[Bug 1587154] Re: --working-directory does not work anymore

2024-08-02 Thread Benjamin La Madrid
The --help command isn't very clear about this, but the feature does
work when you put the "--working-directory" option BEFORE AN EXPLICIT "
--window" option.

However, the tilde "~" symbol may or may not work, depending on the
environment where the terminal is launched from. For example, I wanted
to open a terminal at my home's desktop folder using a keyboard
shortcut. I found that my window manager's keyboard shortcuts settings
does not parse the tilde correctly, so my workaround was this:

gnome-terminal --working-directory=/home/USERNAME/desktop --window

Replacing USERNAME with the username of my own.

I hope this clears the confusion for all gnome-terminal users hereon. It
does work, it just has some quirks to it.

about the stack trace being logged with lower severity than error.

Will the logged stack trace be logged as error if there is a JavaScript

[Bug 2041680] [NEW] Stack trace not included in GNOME Shell crash report in JournalErrors

5. Show details

The JournalErrors does not contain the stack trace, but now I found it

[Bug 458331] Re: time-admin doesn't have Brazil's official time zone

2023-01-05 Thread Benjamin Drung
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

As of tzdata 2022g there are following timezones of Brazil:

America/Noronha
America/Belem
America/Santarem
America/Fortaleza
America/Recife
America/Araguaina
America/Maceio
America/Bahia
America/Sao_Paulo
America/Campo_Grande
America/Cuiaba
America/Porto_Velho
America/Boa_Vista
America/Manaus
America/Eirunepe
America/Rio_Branco

See https://data.iana.org/time-zones/tz-link.html for details about the
naming. Quote from there: "Timezones are typically identified by
continent or ocean and then by the name of the largest city within the
region containing the clocks."

This kind of change must be done via the upstream project instead of
only in Ubuntu. Please contact upstream via the t...@iana.org mailing
list. Expect them to ask for evidence. Having Brasília time publicly
used might convince them to change this timezone name.

I am marking this bug as "Won't Fix" (as in not deviating from the
upstream naming) for the Ubuntu tzdata package. Upstream changes will
trickle down to Ubuntu.

[Bug 1842439] Re: apport-gtk crashed with SIGSEGV in _gtk_settings_get_screen(settings=0x0)

2022-06-29 Thread Benjamin Drung
Looking at the stack trace, there is pygi_callable_info_invoke (source:
pygobject) -> pygi_invoke_c_callable (source: pygobject) ->
gtk_builder_add_from_file (source: gtk+3.0) -> _gtk_settings_get_screen
(source: gtk+3.0)

To fix this bug in apport, gtk_builder_add_from_file should raise an
Exception. So I mark gtk+3.0 as affected.

2022-03-13 Thread Benjamin Cserveny

How can I change from Wayland to Xorg if it doesn't appear as an option

seem to find any alternative ways of doing so.

[Bug 162000] Re: Cannot use Ctrl-Tab as keyboard shortcut in gnome-terminal

2021-09-02 Thread Benjamin Melançon
The solution in comment 13
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
terminal/+bug/162000/comments/13 and is a godsend and is justifiably
popular on Ask Ubuntu stackexchange:
https://askubuntu.com/a/875482/95056

Most people, i am sure, just suffer without the most sensible shortcuts
for switching tabs. Would be excellent to add this to Gnome or work
around it proactively.

[Bug 1874567] Re: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape

2020-08-02 Thread Benjamin Jacob Reji
Regarding bug mentioned in Side note 2 of
#20 Comment
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1874567/comments/20)

I face the same issue, and am able to fix it via the fractional scaling method.
I was able to reproduce this over two separate clean installs on my machine.

Also following #20 comment helped solved the display rotating issue.
Thank you devs for the fix.
Regards

Issue has a patch, so wondering: What are the decision criteria for
bringing the patch into 18.04, perhaps backports? Does it have to happen

[Bug 1828664] [NEW] Broken link in theme directory

2019-05-11 Thread Benjamin Tegge
Public bug reported:

I'm using the communitheme and gnome-characters snap on Ubuntu 18.04
which broke at some point about two month ago. Screenshots are here:
https://askubuntu.com/q/1142291/40581

I found that ~/snap/gnome-characters/current/themes is a broken link
even when removing the respective snap folder for the app, removing and
then reinstalling the gnome-characters snap. This has worked before,
please take a look at this.

