[Bug 31102] Re: Can't disable tooltips

@aoirthoir:

The gtkrc files go with the themes. You will find the themes in either
~/.themes/ or /usr/share/themes in the case of system-wide default
themes.

Update for Jaunty Release Candidate:

The characters éàõ display fine, a comma after text in italics still

[Bug 86194] HAL device manager does not produce portable output

2007-02-26 Thread Carthik Sharma
Public bug reported:

The HAL device manager in System-Administration does not seem to
produce any form of portable output. By portable output I mean a text
file, a spreadsheet, a webpage or any data file that has all the
information about the hardware on my computer.

See the output of the lshw command (at
http://carthik.net/files/acer-5003.html ) for an example of how it could
be.

I submitted the details to the Ubuntu Hardware Database, the url is
http://hwdb.ubuntu.com/?xml=1113b141ddb5a45e05235134dd13a87a

The page has no details about my hardware, though the device manager
reported success in submitting my hardware details correctly.

[Bug 86191] HAL Device Manager is hard to use

2007-02-18 Thread Carthik Sharma
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal-device-manager

Hal device manager is hard to use - I am unable to find the Make of the
CPU (AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-32) or the Speed of the CPU
from the HAL device manager.

It would be great if the HAL device manager produced a hirearchical
overview of the computer in Human-friendly language, like the command
lshw does.

For finding the Make and Speed of my cpu in lshw, I don't have to look
too far :)

See http://carthik.net/files/acer-5003.html for the output of lshw.

I have created a user using adduser in the past, worked correctly.

I then created through users-admin, however the files were created with
owner == the UID and GID of the user I added with adduser previously.

Moreoever, adding with adduser installs the Examples link, but not the
Desktop/trash, and users-admin does the opposite.

Public bug reported:

[Bug 65681] rhythmbox: fails to burn audio CD

Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.9.3.1-0ubuntu9
Severity: normal

I tried to burn an audio CD from rhythmbox, but it failed with some sort
of growisofs problem.

I made a playlist from an album in my library, selected the playlist,
and clicked Create Audio CD. I started rhythmbox from a terminal, so I
see the error message

  (rhythmbox:5925): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: IA__g_object_set_valist:
object class `GstCapsFilter' has no property named `filter-caps'

One message appears for every song on the album. The last error message
printed is

** (rhythmbox:5925): WARNING **: Can only use growisofs on a single
track

Rhythmbox then pops up a dialog box that says there was an error writing
to the CD.

[Bug 65732] gnome-terminal blocks X input in specific circumstances

Subject: gnome-terminal blocks X input in specific circumstances
Date: Mon, 02 Oct 2006 12:24:37 +0200
X-Mailer: reportbug 3.18ubuntu1

Package: gnome-terminal
Version: 2.14.2-0ubuntu1
Severity: normal

There is a particular combination of menu commands that causes gnome-terminal
to block X input until it is killed. It may be sometimes necessary to do
a full reboot to regain control of the system.

The symptoms are:
1. Mouse pointer moves as usual, but no clicks are registered.
2. Background windows are still repainted (in my case: gnome-panel).
3. You need to kill gnome-terminal or X to regain control.

Steps to replicate the error:
1. Make a new terminal profile that takes a while to open
(Using EditProfiles and New button.) Call it 'Blocker'.
You can use ssh to server that silently drops SYN packets.
2. Use FileOpen TabBlocker once.
3. While the tab is opened but empty, open FileOpen Tab directing
mouse pointer to Blocker entry, but NOT clicking it.
3. When the Blocker tab closes (because trying to connect to server
failed), the menu will stop to be repainted and gnome-terminal will
block X input.

I occasionally have similar problem with the gnome-panel that stops
receiving input and at the same time it somehow prevents from switching
windows and workspaces so I'm stuck with the input to just a single
application window. This looks like it may be also metacity problem or
related to some under-the-hood shared Gnome component which blocks
indefinitely (and shouldn't).

[Bug 65681] Re: rhythmbox: fails to burn audio CD

2006-10-12 Thread Carthik Sharma
Rejecting,
Got this email later from the same user:
Ack, I realized my friend gave me a DVD instead of a CD, so of course
the software got confused. I popped in a CD and it worked fine.

Perhaps rhythmbox (and other GNOME CD burning functionality?) should
check when trying to burn an audio CD to DVD media.

[Bug 65735] rhythmbox should check if the blank media is a CD when an audio cd is burned

2006-10-12 Thread Carthik Sharma
Public bug reported:

Please refer to Bug #65681 for background, which I summarize below:

A user tries to burn an audio cd with rhythmbox. The action fails with a
growisofs error. Turns out later that the user had inserted a DVD
instead of a CD.

What should happen:
Perhaps rhythmbox (and other GNOME CD burning functionality?) should check when
trying to burn an audio CD to DVD media.

Thank you.

Hi kanyi,

Thank you for getting back with your comment.
I am rejecting this bug now since it does not seem like the system failed, but
was in fact caused by misconfiguration.

[Bug 59288] Default application to open html files is not taken from preferred browser

2006-09-06 Thread Carthik Sharma
Public bug reported:

Originally reported using reportbug. Filing by proxy.

From: Floris Bruynooghe [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Subject: Default application to open html files is not taken from preferred
browser
Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
X-Mailer: reportbug 3.18ubuntu1
Date: Fri, 01 Sep 2006 21:17:17 +0200

Package: nautilus
Version: 2.14.3-0ubuntu1
Severity: normal

When you open a html file in nautilus it will not respect the setting
for default web browser that is set under System - Preferences -
Preferred Applications. It will instead take the program to launch from
the mime information it has. It is my believe it should take the
default web browser though.

Regards
Floris

[Bug 54890] The GTK_STOCK_DIRECTORY icon isn't being themed

2006-08-02 Thread Carthik Sharma
Public bug reported:

Originally filed using reportbug. Filing here by proxy.

Package: ubuntu-artwork
Version: 28
Severity: normal

I noticed that applications using GTK_STOCK_DIRECTORY stock icon are still
getting
the icon from gnome theme (seems to be
/usr/share/icons/gnome/24x24/stock/io/stock_open.png).

It would be great if this problem was fixed, as icons for replacement are
already
available, you just have to symlink/describe them properly.
