[Bug 2000743] Re: kinetic: UI unresponsive while disk op dialog showing.
Just updated to 23.04 and this behavior is gone. Now when I click another window while the pie-chart dialog is showing, it dismisses the dialog. Kinda weird it needs to dismiss prior to changing windows (because it takes one more click to actually switch windows) but much better behavior than before. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2000743 Title: kinetic: UI unresponsive while disk op dialog showing. [Bug 2000743] Re: kinetic: UI unresponsive while disk op dialog showing.
One more video showing how the dialog dominates the UI. In the video I open a terminal and put a sleep (so I can setup the UI dialog) in front of executing google-chrome as a simple example. At the end of the video, the UI is still locked up but you can see the copy dialog not behind the new window but the rest of the file browser is. ** Attachment added: "PXL_20230413_195725415.TS.mp4" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/2000743/+attachment/5663730/+files/PXL_20230413_195725415.TS.mp4 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2000743 Title: kinetic: UI unresponsive while disk op dialog showing. [Bug 2000743] Re: kinetic: UI unresponsive while lengthy disk operations complete.
There wasn't any activity noticeable in top and no updates from the journalctl command. I've attached a video demonstrating it is really just about the dialog displayed. Even dismissing, switching programs to show the UI is responsive, then showing the PI chart dialog again (before it times out and disappears) recreates the UI problem. ** Attachment added: "PXL_20230413_170853766.TS.mp4" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/2000743/+attachment/5663674/+files/PXL_20230413_170853766.TS.mp4 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2000743 Title: kinetic: UI unresponsive while lengthy disk operations complete. [Bug 1945609] [NEW] openvpn don't switch to fallback
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS (5.11.0-34-generic #36~20.04.1-Ubuntu) without any extra packages installed, the following event occured : In the OpenVPN client config file, we have two servers (remote foo.bar 1194 udp, remote foo2.bar 1194 udp). We imported this config file in the Network-Manager's GUI and then we started the OpenVPN client (again via the GUI). When connected (from an external network), we started a simple ping to check the connectivity to the remote network. Then, we completely disconnected the first remote server (foo.bar), and logically the VPN client should have reconnected to the "foo2.bar" server, AKA the fallback server. But, after more than 10 minutes, the connection is still non- reestablished (although the default value of the connect-timeout parameter is 120s). The GUI was acting like the connection is still up, although the remote VPN network was unreachable. We had to manually turn off the VPN client on the GUI and turn on again to reconnect (it took a very long time because it first tried to connect to the offline VPN server). If we launch the VPN client in command line, the fail-over works perfectly. The command used in CLI is simply : `sudo openvpn config.ovpn` The version of the packages are the following: network-manager/focal-updates,now 1.22.10-1ubuntu2.2 amd64 network-manager-openvpn-gnome/focal,now 1.8.12-1 amd64 network-manager-openvpn/focal,now 1.8.12-1 amd64 openvpn/focal-updates,now 2.4.7-1ubuntu2.20.04.3 amd64 Thank's in advance for lookin into this! The errors I'm receiving are related to tweener.js so I'm updating this bug report instead of opening a new one: Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: == Stack trace for context 0x563d75ef0320 == Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #0 0x563d7630cc58 i resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/background.js:718 (0x7f307c30f450 @ 22) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #1 0x563d7630cbd0 i resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/tweener.js:113 (0x7f307c6c7e68 @ 37) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #2 0x7fffc43b9710 b resource:///org/gnome/gjs/modules/tweener/tweener.js:208 (0x7f307c6d3b38 @ 54) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #3 0x7fffc43b9860 b resource:///org/gnome/gjs/modules/tweener/tweener.js:337 (0x7f307c6d3bc0 @ 1626) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #4 0x7fffc43b9910 b resource:///org/gnome/gjs/modules/tweener/tweener.js:350 (0x7f307c6d3c48 @ 100) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #5 0x7fffc43b99a0 b resource:///org/gnome/gjs/modules/tweener/tweener.js:365 (0x7f307c6d3cd0 @ 10) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #6 0x7fffc43b9a90 b resource:///org/gnome/gjs/modules/signals.js:128 (0x7f307c6d3230 @ 386) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #7 0x7fffc43b9b40 b resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/tweener.js:245 (0x7f307c6cf808 @ 159) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #8 0x7fffc43b9ba0 I resource:///org/gnome/gjs/modules/_legacy.js:82 (0x7f307c6b5de0 @ 71) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #9 0x7fffc43b9c40 b resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/tweener.js:220 (0x7f307c6cf780 @ 15) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: == Stack trace for context 0x563d75ef0320 == Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #0 0x563d7630cc58 i resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/background.js:718 (0x7f307c30f450 @ 22) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #1 0x563d7630cbd0 i resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/tweener.js:113 (0x7f307c6c7e68 @ 37) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #2 0x7fffc43b9710 b resource:///org/gnome/gjs/modules/tweener/tweener.js:208 (0x7f307c6d3b38 @ 54) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #3 0x7fffc43b9860 b resource:///org/gnome/gjs/modules/tweener/tweener.js:337 (0x7f307c6d3bc0 @ 1626) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #4 0x7fffc43b9910 b resource:///org/gnome/gjs/modules/tweener/tweener.js:350 (0x7f307c6d3c48 @ 100) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #5 0x7fffc43b99a0 b resource:///org/gnome/gjs/modules/tweener/tweener.js:365 (0x7f307c6d3cd0 @ 10) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #6 0x7fffc43b9a90 b resource:///org/gnome/gjs/modules/signals.js:128 (0x7f307c6d3230 @ 386) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #7 0x7fffc43b9b40 b resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/tweener.js:245 (0x7f307c6cf808 @ 159) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #8 0x7fffc43b9ba0 I resource:///org/gnome/gjs/modules/_legacy.js:82 (0x7f307c6b5de0 @ 71) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast org.gnome.Shell.desktop[3972]: #9 0x7fffc43b9c40 b resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/tweener.js:220 (0x7f307c6cf780 @ 15) Aug 8 10:47:46 thebeast gnome-shell[3972]: Object Meta.Background (0x563d7826ce90), has been already deallocated - impossible to access to it. [Bug 1035221] Re: xdg-open/gnome-open opens blank firefox
