[Bug 886667] Re: boot moves desktop icons
Reassigning this bug to Compiz. Some tracing points to Compiz and more specifically a Compiz struts issue. Details: windows.cpp CompWindow::updateStruts () struts [0]=0, [1]=0, [2]=300, [3]=0, struts [4]=0, [5]=0, [6]=0, [7]=0 struts [8]=100, [9]=419, [10]=0, [11]=0 The setting of struts [2] = 300 (top.height) is the one that causes this issue, i.e indicates a "panel" of height 300 pixels that in combination with the real unity panel of 24 pixels later leaves 276 pixels of unused height at the bottom of the screen causing icons in that area to be moved upwards. Futhermore, struts [8]=100 (top.x) and struts [9]=419 (top.width) are inaccurate values e.g for a screen 1366x768 running unity. However, there's also a race conditions issue with nautilus causing this to appear sporadic. Tested that during the weekend but it didn't work then but for some magic reason now it mostly does :) > you would have no other way for maximized app when you want to drop on the left part Not sure what you mean here but probably a strong reason to keep the behaviour. As is today the hidden launcher always pops up when you drag an icon on the desktop which prevents you from using that leftmost part. [Bug 936958] Re: Nautilus is now placing desktop icons far away from the launcher
Yes, that could be a workaround until we find out why reveived screen window margins sometimes have incorrect values. However, imo a final solution shall trust those margins and that those are the root cause of the problem. Margins here shall be controlled by Unity but I suspect that there are other players around too such as compiz that set/change those margins, mainly thinking of the left margin for the launcher. Then it's a question of how it should work. Just noticed, using launcher never hide mode, that desktop icons today really moves when changing the launcher width. Also checked in oneiric that acted the same way and there without any flickering, which thus has been introduced in precise. However, for launcher autohide mode the the desktop icons don't move, i.e appear static! An intentional behaviour? Another strange behaviour I noticed is that the leftmost desktop icons are moved below the launcher for the case setting the launcher width to 49! But the question remains, how shall it work? Is there any design decision made here? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/936958 Title: Nautilus is now placing desktop icons far away from the launcher To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/936958/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 936958] Re: Nautilus is now placing desktop icons far away from the launcher
Just tested the moving icon scenario now and found two side-effects: Glitching What happens here is that the desktop icon workarea is updated three times! - first update with a correct value for left margin - second update with left margin = 0 !!! - third update with a correct value for left margin Expected: one update only The second and third updates cause the glitch as the icons here are moved to the left edge and then back again to its correct posisions. This is probably doable to fix as the unity session is active and by assuming that a left margin = 0 is always wrong. Other possible ways are to find the root cause why there are three updates instead of one and/or why the left margin = 0 in the second update. Icons moving out of screen - This one I guess is a showstopper for this scenario. Assume a launcher width equals 32 and with some desktop icons placed at the right edge of the screen. Increasing the launcher width to 64 here will partly move those icons away from the screen but still possible to grab and drag back into the screen. There is no mechanism implemented as I know of in nautilus atm to do a re-layout of the icons and even if there were one this could cause icons to overlap eachother on the right side. Thus, remains the static left margin >= 64 that cause a "white" space between the launcher and icons on the left side. Looks buggy and wastes horizontal space but works. My conclusion is that there is no perfect (precise) solution to this.
Another better solution is to always register the left margin (launcher width + any pad) to X independent of whether the launcher is visible or not and remove the adjustment "left += UNITY_LAUNCHER_WIDTH - 15". The pros is that there is no "visible" empty column between a visible launcher and the left most icons. [Bug 936958] Re: Nautilus is now placing desktop icons far away from the launcher
That bug does concider the fact that the desktop icon container shall be unchanged idependent of whether the kauncher is visible or not. That (design decision?) is stated in bug #684649. The the left margin might be decreased or adjusted but not too low as this causes side effect especially with the launcher popping up as soon as one drags an icon on the screen. Furthermore, the launcher's margin is registered i X and received from XGetWindowProperty. For a 32 pix wide launcher the left margin received is 49 pixels and for a hidden launcher it's 0 pixels. [Bug 886667] Re: boot moves desktop icons
The issue causing desktop icons at the bottom of the screen to be moved upwards and in some cases (sporadically) overlap other icons is caused by multiple setups of the desktop icon container in combination with a first too high top margin value setting the height of the desktop icon container. Futhermore, if a desktop icon container has been drawn it will not be redrawn with new margin values, see module libnautilus- private/nautilus-icon-container.c/redo_layout_internal. In my case this issue occurs when a top margin value of 300 pixels appears (from Xlib XGetWindowProperty) and then is used to finally set the desktop icon container height. As the Unity panel is 24 pixels the the empty part in the lower part of the screen will be 300-24 = 276 pixels. So any icons in that lower empty area will then be moved upwards into the desktop icon container. As the function redo_layout_internal today does not support redrawal of the desktop icon container one way is to filter "bad" margin values. As it only seems to be caused by a too high top margin value this can be done in the module src/nautilus-desktop-icon- view.c/icon_container_set_workarea. The highest value to be passed is set to 49 in the following patch but can be reduced further down to max of panel height (top margin) for any sessions supported by ubuntu. Furthermore, it might be included into the patch 02_additional_marge_for_unity.patch. ** Patch added: "top margin patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/886667/+attachment/2768289/+files/nautilus_top_margin.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/886667 Title: boot moves desktop icons To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/886667/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 794761] Re: No valid active connections found
