[Bug 848833] [NEW] Multitouch support in evince is half-baked

2011-09-13 Thread Alexander Hunziker
Public bug reported:

I am using an Apple Magic Trackpad with my Ubuntu system (Oneiric Beta
1). Evince seems to recognise some gestures, but even basic
functionality is not working properly.

* Scrolling with a two-finger gesture works, but there is a lag each
time before scrolling actually starts, i.e. one starts the gesture, and
only half a second or a second later the scrolling starts on the screen.
This happens with both my internal touchpad, as well as the external
Apple bluetooth trackpad.

* Rotating works, however the zoom level changes in an unpredictable
way. In fact, after repeated rotating, my document is as small as a
stamp!

* Zooming gestures are recognised, but the screen is not redrawn. Only
after clicking and scrolling in the UI, the document is shown at the new
size.

Indeed I am using the gnome-shell session. I don't quite see why that is
related to the session type though -- gnome-control-center is the same,
isn't it?

[Bug 844864] [NEW] Should depend on cups-pk-helper

2011-09-08 Thread Alexander Hunziker
Public bug reported:

In oneiric, I was not able to add or remove printers in gnome-control-
center, because the respective buttons were greyed out. I then figured
out that I had to install cups-pk-helper in order to make the unlock
button in the top right appear. I guess gnome-control-center should
depend on that package, or else the printing capplet really doesn't
serve any purpose.

On oneiric, I cannot open the file properties dialog in nautilus, it
always hangs upon showing the dialog and has to be killed.

I attached the hung nautilus to a gdb session and got a backtrace, hope
that helps:

sitting inactive for a while, and I tried to switch to another message.
I will let you know if it happens again, else that's all we have.

In fact, now (as of beta1), it's even worse/irritating:

When I use the keyboard to adjust brightness, that works, but is
presumable handled by the machine itself/BIOS. However, at each
keystroke, the ibus tray icon changes it's visibility from hidden to
shown and back.

When I use Firefox to listen to Swiss DRS3 radio (www.drs3.ch, then

using the totem plugin, but I can't hear anything, because in
pulseaudio's mixer, the channel for the totem plugin is on the minimum
position. after increasing that slider in the volume control, i can hear
the radio.

[Bug 409363] Re: totem crashed with signal 5 in g_object_unref()

2009-10-11 Thread Alexander Hunziker
A little update to this issue. on an updated Karmic machine as of
October 11 2009, this does not crash totem anymore.

The mp4 stream actually works fine.

The h.264 stream doesn't work (does not start playing), but totem stays
responsive.

...not sure what I should set the status of this bug to?

[Bug 415397] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in strchr()

Pedro,

it is "reproducible" in that it happened again. But it's reproducible in
a sense that I have to keep it in the tray for a day and wait until it
crashes. If you can think of a debugging strategy, I'll be happy to try.

[Bug 411787] [NEW] Full screen mode does not work with Compiz.

2009-08-10 Thread Alexander Hunziker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

In the f-spot 0.6.0.0 build uploaded on August 10 to Ubuntu Karmic, and
with Compiz enabled, the full screen mode does not work for me. If I
click on Fullscreen, I can see in the window list on the Gnome Panel,
that a window is created, and I can even see the fullscreen toolbar in
the bottom of the screen, but it is translucent. The picture itself is
not drawn.

[Bug 329631] Re: Please update ekiga to version 3.0.2

2009-03-01 Thread Alexander Hunziker
3.1.0 (a beta) is out, with plans to release 3.2.0 (stable) along with
Gnome 2.26. Packaging 3.1 early might simplify getting 3.2 into Jaunty
along with the rest of Gnome 2.26.

Furthermore, the Codec selection in the current package in Jaunty is
rather limited - especially lacking are h263 and h264 from the video
codecs. Version 3.2 adds new, higher quality audio codecs.

OK, sorry, I misunderstood the purpose of the applet. I still think
thought that it would be nice to have a simple way to inhibit not just
suspend, but also the screensaver. I know people who use PowerPoint in a

server doesn't notice that the mouse is used and suddenly the
screensaver kicks in.

[Bug 250475] [NEW] gnome-display-properties allows turning all screens off

2008-07-21 Thread Alexander Hunziker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

The tool gnome-display-properties allows one to turn all screens off.
That's dangerous, because one (at least average user) has no possibility
to interact with the machine anymore. I think it should at least pop up
a dialogue asking the user whether he really wants to turn all screens
off. The problem is that even cold rebooting doesn't help, because those
settings seem to be written to disk (~/.gnome2/monitors.xml).