For me, this was caused by my custom .desktop file. I downloaded Firefox, unpacked it to my home and created a .desktop file for it in ~/.local/share/applicaitons as so: #!/usr/bin/env xdg-open [Desktop Entry] Version=1.0 Type=Application Terminal=false Icon[en_US]=firefox Name[en_US]=Firefox latest Exec=/home/local/ANT/naddeo/firefox/firefox Comment[en_US]=Firefox directly from tgz Name=Firefox latest Comment=Firefox directly from tgz Icon=firefox The issue was caused by my Exec line. I had to update it to this: Exec=/home/local/ANT/naddeo/firefox/firefox %u Then external link clicks starting working again. I found that out by looking at the .desktop file that the Firefox in the ubuntu repos uses at /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop and copying that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to libgnome in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1035221 Title: xdg-open/gnome-open opens blank firefox To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgnome/+bug/1035221/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: In Nautilus (or "Files", or whatever it's actually called), whenever I unmount a partition by clicking the eject icon a message appears saying "You can now unplug {partition name}". [Bug 486154] Re: System beep broken in Karmic despite heroic efforts to fix it
Hi all, It is six years later and this exact problem is back with Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus. I unblacklisted pcspkr and loaded the module, plus the overwhelming multitude of other steps. The "beep" command works and "echo blahblah | wall" also works, "but echo -e '\a'" and "printf '\a'" do nothing, nor does the rubout or other keys in terminal and Gedit. I've never submitted a bug before, but I'll try now and reference this bug so we can benefit from all your hard work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/486154 Title: System beep broken in Karmic despite heroic efforts to fix it To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/metacity/+bug/486154/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Hate to say this, but the upgrade to 1:3.18.3-1ubuntu3 the otherday has INTRODUCED a similar bug for me on Ubuntu 16.04 64bit in Gnome fallback metacity session: didn't run across this bug before. Closing any window (or even closing a save as dialogue etc) crashes all windows in the session and falls back to login. [Bug 1262505] Re: Brasero writes slow when 'Maximum Speed' set for DVD disc
Same problem for me. Maximum speed burns at 1.5x - 2.5x continuously fluctuating up then down. I switched the DVD burner and tried 4 DVDs with the same result. Worse yet, manually choosing write speed gives me the options of 4x, 2 identical options of 8x, and 2 identical options of 16x. I randomly chose one of the 8x options and again, same slow result. K3b burned an entire DVD in a little over 5 minutes, achieving 16x which it auto selected, which means the troubleshooting aims straight at Brasero. Brasero was great before, but something changed. ISO images appear to burn normally, at least my last image burn was okay about a month ago. But making a data DVD was terribly slow. Info: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS DVD disk type: Kodak DVD-R (Ksb burn it with no problems) Burners: 1) Hitachi/LG GSA-H60N 16x DVD±RW DL SATA Drive 2) Hitachi-LG GH10N SATA 16X Multi Recorder DVD+R DL DVD-RW Drive LGE-DMGH12L(B) Attempted to create data DVD with .avi and .mp4 video files -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to brasero in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1262505 Title: Brasero writes slow when 'Maximum Speed' set for DVD disc To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1262505/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1131571] Re: Nautilus properties window "Content" number continuously counting
I have several, various machines using Ubuntu at different stages for over two years, and they all have had this problem. If a 'Report System Problem' pop-up occurred there would be more reports, but it loops instead of crashing or outputting an error: typically you eventually click "close" and it quits like nothing happened. This loop occurs with large NTFS file systems containing many files ans subdirectories, say 20GB+ and 20,000+ files. I can sometimes get around it by accessing the parent directory properties, but that includes "system volume information" and recycling and any other unwanted directories. Right-clicking properties is much simpler than using the command line so I hope this gets fixed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1131571 Title: Nautilus properties window "Content" number continuously counting To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/1131571/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1292113] Re: CTRL+ALT+T - shortcut to open Terminal is does not work
I get this from time to time as well and it gets frustrating. I can resolve the issue by restarting lightdm (or rebooting), but it is frustrating as hell as I'm heavily dependent on that shortcut. For instance, I currently have 6 VM's running on my laptop and right now have to shut them down just to get this shortcut back. [Bug 1239260] [NEW] Set transparent parts of images to white by default, not 'check pattern'.
