[Bug 1922414] Re: ssh-agent fails to start (has_option: command not found)

2021-04-08 Thread Achim Settelmeier
As a workaround, I created the file 01x11-has_option (find it attached)
and placed it in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/. It defines has_option unless it
is already defined somewhere else. ssh-agent now runs in the background
on startup again.

[Bug 1922414] Re: ssh-agent fails to start (has_option: command not found)

2021-04-07 Thread Achim Settelmeier
Looks like /etc/X11/Xsession is not executed, but the files in
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/ are sourced somehow. My best guess is that there's
some other mechanism emulating Xsession's behaviour but without defining
has_option.

Maybe this is a pending bug introduced in an earlier version of Ubuntu
that has come to light just now, after has_option has been moved as #3
points out.

BTW: I'm using lightdm with the Arctica Greeter.

[Bug 1608880] [NEW] systemd doesnt work with timed fsck, only with counted mount fsck

2016-08-02 Thread Achim Behrens
Public bug reported:

Updated my homserver from 14.04 to 16.04. Got a "/dev/sda1 will be
fscked on next reboot" hint in the MOTD. Did some reboots and the fsck
never happend. Tried with "sudo touch /forcefsck" but the message didnt
go away. Thought it was an error of the MOTD scripts and tried to fiddle
with them. But it reappeard ever time.

Looked at the syslogs logs and saw the fsck never happend.

Looked at the output from dumpe2fs and it showed several interesting
informations:
 * the mount count was 12 and the maximum mountcount of 34 was not reached
 * the timed fsck date was reached
 * the last fsck was long ago (next confirmation the /forcefsck didnt work at
all)

i changed the mount count to 35 with "sudo tune2fs -C 35 /dev/sda1"
which made the fsck on next reboot.

So what works:
 * mount count fsck on reboot

what doesnt work:
 * setting /forcefsck manually
 * timed fsck

what should work?
 * all 3 of them should work.

[Bug 1545556] Re: ubuntu 16.04: window buttons of gedit are placed on the right side

2016-02-15 Thread Achim Behrens
Ok, with thanks to lotuspsychje who did some testing it seems the issue
is triggered with switching of the "show the menu for one window"
setting in systemsettings->appearance -> theme behaviour.

switching it one time triggers "something" that makes the windowsbuttons
go to the right side no matter what setting is used afterwards.

on a clean install, it is all fine. then one time switching this setting
makes them go to the right forever. even on ambiance theme.

[Bug 1348384] Re: evince and okular do not render eps files correctly resulting in a black background

2014-11-13 Thread Achim Bohnet
So how's fault is it? Is it in scope of libspectre tasks to add a dummy
showpage for eps files? Or have all applications that
use libspectre handle this case themself?

The ubuntu1 ubuntu1.1 diff is here:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/trusty/libspectre

I've subscribed Till Kamppeter to this bug, to get his attention. He
the one that cherry picked the patch.

[Bug 1252262] [NEW] Window auto maximize causes window move mouse anchor to jump

2013-11-18 Thread Achim Schreiber
Public bug reported:

Installation: standard ubuntu 12.04.3 amd64 desktop (bug also seen at 11.10) -
upgrades from 11.10 via network updater.
Seen on both selfmade desktop pc and 2 differnt ASUS laptops (one with fresh
and clean 12.04 installation):
Take your mouse to top window bar to move the window. If you move the window to
screen top (auto-maximize function triggers) and move the window back to normal
area (do this quickly) often the mouse is not anchored at the window top bar
but some centimeters above or sometimes within the window.
Maybe also if you simply quickly move the window.
Seen with different windows (Terminal, Firefox and others) on standard, believe
this is gnome unity?

Walter, that might be a quick solution but it is not very comfortable.
I'm using Clementine instead of Rhythmbox in the meantime, which is a
good alternative in my opinion.

