread Dan Ste
I've also encountered this bug/crash since I always change the cursor to
DMZ-White when I install Ubuntu and I reckon other ex-Windows users might also
do. Before that I've noticed this weird "X" cursor when desktop was loading
(see attachement).
I've replicated the bug using only the live USB (try without installing Ubuntu
24.04). Just apt install gnome-tweaks and then change cursor to DMZ-White leads
to crashing. Re-tried by first installing Nvidia drivers with no difference.
[Bug 2064037] Re: GDM session crashes after returning from a screen-off.
2024-04-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The only crash-like problem I can see in those logs is:
  simple-framebuffer simple-framebuffer.0: drm_WARN_ON(map->is_iomem)
which seems to be non-fatal for the Xorg process that triggered it. The
cause of that issue is also bug 2060268, but that too is not a crash. So
please follow these steps:
1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.
2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.
Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.