In the meant time i fixed this with the following commands, according
the the error message:

rm ~/snap/gnome-characters/current/.themes
cp -av /snap/communitheme/current/share/themes
~/snap/gnome-characters/current/.themes

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2019-04-25 Thread Benjamin Burns
I believe that I managed to fix this on my machine. I'd suggest to
anyone having this issue to check for and uninstall any workspace-
related extensions in gnome-tweaks. Read on for more detail.

This problem appeared for me after updating to 19.04 from 18.10. Like
everyone else, I could click on items in the top bar (date/time, dock
icons) and they would respond as expected, but applications weren't
responding to keyboard or mouse input.

It seemed that pressing the super key was triggering this, as things
would work more or less fine until the application switcher overlay
thing was shown.

After reading through this thread and seeing a lot of mentions of
workspace extensions I remembered that I'd enabled the Workspace Grid
extension via gnome-tweaks. Loading gnome-tweaks showed a warning
indicator next to this extension, with a mouseover tooltip that read
something to the effect of "problem loading extension." After removing
this extension, things seem to work fine.

Also worth mentioning that the issue was present when running under both
Wayland and XOrg.

[Bug 1748450] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGTRAP in _g_log_abort() from g_log_default_handler() from default_log_handler(message="Connection to xwayland lost") from g_logv() from g_log() from

2019-01-04 Thread Benjamin Schmid
@vanvugt Seeing this VERY regularly in cosmic, too. Just came back here
to re-check the status of this long-term annoying issue.

The fact is, that gnome shell provides me a VERY poor UX experience:

Logged out for the session more than 10mins? Type your password and go
get take a coffee, because it literally takes 1-2 minutes until the
session finally crashes and restarts. Before my PC it literally
unusable. Sometimes I also switch to the login screen and re-login into
my running session to somehow provoke the crash to get it usable.

Ah – and by the way: On some occassions lockscreen does not work and
expose the clickable (!) left sidebar. In this case I only can unlock
via the login-screen way to crash the session.

Also commonly in normal operation the left sidebar looks strangely
sized. Then I need to type "r" to restart the shell to resume normal
operation.

Feels really like an old, nearly dying device …

Saw this new stacktrace at g_cancellable_make_pollfd() right now, too.
For me this occurred while I was hammering quickly in the lockscreen
until it chocked, locked and finally crashed.

[Bug 1796528] Re: Problem with dual monitors

2018-10-08 Thread Benjamin
Sorry, I'm still a noob y many things. I've edited /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and I
minded I was enabling wayland with this...
I've disabled automatic login and rebooted, then make login by clicking on the
gear to select wayland -before I tryed to make this by closing session, but
then the gear didn't appeared, only the login button.
Then, when I run xrandr in terminal Igot this:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 800, maximum 8192 x 8192
XWAYLAND0 connected 1280x800+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
330mm x 210mm
   1280x800  59.81*+

And then I tryed to connect the external monitor and now it works! Then
obviously the problem is xorg.
Now the question is... how can I set wayland to be used as default instead of
xorg for using wayland at autologin? Thanks! Your questions and procedures
guided me to find the problem. "Give a fish to a man and he will eat for a day,
teach him to be a fisherman and then he will eat everyday"

[Bug 1779721] [NEW] systemd-networkd does not configure DHCPv4

2018-07-02 Thread Benjamin Drung
Public bug reported:

I have an up-to-date Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic) server installation (with
systemd 237-3ubuntu10) which has following netplan configuration:

```
root@ubuntu:~# cat /etc/netplan/01-netcfg.yaml
# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# For more information, see netplan(5).
network:
  version: 2
  renderer: networkd
  ethernets:
all:
  match: {}
  dhcp4: yes
root@ubuntu:~# cat /run/systemd/network/10-netplan-all.network
[Match]
[Network]
DHCP=ipv4
[DHCP]
UseMTU=true
RouteMetric=100
```