That's why I like Linux: A bug in your favourite tool encourages you to
try out another one. Nevertheless I hope that the gvfs bug will be fixed
soon.

[Bug 868684] Re: vblank counter failed - screen hung

2012-05-14 Thread Achim
As far as I can tell this problem seems to be fixed with the new intel
driver.

xserver-xorg-video-intel:
  Installiert: 2:2.19.0-0ubuntu1~xup1
  Kandidat:2:2.19.0-0ubuntu1~xup1
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 2:2.19.0-0ubuntu1~xup1 0

precise/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages

With the default packages in ubuntu precise I still had failing vblank
counters in my Xorg.0.log

If you take a look at the release notes[1] you can see the following line.
- Prevent waiting on scanlines whilst not in control of the VT and therefore
whilst referencing foreign CRTC configurations.

To my mind this may have solved the problem.
I hope this information is helpful for the others that have this issue.

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or
by checking in Software Center

3) What you expected to happen
If I plug in an external mic the controls of the audio settings should work.

4) What happened instead
I have to close the audio settings and start them again to get the audio
controls working.

I have attached a little video that demonstrates the problem.

[Bug 769642] [NEW] Power Management doesn't recognize Joystick-Input

2011-04-23 Thread Achim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

This evening i played supertuxkart. A little bit longer (as always ;).
Then my monitor got black und went into stand-by mode after the given

the joystick too. Power Management imho should respect that and not
jumping into a game as long as input is present - even from a joystick.

[Bug 651387] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in poll()

2011-04-15 Thread Achim
Maybe i can give some infos: First: My unity crashed. After unity
--reset (still runs in the background) i wanted to open evolution for
copying some relevant infos from the running terminal. Now i opened
Evolution from the launcher, went to memos, created a new one, went
back to the terminal window, marked a section, pressed ctrl-c and right
in this moment evolution crashed. Just in the moment i pressed ctrl-c
in the terminal window. I don't know if it is reproducable, cause im
working on another bug - getting my desktop back first ;)

[Bug 674251] Re: alias gets reset and is not saved for jabber accounts

2010-12-29 Thread Achim
As it seems the problem occurs when I login to my jabber-account from
another computer.

To reproduce the problem you need another PC/Laptop.

1. Login to your jabber/XMPP-account on your PC.
At this point your alias should be like you have set it.
2. Login to your jabber/XMPP-account from another PC/Laptop
If you now take a look at your alias it should have changed.

[Bug 392488] Re: Empathy could use an Ubuntu-specific Adium theme

Thanks for your quick reply Nicolò.

I have changed the size of the avatar to 32px and did a little comparison to
the roster avatar which has the same size.
As you can see, the image in the theme looks pixelated. I think this is because
the image gets resized without any filtering.

[Bug 440831] [NEW] [gnome-disk-utility] Can't create RAID0 because of missing package mdadm

2009-10-02 Thread Achim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

I can't create a RAID0 Array because the package mdadm is not
installed.

This is the error that I get:
Error starting job: Failed to execute child process mdadm (No such file or
directory)

There is no hint, what I should do then, this is not so good for the average
user.
Maybe PackageKit support could be a good solution. There could be an dialog
that could help the user to install mdadm.

Another problem is that during the installation of mdamd, postfix was
also installed which asks question that the average user can't
understand.

The last problem is that I had no permission to write something on may array
that I had finally created.
The only user that had access was root. I was able to change the permission,
but I don't know if everybody is able to do so.

I hope this information is helpful.

Achim

[Bug 368525] Re: Calendar module crash since jaunty update

2009-04-28 Thread Achim Z
After searching through the other Evolutino-Bugs I found a work-around
that worked for me:

in the file /home/.evolution/calender/local/systems/calender.ics
I deleted the last vevent which was a recurring event.

Looking at the other posts, recurring events seem to be the reason why
the Evolution Calender hangs. It seems that calender doesn't crash but
rather waits for something to happen. This would also explain the
futex_wait

Hope this is in some way helpfull.