[Bug 116990] Re: Rhythmbox sound problems (clicking/snapping/crackling) when not using crossfading backend

2007-10-10 Thread Alexander Hunziker
This issue does *not* really have a workaround, because enabling the
crossfading backend can trigger other bugs. See Launchpad bug 149389 and
upstream bugs. Either or should really be fixed. Besides RB 0.11.x is an
unstable series.

[Bug 111273] Re: Ekiga needs Codec G.711, G.726 and G.729 for sparvoip.de (voipbuster.com)

2007-10-05 Thread Alexander Hunziker
In the build for Gutsy, PCMA/PCMU (=G.711) and G726 are present, and it
seems G729 won't ever be. So this is as fixed as it will ever be and can
be closed i guess.

yet on an up2date gutsy this still happens to me. do i missunderstand

[Bug 147692] Some tracks have cracking

2007-10-01 Thread Alexander Hunziker
Public bug reported:

See upstream bug http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436192

Some Ogg Vorbis file have a cracking noise when played back with the
non-crossfading backend in rhythmbox 0.11.x.

Just defaulting on the crossfading isn't a solution either, as with this
one I experience other problems, such as Radio not working or two tracks
playing at the same time.

I would suggest downgrading Rhythmbox to the stable 0.10 series for
Gutsy.

[Bug 147622] deskbar-applet crashes when beagle-live backend is enabled

2007-10-01 Thread Alexander Hunziker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: deskbar-applet

Enable the beagle-live backend and perform a search with deskbar, it
will crash. That's on an up2date Gusty.

This seems to be resolved upstream, see bug

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2007-09-04 Thread Alexander Hunziker
Maybe the Ubuntu dev team could check with the Nautilus developers how
high on their agenda implementing XdndDirectSave is. If they reckon it's
unlikely they have this ready for Gnome 2.22, then an alternative
strategy might be to revert to the DnD Code of the older FileRoller
versions?

2007-07-08 Thread Alexander Hunziker
I'm now using the latest Ekiga (2.0.9) from the Ekiga website. There I
have the following codecs:

Speex, iLBC, GSM, MS-GSM, PCMU, PCMA, G726-16k, G721, LPC

*not* available are G711 and G729

2007-06-07 Thread Alexander Hunziker
Anyway it seems Ubuntu doesn't ship all Codecs that Ekiga supports? At
least on the screenshots on the ekiga site, more codecs are shown than
available on my system. Can a dev please comment on that?

[Bug 101853] deskbar applet's beagle backend sends wrong URI's to application

2007-04-16 Thread Alexander Hunziker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I use deskbar to search for files with beagle, it lists the results
correctly. When I click on it, it opens the right application but passes
an invalid path to it. For example, evince complains that:

The hostname of the URI
'file://file%3A///home/hunzikea/Uni/NBI/Articles/0609042.pdf' is invalid

[Bug 71476] Re: Video scaling in totem is unclean

2006-12-14 Thread Alexander Hunziker
I was an Arch Linux user before. I cannot find anything in their build

[Bug 71476] Re: Video scaling in totem is unclean

2006-12-12 Thread Alexander Hunziker
Indeed:

gst-launch-0.10 filesrc location=/home/hunzikea/Videos/Flower.avi !
avidemux ! xviddec ! ffmpegcolorspace ! videoscale method=1 ! ximagesink

does the trick. compare with videoscale method=0.
make the opened window fullscreen to see the difference. attach the videofile
for comparison purposes, but should work w/ any video.

[Bug 71476] Re: Video scaling in totem is unclean

2006-12-12 Thread Alexander Hunziker
Looks exactly the same.

gst-inspect-0.10 videoscale contains the following (end of output):

Element Properties:
name: The name of the object
flags: readable, writable
String. Default: null Current: "videoscale0"
  qos : handle QoS messages
flags: readable, writable
Boolean. Default: false Current: true
  method : method
flags: readable, writable
Enum "GstVideoScaleMethod" Current: 0,
"nearest-neighbour"
   0) nearest-neighbour - Nearest Neighbour
   1) bilinear - Bilinear

so i guess the default for "method" is on 0 instead of 1.
