[Bug 281871] [NEW] GDM 2.20 does not use hal keyboard config

2008-10-11 Thread Étienne BERSAC
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Hi,

In GDM, the keyboard layout is still PC 105 US, while i'm on a macbook
with french keyboard. All is fine in GNOME, without touching
configuration through keyboard capplet.

I guess this is due to the fact that Xorg don't use xorg.conf anymore.
GDM 2.24 should not have this problem, but i can't reach to get it
working from source. Would be nice to have GDM 2.24 alternative. How to
get right keymap in GDM ?

Regards,
Étienne.

Salut,

Very nice work Kwwii. However, there is still two bugs from mine :

orange and change the grey to black.

Use shade() and/or mix() to determine an as close as possible color.
Imho, the current metacity-frame background is inconsistent with the
orange. Using a color based on @selected_bg_color is a mendatory.

Re: [Bug 88943] Re: Ubuntulooks doesn't support colour schemes

2007-03-10 Thread Étienne Bersac
Hi,

That's true. This is due to the limited number of customizable colors.
All brown and oranges are base on the same colors. This lead to a orange
everywhere theme. Note that, on my laptop, the colors are a bit lighter.

Anyway, the issue is : is that ugly ? Can we accept those tiny changes ?
It's not up to me to decide wether this file is fine or not, this is up
to the sabdfl.

Would be nice if you can tune the file.

[Bug 56956] Gnome cups manager destroy my config

2006-08-19 Thread Étienne Bersac
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-cups-manager

Hello,

In order to have SANE hpaio backend correctly probe the my networked HP
printer, i have to configure the printer with the DeviceURI set to hp-
makeuri 192.168.X.Y result. e.g. i have an OfficeJet 7140xi networked
device. I set DeviceURI in /etc/cups/printers.conf to
hp:/net/officejet_7100_series?ip=192.168.0.2 . But if i open gnome-cups-
manager, the device URI is set to
ipp://hp:/net/officejet_7100_series%3Fip%3D192.168.0.2 .That end to an
unusable device with sane.

gnome-cups-manager must be able to handle "hp" or "manual" device UI. A

[Bug 46401] Re: [Bug 46401] Re: update notification icon is a label

2006-05-26 Thread Étienne Bersac
Hello,

I guess this is /usr/share/pixmaps/update-icon.png . This is still not a
glassy icon like other. Why 16x16 where system-log-out is 24x24 ?

Note also that process-stop should be glassy -- as arrow and other --
for consistency.

We still lake a 24x24 save icon. gedit use 16x16, evolution scale it to
24x24.

Strange that when seeing the wallpaper of computer, the ton is much like
the enlighted wallpaper i shiped than the darken one shiped for now (or
like in lock screen at the logout dialog).

That was good to have a lock under the screen of the lock screen icon at
the logout dialog, like in system-lock-screen.

There is a big size problem about tab close button that the new icon
reinforce. Don't know what we can do for this. Why is the close icon a
label and not an action icon such as next, previous, etc. with glassy
effect ? A Quit icon would be appreciated.

That would be good to have a Human Quit icon that fit well with the
close icon.

Is this possible to have 24x24 icons for Ekiga (Those one are nice, but
really tiny).

So, that might be al the comment i can do for this.

[Bug 44990] Re: gdm background color is inconsistent

2006-05-25 Thread Étienne Bersac
I understand that, but the artwork is so buggy ! I just want to help
getting the best polished artwork to dapper. I do not consider this as
major changes.

As you seems happy with this artwork mess, i give up. I wish that edgy
process will let the community make a lot propositions for every part of
artwork (from global palette to lost icons in system menu).

I really feel like a PrettyUbuntu app is going to be developed as
EasyUbuntu was developped for hoary ... That's a shame for our "dapper"
release. Luckly, the vista killers will be edgy or edgy+1. Thanks to
Microsoft.

[Bug 44990] Re: gdm background color is inconsistent

2006-05-25 Thread Étienne Bersac
Hello,

obviously, we should drop beige for dapper. I'm not able to find a color
that fit well with black, beige and brown. So i build DarkDapper gdm
theme using the default dapper background quite like OS X does. This is
more consistent. For now, ubuntu has beige only for gdm theme. That is
inconsistent.

