[Bug 281871] [NEW] GDM 2.20 does not use hal keyboard config
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Hi, In GDM, the keyboard layout is still PC 105 US, while i'm on a macbook with french keyboard. All is fine in GNOME, without touching configuration through keyboard capplet. I guess this is due to the fact that Xorg don't use xorg.conf anymore. Note also that process-stop should be glassy -- as arrow and other -- for consistency. We still lake a 24x24 save icon. gedit use 16x16, evolution scale it to 24x24. Strange that when seeing the wallpaper of computer, the ton is much like the enlighted wallpaper i shiped than the darken one shiped for now (or like in lock screen at the logout dialog). That was good to have a lock under the screen of the lock screen icon at the logout dialog, like in system-lock-screen. There is a big size problem about tab close button that the new icon reinforce. Don't know what we can do for this. Why is the close icon a label and not an action icon such as next, previous, etc. with glassy effect ? A Quit icon would be appreciated. [Bug 28798] new logout dialog interface issues
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/28798 Comment: Hello, The purpose of the logout applet is to expose this action to the user. This is why using a tiny expressive button at the top right corner is very a good idea. The problem with the system menu is not that it is a menu but that it is not expressive enough. I sugget to deplace the three entry "Lock screen", "Log out" and "Shutdown" into a tiny popup menu available by clicking the logout applet. This way, user have one way to log off and you can use one true look'n'feel for those dialog. Note also that two pilosophy of popup dialog coexist : the pure Mac OS X one (system menu) and the pure Windows XP-like with the logout applet. We should use the Gnomish one popup with few options, icons+text button (horizontal aligned) and a simple question (without a damned stressing count down). About the nature of the icon. I don't think we should use abstract art. Why not use a more concret representation of sleep (a moon quarter) and hibernate (a bear hibernating) ? All of i said are advises, not wishes. I'm sorry to have reported this bug without really considering the usability (only the beauty). I thinkt there is something not polished in this domain : the two different dialog for logout. The one clearly - inspired by the Windows® logout popup - available by clicking the applet, the others - clearly inspired by Mac OS® X logout popup - available by clicking the right option in the System menu. [Bug 28939] logout applet is a not-so-good idea
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/28939 Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: Hello, With flight3 comes a new config of the gnome panel. As this is a good idea to remove the "help" button which is easily available with "System > help", I think this is a bad idea to add the "logout" button which easily available with "System > Logout" or event with power button (on iMac G3, iBook G4 and somes PC keyboards). Laptop users usualy just close the screen, so this is not a feature use by everyone. Another problem : if the user click by mistake to this applet instead of date-applet, he'll be surprise to see the logout dialog. And last but not least, it is really ugly. I talk with some friend and this seems not to be a attended feature or even a "not so good" idea.