Despite having DHCPv4 configured, no IPv4 address is configured on the
ethernet device:

```
root@ubuntu:~# ip a show ens6
2: ens6:  mtu 64000 qdisc fq_codel state UP
group default qlen 1000
link/ether 02:01:71:8f:cc:72 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet6 fe80::1:71ff:fe8f:cc72/64 scope link
   valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
```

The kernel dmesg has no related messages and the journal log also looks
normal:

```
root@ubuntu:~# journalctl -u systemd-networkd
Jul 02 16:36:51 ubuntu systemd[1]: Starting Network Service...
Jul 02 16:36:51 ubuntu systemd-networkd[1790]: ens6: Gained IPv6LL
Jul 02 16:36:51 ubuntu systemd-networkd[1790]: Enumeration completed
Jul 02 16:36:51 ubuntu systemd[1]: Started Network Service.
Jul 02 16:36:51 ubuntu systemd-networkd[1790]: lo: Configured
```

Calling dhclient sets up the device correctly:

```
root@ubuntu:~# dhclient ens6
root@ubuntu:~# cat /var/lib/dhcp/dhclient.leases
lease {
  interface "ens6";
[Bug 1747316] [NEW] gnome-terminal-server --app-id option does not accept digits after a period
2018-02-04 Thread Peter Benjamin
Public bug reported:
Low priority - easy work around
On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS for gnome-terminal-server 3.18.3-1ubuntu1
The below error appears upon executing the below script.
Failed to register: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs:
Requested bus name "my.linode.20180204.145656.Terminal" is not valid
The easy work around is to prefix the date and time stamps with a
letter.  I did not try anything else.  I used D and T as the prefix
letters for the date and time, respectively.  See the script below which
has both the work around and recreate error lines.
Terminal Profile "linode" has the Command tab settings as follows:
Checked Run a custom command instead of my shell
Custom command: ssh use...@domain.name.com
When command exits: Hold the terminal open
SCRIPT:
#/bin/bash
Bug #927340 is either private or non-existant. The link is broken and so
this is not a duplicate bug. I have recreated the symptom on 3 different
Dell Precision Mobile Workstation 5510's & a 5520 running 16.04.1 with
all updates.
[Bug 1645363] [NEW] slow sbuild Debian package builds (schroot calls are slow)
2016-11-28 Thread Benjamin Drung
Public bug reported:
Since the upgrade to Ubuntu 16.10, building packages with sbuild takes
much more time than previously. sbuild creates a schroot session for
building Debian packages and calls sbuild --run-session several times.
Entering the sessions takes norally 10 ms, but entering the session from
sbuild takes several seconds now:
time schroot -d / -c $session --run-session -q -u root -p -- true
real0m2.098s
user0m0.008s
sys 0m0.000s
This causes a drastic build time increase for small packages. Example
package build time on my affected Ubuntu workstation:
Build-Time: 9 s
Install-Time: 115 s
Package-Time: 195 s (= 00:03:15)
compared to the build bot running Debian stable (having a slower
processor):
Build-Time: 9 s
Install-Time: 24 s
Package-Time: 41 s
/var/log/syslog shows many entries about starting and stopping D-Bus
services:
[Bug 1577198] Re: Imported gpg keys do not show up in Seahorse 3.18.0
2016-09-06 Thread Benjamin Bach
I agree, this was a very annoying bug as there are no error messages.
Keys are just missing, and importing the old pubring.gpg through both
Seahorse and Enigmail interfaces doesn't work.
The "bug" also affects Enigmail.
There is a nice description here regarding how to export your old
pubring.gpg to pubring.kbx, retaining owner trust:
[Bug 1387219] Re: Mouse pointer disappears and cursor stops blinking
2015-04-15 Thread Benjamin Sperisen
I was experiencing this bug before I read Sebastien's message. I just
installed ibus-gtk (it was not there before), and after a restart I no
longer seem to have this bug. (I still experienced the bug before
restarting.) I will post again if the bug resurrects itself, but for
now, this seems to have fixed the issue -- thanks Sebastien!
In case it's useful to know, I think I already had ibus-gtk3 installed
the whole time with the bug, but I can dig through the dpkg logs if
someone would like me to double check.
[Bug 1272870] Re: No context pane plugin for rhythmbox installation (Trusty/Utopic/Vivid)
