[Bug 1711936] Re: Severe graphical corruption in gnome-shell with nouveau [Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS]

There is still corruption when coming out of suspend. It doesn't affect
anything other than the desktop background though.

[Bug 1714797] [NEW] Pressing eject button in Gnome Files displays message that internal DVD-ROM drive can be removed

2017-09-03 Thread Alex Jones
Public bug reported:

Pressing the eject button (in the Gnome Files user interface, not the
physical button on the drive) for an internal SATA DVD-ROM drive causes
a message to appear that the drive can be removed. After this, the drive
is no longer accessible from within Gnome Files until the computer is
rebooted.

Proprietary driver (as well as simply disabling Wayland and using X with

This is on a Dell XPS M1330 laptop with Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS, 8 GB

[Bug 787777] [NEW] Can't seek when playing MPEG layer 2 and layer 3 audio files

2011-05-24 Thread Alex Jones
Public bug reported:

Totem can't seek at all when playing MPEG Layer 2 or MPEG Layer 3 audio
files. Strangely, layer 1 files seek properly, as do some layer 3 files.
The attachment is a collection of sample files in all three formats,
plus the lossless original. The audio I used is from the CELT codec test
site. The layer 3 file in this archive plays properly, but some other
layer 3 files don't. If I find one that doesn't work that can be
distributed freely I'll upload it.

[Bug 258672] Re: Newer movies from Apple.com won't play

2008-08-16 Thread Alex Jones
I installed Totem with the Xine backend and removed the one with the
Gstreamer backend and now the movies on Apple.com play correctly. I
think the Xine backend should be the default. I have used Xine for many
years. Never fails.

[Bug 258672] [NEW] Newer movies from Apple.com won't play

2008-08-16 Thread Alex Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

This is probably caused by the extremely old version of ffmpeg that
Ubuntu uses. It is more than a year outdated. I have also seen many
other videos, especially h.264 files and Windows Media Video files that
have artifacts. The artifacts are not present under other distributions
such as Slackware (using Xine). By the way, I am using Ubuntu 8.04 with
the latest versions of all packages, including the proposed updates.

bug.

[Bug 175748] Re: Metacity enters text in the 'quick search' field instead of 'Name' when running 'Save As...'

2007-12-11 Thread Alex Jones
Thomas, that's not the problem.

i think they're claiming that if you have the "Browse for other
folders" expander open when the file selector comes up, the default keyboard
focus is in the folder view, not the name entry
i just tested this, it's true
keyboard focus moves from the name entry to the folder view

You can visually see this happening. If you close the expander, the next
time you invoke this dialogue the keyboard focus will stay in the name
entry, as expected.

[Bug 175682] GNOME rarely starts from GDM in Hardy

2007-12-11 Thread Alex Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

About 90% of the time when logging in from GDM, gnome-session hangs.

I don't get any GNOME programs running, just a cursor and a blank, light
brown background.

If I choose "Failsafe GNOME", the same happens, though for a few days
this seemed to work.

I have cleaned my session, and I have even tried this with newly created
users, and the same thing happens.

The only way I can get it to work is by using a "Failsafe Terminal"
session and launching gnome-session from that.

Most of the time, this method works, but on rare occasions this method
hangs in the same way, too. I can simply just kill it and try again in
the same terminal and it will work.

I have a stack trace from what happens when it hangs:

[Bug 175586] Epiphany/Liferea no longer honours "Document Font" setting

2007-12-11 Thread Alex Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

Launchpad and Wikipedia seem to be using Arial when they would
previously use whatever I had selected as my "Document Font" in my
desktop font settings.

Seems to affect gtkmozembed maybe, as Liferea is defaulting to a 8pt
Times New Roman-style font.

This started happening within the last week of Hardy updates, I think.

[Bug 175164] Rhythmbox's window does not remember its on-screen position when unhiding from status icon

Public bug reported:

Click RB icon in status icon area to hide the window
Click it again to unhide it

The window is placed at (0, 0), instead of wherever it was when it was

[Bug 163609] Initialising MTP plugin takes a long time; probably doesn't even work

2007-11-18 Thread Alex Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

If I enable the "Portable Players - MTP" plugin, I see this in an
strace, repeated thousands and thousands of times. The UI hangs until it
decides it has had enough, then the plugin is "active". I have no idea
if it actually works, as I don't own an MTP device.

This behaviour also happens when starting up Rhythmbox with the MTP
plugin active. It takes tens of seconds to start up as a result.

gettimeofday({1195406122, 113969}, NULL) = 0
writev(17, [{"l\1\0\1\22\0\0\0\\f\0\0\247\0\0\0\1\1o\0*\0\0\0/org/fr"..., 184},
{"\r\0\0\0usb.vendor_id\0", 18}], 2) = 202
gettimeofday({1195406122, 114187}, NULL) = 0
poll([{fd=17, events=POLLIN, revents=POLLIN}], 1, 25000) = 1
read(17, "l\3\1\1[\0\0\0X\315\1\0]\0\0\0\6\1s\0\5\0\0\0:1.72\0\0"..., 2048) =
203
read(17, 0x8c9a9e0, 2048) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily
unavailable)

Disabling the MTP plugin alleviates the problem.

[Bug 145004] Implement GtkExpander styling (Code, Screenshot)

2007-09-25 Thread Alex Jones
Public bug reported:

I've implemented some nice GtkExpander styling, based on the default
implementation in GTK, but looking much nicer.

I'm using 50% opaque foreground colour for normal colouring, and 100%
opaque foreground colour for prelight. This gives a really nice effect.

Can we get this into Gutsy please?