A hack should be to xsetroot the dapper background as gdm does not in
order to have a really consistent background from gdm to session. But
that will be very ugly if people change their gdm theme.

Also, the dapper background is really dark. This should look better
enlighted.

would be the right solution.

I already suggest to use beige #D9BB7A.

Setting a consistent background colour would also improve multi screen

[Bug 28798] new logout dialog interface issues

2006-02-09 Thread Étienne Bersac
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/28798

Comment:
Hello,

The purpose of the logout applet is to expose this action to the user.
This is why using a tiny expressive button at the top right corner is
very a good idea.

The problem with the system menu is not that it is a menu but that it is
not expressive enough.

I sugget to deplace the three entry "Lock screen", "Log out" and
"Shutdown" into a tiny popup menu available by clicking the logout
applet. This way, user have one way to log off and you can use one true
look'n'feel for those dialog.

Note also that two pilosophy of popup dialog coexist : the pure Mac OS X
one (system menu) and the pure Windows XP-like with the logout applet.

We should use the Gnomish one popup with few options, icons+text button
(horizontal aligned) and a simple question (without a damned stressing
count down).

About the nature of the icon. I don't think we should use abstract art.
Why not use a more concret representation of sleep (a moon quarter) and
hibernate (a bear hibernating) ?

All of i said are advises, not wishes. Feel free to pick idea and

Hello,

maybe a submenu instead of a popup and a confirmation popup should be
more Mac OS X-like and less ugly. A menu like the avahi/fast-user-switch
applet or quite all Mac OS X's applets.

[Bug 28939] logout applet is a not-so-good idea

Public bug report changed:

Comment:
Hello,

Using this feature, I admit this is not a so-bad-idea :). I'm sorry to
have reported this bug without really considering the usability (only
the beauty).

I thinkt there is something not polished in this domain : the two
different dialog for logout. The one clearly - inspired by the Windows®
logout popup - available by clicking the applet, the others - clearly
inspired by Mac OS® X logout popup - available by clicking the right
option in the System menu.

Those popup should be more similar in order not to have "bastards"
logout popups. This is more an advise than a wish.

Thanks and again : sorry.

Hello,

The Human theme has been greatly improved in the last week. An optinal
theme is shiped (circle of friends). Why not include another optional
theme with face selector ?

Thanks

[Bug 28939] logout applet is a not-so-good idea

2006-01-18 Thread Étienne Bersac
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/28939

Comment:
Hello,

Manu, you're right about the "random click". But where is the logout
button on Windows® ? in the "start menu" ! Where is it on Mac OS X ? on
the "Apple Menu" ! So is it really disturbing to have a logout button in
the "System menu" ?

Logout button is as easy as ever to find on ubuntu. Once the user found
it, it's done. Really, finding the logout button is not a problem.

> so it's not really questionnable :)
I wish I had read the desktop plan before :) And i wish this changes will be
reverted like the switch to nautilus's spatial mode ;-)

Regards.

Hello,

You're right. I remember using this applet long time ago. This applet
behave like the OS 9 menu at the same place of the screen. This
corner better to receive such an applet instead of the logout.

But, in a general way, what do you think about the logout applet ?

Thanks.

[Bug 28939] logout applet is a not-so-good idea

2006-01-18 Thread Étienne Bersac
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/28939

Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Hello,

With flight3 comes a new config of the gnome panel. As this is a good
idea to remove the "help" button which is easily available with "System
> help", I think this is a bad idea to add the "logout" button which
easily available with "System > Logout" or event with power button (on
iMac G3, iBook G4 and somes PC keyboards).

Laptop users usualy just close the screen, so this is not a feature use
by everyone.

Another problem : if the user click by mistake to this applet instead of
date-applet, he'll be surprise to see the logout dialog.

And last but not least, it is really ugly. I talk with some friend and
this seems not to be a attended feature or even a "not so good" idea.

A good replacement will be the "fast-user-switch-applet" with an option
at the end of the menu to logout.

Thanks.
