[Bug 194496] Re: [users-admin] Unlock - Could not authenticate. An unexpected error has occurred.

2009-01-18 Thread Andrew Pam
I have the same problem. After upgrading from Dapper to Hardy, I can't
use any admin tools even after checking /etc/hosts and adding my
username to the admin and polkituser groups in /etc/group and
/etc/gshadow. I always get Could not authenticate. An unexpected error
has occurred. when using the graphical tools, and the following appears
on the console:

** (users-admin:9736): CRITICAL **: Did not receive a reply. Possible
causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message
bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the
network connection was broken.

Note: All hardy updates are installed, so if this is Fix released it
certainly hasn't helped me.

But Dunedin and Williamstown ARE included in the list. If they are not
supported by gweather, then they should be removed from the list.

Thanks for your bug. If you remove the applet, run /usr/lib/gnome-

No. /usr/lib/gnome-applets/gweather-applet-2 just exits silently when
the weather report applet crashes. However, I do get a bug-buddy window
and was able to save the attached backtrace.

[Bug 54132] weather-report applet crashes when no Internet available

2006-07-26 Thread Andrew Pam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

If the weather-report Gnome applet is started when no Internet access is
available, or if the Internet becomes unavailable while the applet is
running, it always crashes. This occurs in both Breezy and Dapper,
including the current weather-report version 2.14.2. See also bug
#39706.

 Importance: Untriaged
 Status: Unconfirmed

I have the same problem with weather report 2.14.2 in Dapper, and also
previously in Breezy. I do not get a bug-buddy dialog, just a dialog
asking if I want to restart it. I do not have accessibility features
enabled. See also bug #54132 (reported against gnome-applets, and

Do you know if the weather report has ever worked for this city?

No, I normally use Australia/Melbourne which works fine, and have tested
some other cities. I'm in Dunedin for linux.conf.au and wanted local
weather; it has not worked the entire time I've been here (since Monday
23 Jan 2006).
