[Bug 418690] [NEW] cannot add user account using gnome-users settings

2009-08-25 Thread Bram Kuijper
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

I am not able to add a user using the gnome gui. I use the following version of
Ubuntu.
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

1. Go to System Administration Users and Groups.
2. Press Unlock and type password
3. Add a new user (any name will do), but I used 'testuser1' as example.
4. Close the dialogs again.
5. Again, go to System Administration Users and Groups.
the previously added user has now disappeared and can only be found in the
manage groups dialog. No home directory has been made, I cannot do su
'testuser1'.

If it is the case that I am not privileged to add users, despite
providing my administrative passwd, it is counterintuitive that I can
still fill in the dialog and presumably add a new user.

version of gnome-system-tools: 2.22.2-0ubuntu4

As an attachment I have uploaded a screenshot video to clarify things.

[Bug 128211] Re: openoffice does not start

2007-07-31 Thread Bram Kuijper
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 127944 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127944

how do you actually reinstall this libgtk2.0 as mentioned in this
posting:

Just reinstall libgtk2.0-0_2.10.11-0ubuntu3_i386.deb and install it with
'dpkg -i libgkt' . This will superseed version 2.11.6 (afaik) and
OOo will work again.

since any tab completion doesn't appear to work for dpkg -i libgtk2.0,
and neither sudo dpkg -i libgtk2.0_2.10.11 nor sudo dpkg -i
libgtk2.0_2.11.6 seem to work...

anyone a clue?

Re: [Bug 102779] Re: cannot add custom application to gnome-panel

2007-04-11 Thread Bram Kuijper
Well, it doesn't work for me on my desktop.

I send you a link to a screenshot (3.2 Mb) to prove this. Note that it
is packaged in a tar file.

Closely watch the icons on the desktop before and after the custom
application was added. No change at all: no custom icon added for my
application.

Here is the link:
http://merops.njn.nl/~bram/mpeg_file_of_app_not_working.tar

I would surely like to provide you with any more information on this,
but I would like to know how I can do this at best. Can I inspect the
contents of gnome panel by any other means?

thanks in advance,
Bram

[Bug 102779] cannot add custom application to gnome-panel

2007-04-04 Thread Bram Kuijper
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I am using Ubuntu feisty, with gnome panel 2.18.0 with the following
uname: Linux 2.6.20-13-generic #2 SMP Sun Mar 25 00:21:25 UTC 2007
i686 GNU/Linux

Already since I began to run feisty a couple of months ago, I cannot add
any custom applications via the Add to Panel option.

What to do:
1. right click on Gnome Panel
2. select Add to Panel
3. Select Custom Application Launcher
4. Fill in the Create Launcher dialog:
-Type: application (but can be anything)
-Name: any
-application name: any, but let's do something Java-like, like java -jar
/home/bram/applications/JabRef-2.2.jar
-Comment: leave empty.

5. Press OK

I am now back at the Add to Panel dialog. However, my custom
application is not appearing anywhere. Not on the gnome-panel, not in
the Add to Panel dialog itself. Also nothing happens when I press
Close in the Add to Panel dialog.