2015-04-08 Thread Benjamin Bach
Confirming that these very simple patches do their job. The "rhythmbox-
plugins_3.0.2-0ubuntu2_*" package is now correctly rebuild so that the
context pane plugin is installed once again.
Patch #1 (rhythmbox-plugins.install)
I would definitely say that this should be added back in 14.04, it's a
big miss IMO.
The Context Pane is also still missing in Vivid and Utopic.
Patch #2 (control.in)
We can perhaps do without While installing rhythmbox-plugins as a
dependency is nice, it may be too nice as it makes it impossible to
remove rhythmbox-plugins without also removing rhythmbox.
** Summary changed:
- no context pane plugin for trusty rhythmbox installation
[Bug 1439309] [NEW] Use the new desktop shortcut for Nautilus in Applications menu
2015-04-01 Thread Benjamin Xiao
Public bug reported:
In 15.04, Nautilus' desktop name was changed from nautilus.desktop to
org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop. Currently, org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop is set
as NoDisplay=true and nautilus.desktop isn't, meaning that the old
shortcut appears in the Unity menu instead of the new shortcut. This
also means that when you remove the default Nautilus icon from favorites
and re-add it by dragging the icon from the "Installed Applications"
section in the Unity menu, the window matching won't work properly.
You'll get a separate file icon that pops up whenever you launch it.
Expected fix: Set nautilus.desktop to NoDisplay=true and remove that
line from org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop
On all three of my machines, org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop is the one with
NoDisplay=true and nautilus.desktop is the one without that line.
I have not made any changes to those files.
[Bug 1436297] Re: Nautilus launcher icon matching issue (seems due to desktop rename)
2015-03-31 Thread Benjamin Xiao
No I don't have any nautilus related files in
~/.local/share/applications/
I think Colin pointed out (in the duplicate bug) that the problem really
stems from the fact that in /usr/share/applications, there's
nautilus.desktop and then there's org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop, which is
marked with NoDisplay=true.
Seems like the one in the Application menus is nautilus.desktop, but the
one that gets launched is org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop, so the windows
aren't properly matched to the icon.
org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop also doesn't have any of the right-click menu
bookmarks.
Is it possible to get rid of nautilus.desktop, mark
org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop to appear in the menus, and then associate
the bookmarks to it?
[Bug 1436297] Re: Nautilus launcher icon matching issue (seems due to desktop rename)
2015-03-31 Thread Benjamin Xiao
Resetting my launcher favorites using the gsettings command brings back
a file icon that doesn't duplicate, BUT it doesn't have any bookmarks in
the right click menu.
So it seems like the Files icon in the Applications section is different
from the one that's being written into com.canonical.Unity.Launcher
favorites by default. And the one that's being written by default does
not have any Bookmarks.
So new steps to reproduce should be:
1.) Unlock nautilus icon
2.) Drag Files icon from Applications into Favorites
3.) Click on Files icon.
4.) See another file icon appear.
[Bug 1429354] [NEW] Systemd takes very long to boot with error in swap mounting and nvidia persistenced
2015-03-07 Thread Benjamin Geese
Public bug reported:
My system boots almost instantly with upstart. Today i tried booting with
systemd via the additional grub option.
However, with systemd it takes really long to boot but – so long that i forced
a reboot once because i thought i got stuck.
Looking in to boot journal, i found the following error concerning the swap:
[Bug 778543] Re: Evolution mostly (?!) fails to save sent email to IMAPs sent folder - the mail is saved in local folder instead
2014-06-11 Thread Benjamin J Norton
Thanks to the bug report I figured out what I had to do. I didn't know
that I had to change the setting in accounts to use imap folders instead
of local. This was one a few things I didn't like about Evolution but