Package glib2.0 ver 2.29.6-0ubuntu1 installed. TEST CASE 1: LightDM and GDM installed. Package glib2.0 ver 2.29.6-0ubuntu1 installed. Running the System preferences > Network in the terminal: $ gnome-control-center network After some 80 seconds the Network windows pops up together with an alert: "The system network services are not compatible with this version." Only the option Network Proxy shows up, ie Wired and Wireless are missing! Downgrade and this works too. TEST CASE 2: Removing LightDM, rebooting and thus running GDM. Package glib2.0 ver 2.29.6-0ubuntu1 installed. Running the System preferences > Network in the terminal: $ gnome-control-center network The Network window pops up at once also showning the options Wired and Wireless. No downgrade needed. CONCLUSION: The problem can be isolated to LightDM as far as I can see. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/794761 Title: No valid active connections found To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/+bug/794761/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 794761] Re: No valid active connections found
It seems, at least in my case, that the problem depends on whether I run GDM or LightDM but also if I use autologin or not. In my previous comment I ran LightDM and manual login. After some tests between GDM/LightDM and auto/manual login it seems that autologin works better for both DMs concerning network setup. At the moment I'm running LightDM and autologin and it mostly works. However, trying to access the Network confiuration under System preferences hangs and I'm forced to do a force quit to close that window. So there is a network issue introduced by the glib2.0 update. Downgrading "solves" the issue at the moment. Then why this /etc/etc folder being created? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/794761 Title: No valid active connections found To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/+bug/794761/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 794761] Re: No valid active connections found
This bug still exists in glib2.0 version 2.29.6-0ubuntu1 and causes freezing at logout, reboot and shutdown. Furthermore, no network access, neither wired nor wireless works. Downgrade to version 2.28.6-0ubuntu1 is a workaround. There seems to be a misconfiguration in the package creating an /etc/etc folder containing $ ls -l /etc/etc totalt 4 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2011-06-09 13:37 bash_completion.d Thus, bash completion is affected and obviously some other glib- functions as well addressing /etc/etc instead of /etc.

[Bug 316947] Re: URL-links including ampersands listed in evolution mails are not rendered correctly
Just discovered that linux was smarter than me! After a restart the corresponding symlink /usr/lib/libgtkhtml-3.14.so.19 was updated to point to the original /usr/lib/libgtkhtml-3.14.so.19.1.0 so had to fix that too. [Bug 316947] Re: URL-links including ampersands listed in evolution mails are not rendered correctly
I've just made a test by replacing the file /usr/lib/libgtkhtml-3.14.so.19.1.0 installed for Jaunty with the corresponding one installed for Intrepid and the missing ampersands in the url-link popped up again in Evolution and everything seems fine. Now tested in Gutsy as well and this type of url works fine there too! So, it seems that the issue is introduced in a version update of gtkhtml only being used in Jaunty at the moment. [Bug 316947] Re: URL-links including ampersands listed in evolution mails are not rendered correctly
You're right Sebastien. The reason why I flagged it as Jaunty was that this problem neither appears in Intrepid nor Hardy. But it might be present in Gutsy, haven't checked it yet. Pedro, yes that's may opinion too that gtkhtml is the issue here. Furthermore, I've tested this on another Jaunty installation in a Virtualbox environment with the same result so the problem seems to be consistent anyway. It's also reproducable, ie copying the first paragraph in this report containg the links and then send it to yourself using Jaunty and Evolution. So it shouldn't be that hard to debug either. -- URL-links including ampersands listed in evolution mails are not rendered correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/316947 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtkhtml3.14 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 208282] Re: Dbus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply
I'm not convinced this is not a bug. I can confirm that this problem has occurred recently, actually about one week ago. I have a Dlink DNS-323 connected to my network over SMB. The FTP-server has worked throughout Edgy, Feisty, Gutsy and Hardy alpha/beta without any complains. I don't use it daily but a week ago when samba among other things was updated i Hardy it just stopped working. Actually not true, it works for 1-3 minutes of browsing around and then it hangs and after another minute or two after which I get this messages saying that a reponse (DBUS_ERROR_NO_REPLY) is never returned. When booting my Gutsy and Windows everything works fine. I checked what happened a week ago at the time when the problem arose. Among other things I found the most suspected in my mind was that - samba was upgraded from 3.0.28a-0ubuntu3 to 3.0.28a-1ubuntu1 - smbclient was upgraded from 3.0.28a-0ubuntu3 to 3.0.28a-1ubuntu1 - samba-common was upgraded from 3.0.28a-0ubuntu3 to 3.0.28a-1ubuntu1 I thought (hoped) that maybe 3.0.28a-1ubuntu2 should cure the problem but it didn't so. I also made at backup of my smb.conf and let i update that one acc to the author even though there were just a few minor changes. -- Dbus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/208282 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