Thanks for your work!!

2009-03-22 Thread Achim
As it seems this bug isn't a problem of Brasero but rather a problem of
gstreamer-plugins-bad.

As already mentioned in this report, this is the comment from an upstream
Brasero developer.
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=564169#c6

This are the requirements to make the Video Project work.

-ffenc_mpeg2video
-ffenc_ac3
-ffenc_mp2
-mplex

It would be great if the this bug could be resolved before the final
release of Jaunty.

I have an Canon-Pixma-IP5200R and I am also affected by that problem.
I have tested it with the Gutenprint driver and the proprietary Turboprint

The problem exists with both drivers. So my conclusion is that the problem is
driver independent.
I hope that Information is somehow helpful.

If I try to print a pdf that I have created with OpenOffice the picture
(PNG-format) doesn't get printed.
You also doesn't see the picture in the Print Preview.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open PDF with evince
2. file → Print
3. select printer (If you select 'Print to File' the preview works)
4. push Print Preview
5. You shouldn't see the graph.

This is a regression because it doesn't happen with Hardy.

[Bug 295643] [NEW] eog doesn't apply the page-setup

After I have applied the paper settings eog changes the settings to a smaller
paper size.
This problem is not related to the printer driver. I have tested two different
driver.

In the picture that I have attached you can see the settings that I have

[Bug 141227] Re: [Gutsy] blurry menu icons

2007-10-28 Thread Achim
So I don't know why it is a problem to add one line to the
/usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc file and create a new package.
I mean the Human theme is doing the same thing, Why should it be a problem for
the clearlooks theme ?
It would be nice if this could be fixed before Hardy will be release. Because
the clearlooks-engine is much faster then the ubuntu-looks-engine.
So clearlooks is my favourite engine.

This is how the beginning of the Human gtkrc-file looks.
/usr/share/themes/Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
#
# Ubuntu Human Colorscheme
#
# Authors:
# Richard Stellingwerff [EMAIL PROTECTED]
# Daniel Borgmann [EMAIL PROTECTED]
# Billy Cantrell [EMAIL PROTECTED]
#
# Feel free to modify and share!

gtk-icon-sizes = panel-menu=24,24

style clearlooks-default
{
#

This is the line (gtk-icon-sizes = panel-menu=24,24) which will be added to
the /usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc file.

I have created a diff. I am not sure if it is the right way but it works for me.

Just copy the attached patch to your user directory for examle
/home/username/

start a terminal and type sudo -s

and copy the following line to the terminal.

sudo cat gtkrc.patch | patch /usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

It should look like this.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# sudo cat gtkrc.patch | patch
/usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
patching file /usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~#

now you have to reload the theme. You can do this by choosing another
theme and switch back to clearlooks.

So let me know if it works for you.

Best wishes
Achim

[Bug 141227] Re: [Gutsy] blurry menu icons

2007-10-28 Thread Achim
So then we need a bug report which is related to the human-icon-theme
(Ubuntu)

I have attached a screenshot where you can see on the left side standard humen
theme with humen-icon-theme.
On the right side you can see the clearlooks theme in combination with the
humen-icon-theme.

As everybody can see the human-icon-theme is partly blurry.

Then we have to say that the human-icon-theme is incomplete or something like
that.
I have restarted the computer to be sure that everything is out of the cache.
(If somebody wants to test this problem he should also do.)

Don't get me wrong, I only want a good solution.

Best wishes
achim

[Bug 141227] Re: [Gutsy] blurry menu icons

2007-10-28 Thread Achim
So I don't want to get on your nerves, but isn't it a normal thing that
pixel based pictures (icons in png-format) get blurry if they get
shrinked.

So why is this problem related to GTK?
And why is the human theme using the workaround and the clearlooks theme
isn't allowed to use it?

Maybe someone can explain me what I am getting wrong.

best wishes
Achim