Public bug reported: If you download an image off say, Wikipedia, it's probably a .png. When this comes to your computer and you open it with eog, by default it will have a horrible checkered pattern on it (because the background for these images is 'transparent') and this checkered pattern makes things totally unreadable (e.g. chemistry reaction mechanisms). The solution is to view the image with eog and go to Edit - Preferences and set the transparent parts to be a custom colour (white) to have a white background. I propose that by default, the transparent parts should be set to appear white so images get a nice, standard white background which makes things LEGIBLE rather than the current checkered style which isn't helping anyone. (What a nightmare for users trying to open a PNG and being met by a checkered pattern that they swear wasn't there when they downloaded it. I went through quite some time wondering if i should convert the PNG to another format like SVG to get rid of it, but the problem is on the image viewing end, not the image itself. I shudder to think how many people have hit this problem but not known what to do and given up.) ** Affects: eog (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to eog in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1239260 Title: Set transparent parts of images to white by default, not 'check pattern'. Small update. https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-langpack/+archive/ppa builds the latest language translations twice a week into this ppa and then they get pushed to each ubuntu 'backports' directory on the server, according to an agreed on schedule (which didn't look very clear cut to me at 1 in the morning XD) Long story short - the changes i've made will come much sooner than i thought, you can add that ppa and update anytime after the next package version is built there (which could be in the next few days!?) and you'll never be bothered by this again ...in ubuntu lol (I hope this bug doesn't linger on for those who don't use launchpad to organise their translations!) ** Changed in: gnome-system-monitor (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-monitor in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1205087 Title: Gnome-system-monitor needs translation item 19 Sent to read Sending instead. [Bug 144334] Re: Rythmbox should scan for new music on start by default
As it is, adding files to /Music (the default Music checking location) and then opening Rhythmbox DOES get them discovered by default now. I'm pretty sure this has been the case for a while now. Having an option available to decide whether or not to do this scanning for new files added on rhythmbox startup is miles better than having no choice in the matter. I would strongly advise against removing customisability. With the desired behaviour already implemented by default and suggesting removal the option of the ability to change this behaviour, i move that this bug is invalid. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/144334 Title: Rythmbox should scan for new music on start by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/144334/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 655278] Re: It should be more clear that Shotwell maintains its own Trash
I too would like to see them unified. In the meantime, however, i'm currently correcting these strings for en_GB, en_CA and en_AU. We call the bin on the desktop the Rubbish Bin (this is true for en_gb, i'm not sure how much it spread from our team's work), and i've tweaked shotwell to have its bin be called Shotwell's Bin (which is reasonably short and to the point). These updates will be in Saucy by default and the other series releases when their lang packs are updated. Should you wish to have your lang pack updated before this, there is a ppa updated regularly which can be added with: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-langpack/ppa and updating and upgrading. This bug may be consideredhalf done. This will no longer be an issue for (most? all?) english locale users once the lang packs update, but the route cause of the problem means that shotwell must get rid of it's bin and send deleted images to the default bin. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to shotwell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/655278 Title: It should be more clear that Shotwell maintains its own Trash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/655278/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 655278] Re: It should be more clear that Shotwell maintains its own Trash
its* yikes, my spelling tonight. That should do it on my end. The majority of english locale users are on en_GB, en_CA or en_AU (i'm not even sure if there are translation teams on launchpad to handle the rest?) so now australian and british users can look forward to Shotwell's Bin and Canadian users Shotwell's Trash (i'm sure 'garbage' might have been more appropriate but this is a stop gap measure for the time being). Canadian english translations really don't get a lot of TLC, but en_CA locale users are welcome to take a more direct role if they want more ideal phrasing.

[Bug 1196816] Re: Card Reader - Realtek [0bda:0129] was detected as an removable USB device
Thanks Po-Hsu for confirming, I will set the linux task as Invalid as this is not a kernel issue. For the problem that USB drive icon is shown instead of media card, it is probably gvfs that controls it. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Low = Undecided ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Assignee: Anthony Wong (anthonywong) = (unassigned) ** Also affects: gvfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: gvfs (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1196816 Title: Card Reader - Realtek [0bda:0129] was detected as an removable USB device To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1196816/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