now it's working. I don't know why the defaults are to use locla folders
when you setup an imap emaill account you obviously want to keep mail on
the server. There are severl settings that I have to remember to change
with Evolution when fresh installing but I love the program. Even better
that Thunderbird.
[Bug 1272870] Re: no context pane plugin for trusty rhythmbox installation
2014-05-25 Thread Benjamin Bach
Patches look fine, any reason not to merge the first one? I guess it's
debatable whether rhythmbox-plugins should be a dependency or a
recommendation, but most definitely, the context panel is missing from
rhythmbox-plugins.
On a related note, recent changes to trusty's rhythmbox include:
[Bug 1247572] Re: Nokia Lumia 620 (WP8) fails to mount reliably via gvfs-mtp in nautilus
2013-12-11 Thread Benjamin Tegge
** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #720238
   https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=720238
** Changed in: gvfs
   Importance: Undecided => Unknown
** Changed in: gvfs
   Status: New => Unknown
** Changed in: gvfs
 Remote watch: None => GNOME Bug Tracker #720238
** Description changed:
+ Summary: You have to run mtp-detect in terminal until you get output
+ similar to the excerpt in the steps to reproduce section, then you can
+ connect via nautilus as usual.
+
+ -
+
  I just got a Nokia Lumia 620 as a backup phone. I'd say I can mount my
  Nexus 4 reliably with Ubuntu via nautilus using gvfs-mtp. Users with
  Android devices like the Nexus 4 still get error messages on a regularly
  basis of the device not being able to mount, but replugging the device
  mostly fixes the issue.
  However, the experience with the Lumia 620 is far worse (the desktop
  sometimes freezes) and the workaround I found to get the device to work
  very crude.
  I was prompted with a apport-collector window when nautilus froze during
  testing and send a report (this happend twice), but it didn't take me to
  Launchpad to open a report. I can also seen no bug regarding that topic
  that I am subscribed to.
  The Lumia 620 itself was added to libmtp with this report:
  http://sourceforge.net/p/libmtp/bugs/780/
  ## Steps to reproduce:
  1. Reboot (or cold boot) computer and phone. Login to computers destop and
unlock the phone by entering PIN.
  2. Plug the phone via USB into the computer. (Cable works with Nexus 4 or
another Android device.) The phone will give a signal that it is connected to
the computer.
  3. Try to open the phone in Nautilus. My desktop either freezes (cold boot)
here or nautilus hangs (reboot).
  3.a) If nautilus hangs: Open a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T and kill nautilus
with xkill.
  3.b) If your desktop froze: Go to a virtual terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F1.
  3.c) If you just get an error message: Open a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T and go
to step 4.
  4. Execute 'mtp-detect' (from mtp-tools package) from terminal (either
  via Dektop or virtual terminal). If you get one of the following
  messages wait a few seconds and try again.
    $ mtp-detect
    OK.
  ---
  Repeat this until you get a long list of scrolling text that ends with
  something similar to this:
  5. Go to a virtual terminal and do 'sudo service lightdm restart'. Login
  again, you hear the phone reconnecting to your computer and should now
  be able to open your phone in nautilus seeing the phones internal
  storage and the SD card (if there is) als sub devices.
  6. Unplug the phone from the computer and start with step 2 if you want
  to connect the phone again.
[Bug 1247621] Re: Cannot type in evince search field in Ubuntu 13.10
2013-11-14 Thread Benjamin ABEL
The solution provided by Justyn Butler in post #14 works for me.
My home directory is in `/media/home/`, so I've edited the
`/etc/apparmor.d/tunables` file to change the `@{HOMEDIRS}` value like this:
@{HOMEDIRS}=/home/ /media/home/
After that, you need to reload your apparmor profile:
sudo invoke-rc.d apparmor reload
[Bug 1247621] Re: Cannot type in evince search field in Ubuntu 13.10
2013-11-09 Thread Benjamin ABEL
and it works on my own user session. The bug is exactly the same that
what described Justyn Butler in the message #11.
