[Bug 223922] Re: gnome-vfs hardcodes to firefox

2008-05-05 Thread Brian Brazil
Huh? This is a bug, and you are forcing your choice of firefox on
everyone.

If firefox isn't installed, then this shows the incorrect application,
breaks gnome support for http urls and requires the user to dig through
to find this setting and fix it.

It'd be better to use gnome-www-browser which is designed to

[Bug 223922] Re: gnome-vfs hardcodes to firefox

2008-05-05 Thread Brian Brazil
ffm: No, gnome-www-browser uses the debian alternatives system. It has
nothing to do with gnome.

seb128: There's nothing wrong with using deb specific solutions, you're derived
from Debian.
What's not ideal is that it's system rather than user specific, and not
integrated with gnome.

This bug is about the fact that gnome-vfs is using a broken default, that will
not work on all systems.
The solution to #217296 will probably help, but it doesn't fix it.

[Bug 48329] Network Proxy: ignores proxy user/pass provided

2006-06-04 Thread Brian Brazil
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce (requries authenticated proxy):

1. Open Network Proxy
2. Select "Manual Proxy configuration"
3. Enter HTTP proxy host and port
4. Click "Details"
5. Check "Use Authentication"
6. Enter user/pass
7. Click Close
8. Click Close
9. Open a new terminal
10. "echo $http_proxy"

Note that it only contains http://host:port/, not the user and password.
This affects anything spawned within gnome.

[Bug 55999] Can't type in password if LDAP address book isn't default in "Select Conteact from Address Book"

2006-08-11 Thread Brian Brazil
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to use AD for address book purposes. I'm guessing the same
issue affects all LDAP address books.

Repo:
1. Setup an AD address book
2. Make sure the AD address book isn't the default
3. Compose a New Mail Message
4. Press "To:", "Select Contact from Address Book" dialog pops up
5. In the AddressBox combobox select your AD address book
6. A password dialog will pop up, with the caret in the password field and the
password dialog has the focus
7. Type in your password
Expected result: password will appear(sanatised) in the password dialog
Actual result: password appears in the "Search:" box of the "Select Contact
from Address Book" dialog

Notes:
1. Making the AD address book not the default in the "Select Contact from
Address Book" can be a tad tricky, but if it isn't it provides a workaround.
2. In step 7, the text actually goes to where ever the focus is relative to the
"Select Contact from Address Book" dialog.
3. It isn't actually possible to affect the password dialog at all, except for
moving it. You must close the "Select Contact from Address Book" first. Then
you can type in your password etc.
4. If at any point you type in the password, you will have to restart evolution
to repo this.

Xubuntu/Dapper.

I won't be using Evolution after today, certainly not in an AD
enviroment.

3. It isn't actually possible to affect the password dialog at all, except for

[Bug 83695] Produces warning if lsb_release isn't Ubuntu

2007-02-07 Thread Brian Brazil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-tools-backends

This is related to #72722

System-tools-backends produces an error if lsb_release isn't one of a handful
of values.
This breaks for downstream distributions.

Please remove this check, the fact that I'm using a supported system is
implicit from me using a package from Ubuntu.
Hint: debian/patches/05_ubuntu-no-warning.patch

[Bug 48329] Network Proxy: ignores proxy user/pass provided

2006-06-04 Thread Brian Brazil
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce (requries authenticated proxy):

1. Open Network Proxy
2. Select "Manual Proxy configuration"
3. Enter HTTP proxy host and port
4. Click "Details"
5. Check "Use Authentication"
6. Enter user/pass
7. Click Close
8. Click Close
9. Open a new terminal
10. "echo $http_proxy"

Note that it only contains http://host:port/, not the user and password.
This affects anything spawned within gnome.

I'm on Dapper, suggested workaround is to use options within your apps
for authenticated proxies.

Suggested fix is to use the "http://user:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:port" (works with
wget and w3m, not synaptic).

** Affects: control-center (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)

[Bug 51441] Preferences: "default account" checkbox not checked in account editor for default accounts

2006-06-30 Thread Brian Brazil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

1. Open Evolution Preferences/Mail Accounts
2. Select your default account
3. Click 'Edit'
4. Under "Optional Information" note that the "Make this account my default
account" checkbox isn't checked.

Expected behaviour: That checkbox should be checked

I'd question if that checkbox should even be there, as it's role appears
more suited to a button - which already exists in Evolution
Preferences/Mail Accounts

[Bug 53075] Rhythmbox segfaults when you remove the currently playing item from the play queue when >1 items in queue

2006-07-15 Thread Brian Brazil
Public bug reported:

Repo:

1. Start rhythmbox
2. Add an item to the play queue
3. Add a different item to the queue
3. Play the first item (via double clicking, or the play button)
4. Right clock the playing item in the play queue and click remove

Expected result: First item stops playing and is removed from queue. Second
item starts playing
Actual Result: Segfault. Quick check with gdb says the error occurs in the 3rd
recursive call of gtk_tree_view_set_fixed_height_mode() in
/usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0

[Bug 223922] Re: gnome-vfs hardcodes to firefox

2008-05-05 Thread Brian Brazil
Huh? This is a bug, and you are forcing your choice of firefox on
everyone.

