[Bug 1587154] Re: --working-directory does not work anymore
The --help command isn't very clear about this, but the feature does work when you put the "--working-directory" option BEFORE AN EXPLICIT " --window" option. However, the tilde "~" symbol may or may not work, depending on the environment where the terminal is launched from. For example, I wanted to open a terminal at my home's desktop folder using a keyboard shortcut. I found that my window manager's keyboard shortcuts settings does not parse the tilde correctly, so my workaround was this: gnome-terminal --working-directory=/home/USERNAME/desktop --window Replacing USERNAME with the username of my own. I hope this clears the confusion for all gnome-terminal users hereon. It does work, it just has some quirks to it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1587154 Title: --working-directory does not work anymore To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1587154/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows
I believe that I managed to fix this on my machine. I'd suggest to anyone having this issue to check for and uninstall any workspace- related extensions in gnome-tweaks. Read on for more detail. This problem appeared for me after updating to 19.04 from 18.10. Like everyone else, I could click on items in the top bar (date/time, dock icons) and they would respond as expected, but applications weren't responding to keyboard or mouse input. It seemed that pressing the super key was triggering this, as things would work more or less fine until the application switcher overlay thing was shown. After reading through this thread and seeing a lot of mentions of workspace extensions I remembered that I'd enabled the Workspace Grid extension via gnome-tweaks. Loading gnome-tweaks showed a warning indicator next to this extension, with a mouseover tooltip that read something to the effect of "problem loading extension." @vanvugt Seeing this VERY regularly in cosmic, too. Just came back here to re-check the status of this long-term annoying issue. The fact is, that gnome shell provides me a VERY poor UX experience: Logged out for the session more than 10mins? Type your password and go get take a coffee, because it literally takes 1-2 minutes until the session finally crashes and restarts. Before my PC it literally unusable. Sometimes I also switch to the login screen and re-login into my running session to somehow provoke the crash to get it usable. Ah – and by the way: On some occassions lockscreen does not work and expose the clickable (!) left sidebar. In this case I only can unlock via the login-screen way to crash the session. Also commonly in normal operation the left sidebar looks strangely sized. Then I need to type "r" to restart the shell to resume normal operation. [Bug 1796528] Re: Problem with dual monitors
Sorry, I'm still a noob y many things. I've edited /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and I minded I was enabling wayland with this... I've disabled automatic login and rebooted, then make login by clicking on the gear to select wayland -before I tryed to make this by closing session, but then the gear didn't appeared, only the login button. Then, when I run xrandr in terminal Igot this: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 800, maximum 8192 x 8192 XWAYLAND0 connected 1280x800+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 330mm x 210mm 1280x800 59.81*+ And then I tryed to connect the external monitor and now it works! Then obviously the problem is xorg. Now the question is... how can I set wayland to be used as default instead of xorg for using wayland at autologin? Thanks! Your questions and procedures guided me to find the problem. Public bug reported: I have an up-to-date Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic) server installation (with systemd 237-3ubuntu10) which has following netplan configuration: ``` root@ubuntu:~# cat /etc/netplan/01-netcfg.yaml # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system # For more information, see netplan(5). network: version: 2 renderer: networkd ethernets: all: match: {} dhcp4: yes root@ubuntu:~# cat /run/systemd/network/10-netplan-all.network [Match] [Network] DHCP=ipv4 [DHCP] UseMTU=true RouteMetric=100 ``` Despite having DHCPv4 configured, no IPv4 address is configured on the ethernet device: ``` root@ubuntu:~# ip a show ens6 2: ens6: mtu 64000 qdisc fq_codel state UP group default qlen 1000 link/ether 02:01:71:8f:cc:72 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet6 fe80::1:71ff:fe8f:cc72/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever ``` The kernel dmesg has no related messages and the journal log also looks normal: ``` root@ubuntu:~# journalctl -u systemd-networkd Jul 02 16:36:51 ubuntu systemd[1]: Starting Network Service... [Bug 1747316] [NEW] gnome-terminal-server --app-id option does not accept digits after a period
Public bug reported: Low priority - easy work around On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS for gnome-terminal-server 3.18.3-1ubuntu1 The below error appears upon executing the below script. Failed to register: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Requested bus name "my.linode.20180204.145656.Terminal" is not valid The easy work around is to prefix the date and time stamps with a letter. [Bug 1272870] Re: No context pane plugin for rhythmbox installation (Trusty/Utopic/Vivid)
Confirming that these very simple patches do their job. The "rhythmbox- plugins_3.0.2-0ubuntu2_*" package is now correctly rebuild so that the context pane plugin is installed once again. Patch #1 (rhythmbox-plugins.install) I would definitely say that this should be added back in 14.04, it's a big miss IMO. The Context Pane is also still missing in Vivid and Utopic. [Bug 1439309] [NEW] Use the new desktop shortcut for Nautilus in Applications menu
Public bug reported: In 15.04, Nautilus' desktop name was changed from nautilus.desktop to org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop. Currently, org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop is set as NoDisplay=true and nautilus.desktop isn't, meaning that the old shortcut appears in the Unity menu instead of the new shortcut. This also means that when you remove the default Nautilus icon from favorites and re-add it by dragging the icon from the "Installed Applications" section in the Unity menu, the window matching won't work properly. You'll get a separate file icon that pops up whenever you launch it. [Bug 1436297] Re: Nautilus launcher icon matching issue (seems due to desktop rename)
No I don't have any nautilus related files in ~/.local/share/applications/ I think Colin pointed out (in the duplicate bug) that the problem really stems from the fact that in /usr/share/applications, there's nautilus.desktop and then there's org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop, which is marked with NoDisplay=true. Seems like the one in the Application menus is nautilus.desktop, but the one that gets launched is org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop, so the windows aren't properly matched to the icon. org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop also doesn't have any of the right-click menu bookmarks. [Bug 1436297] Re: Nautilus launcher icon matching issue (seems due to desktop rename)
Resetting my launcher favorites using the gsettings command brings back a file icon that doesn't duplicate, BUT it doesn't have any bookmarks in the right click menu. So it seems like the Files icon in the Applications section is different from the one that's being written into com.canonical.Unity.Launcher favorites by default. And the one that's being written by default does not have any Bookmarks. So new steps to reproduce should be: 1.) Unlock nautilus icon 2.) Drag Files icon from Applications into Favorites 3.) [Bug 1247621] Re: Cannot type in evince search field in Ubuntu 13.10
The solution provided by Justyn Butler in post #14 works for me. My home directory is in `/media/home/`, so I've edited the `/etc/apparmor.d/tunables` file to change the `@{HOMEDIRS}` value like this: @{HOMEDIRS}=/home/ /media/home/ After that, you need to reload your apparmor profile: sudo invoke-rc.d apparmor reload And then I can type in the search fireld as expected. [Bug 1247621] Re: Cannot type in evince search field in Ubuntu 13.10
I tried to paste in the search field of evince via the right click menu and it works on my own user session.