If firefox isn't installed, then this shows the incorrect application,
breaks gnome support for http urls and requires the user to dig through
to find this setting and fix it.

It'd be better to use gnome-www-browser which is designed to
transparently handle exactly this situation.

[Bug 223922] Re: gnome-vfs hardcodes to firefox

2008-05-05 Thread Brian Brazil
The correct way to handle this then is to have the safe default in
gnome-vfs and override in ubuntu-artwork (or something).

This would keep things working for Ubuntu, while removing one item from
the list of things derivatives need to debug and change.

[Bug 83695] Produces warning if lsb_release isn't Ubuntu

2007-02-07 Thread Brian Brazil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-tools-backends

This is related to #72722

System-tools-backends produces an error if lsb_release isn't one of a handful
of values.
This breaks for downstream distributions.

Please remove this check, the fact that I'm using a supported system is
implicit from me using a package from Ubuntu.
Hint: debian/patches/05_ubuntu-no-warning.patch

** Affects: system-tools-backends (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs
 Status: Rejected

[Bug 48329] Network Proxy: ignores proxy user/pass provided

2006-06-04 Thread Brian Brazil
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce (requries authenticated proxy):

1. Open Network Proxy
2. Select "Manual Proxy configuration"
3. Enter HTTP proxy host and port
4. Click "Details"
5. Check "Use Authentication"
6. Enter user/pass
7. Click Close
8. Click Close
9. Open a new terminal
10. "echo $http_proxy"

Note that it only contains http://host:port/, not the user and password.
This affects anything spawned within gnome.

I'm on Dapper, suggested workaround is to use options within your apps
for authenticated proxies.

Suggested fix is to use the "http://user:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:port" (works with
wget and w3m, not synaptic).

[Bug 51441] Preferences: "default account" checkbox not checked in account editor for default accounts

2006-06-30 Thread Brian Brazil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

1. Open Evolution Preferences/Mail Accounts

I'd question if that checkbox should even be there, as it's role appears
more suited to a button - which already exists in Evolution

I won't be using Evolution after today, certainly not in an AD
enviroment.

I used Xubuntu/Dapper (with dapper-updates).

AD is Microsoft's Active Directory.

It'd be better to use gnome-www-browser which is designed to
transparently handle exactly this situation.

ffm: No, gnome-www-browser uses the debian alternatives system. It has
nothing to do with gnome.

seb128: There's nothing wrong with using deb specific solutions, you're derived
from Debian.
What's not ideal is that it's system rather than user specific, and not
integrated with gnome.

This bug is about the fact that gnome-vfs is using a broken default, that will
not work on all systems.
The solution to #217296 will probably help, but it doesn't fix it.

The correct way to handle this then is to have the safe default in

This would keep things working for Ubuntu, while removing one item from

[Bug 83695] Produces warning if lsb_release isn't Ubuntu

2007-02-07 Thread Brian Brazil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-tools-backends

This is related to #72722

System-tools-backends produces an error if lsb_release isn't one of a handful

This breaks for downstream distributions.

Please remove this check, the fact that I'm using a supported system is
implicit from me using a package from Ubuntu.
Hint: debian/patches/05_ubuntu-no-warning.patch

[Bug 48329] Network Proxy: ignores proxy user/pass provided

2006-06-04 Thread Brian Brazil
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce (requries authenticated proxy):

1. Open Network Proxy
2. Select "Manual Proxy configuration"
3. Enter HTTP proxy host and port
4. Click "Details"
5. Check "Use Authentication"
6. Enter user/pass
7. Click Close
8. Click Close
9. Open a new terminal
10. "echo $http_proxy"

Note that it only contains http://host:port/, not the user and password.
This affects anything spawned within gnome.

I'm on Dapper, suggested workaround is to use options within your apps
for authenticated proxies.

Suggested fix is to use the "http://user:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:port" (works with
wget and w3m, not synaptic).

[Bug 51441] Preferences: "default account" checkbox not checked in account editor for default accounts

2006-06-30 Thread Brian Brazil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

1. Open Evolution Preferences/Mail Accounts
2. Select your default account
3. Click 'Edit'
4. Under "Optional Information" note that the "Make this account my default
account" checkbox isn't checked.

Expected behaviour: That checkbox should be checked

I'd question if that checkbox should even be there, as it's role appears
more suited to a button - which already exists in Evolution
Preferences/Mail Accounts

[Bug 53075] Rhythmbox segfaults when you remove the currently playing item from the play queue when >1 items in queue

2006-07-15 Thread Brian Brazil
Public bug reported:

Repo:

1. Start rhythmbox
2. Add an item to the play queue
3. Add a different item to the queue
3. Play the first item (via double clicking, or the play button)
4. Right clock the playing item in the play queue and click remove

Expected result: First item stops playing and is removed from queue. Second
item starts playing
Actual Result: Segfault. Quick check with gdb says the error occurs in the 3rd
recursive call of gtk_tree_view_set_fixed_height_mode() in
