[Bug 28537] Re: nautilus search always starts from home in spatial mode

2007-10-02 Thread Chris Lord
That's because of the new nautilus tracker integration - The nautilus
tracker search is completely useless and I've no idea why its been added
to replace the genuinely useful search-in-folder capability you get when
you don't have tracker/beagle installed...

(this isn't a comment on tracker btw, which I like and is useful with
its own search interface, but the integration of it in nautilus)

[Bug 120652] External disk drives with the same vendor name conflict with gnome-volume-manager

2007-06-15 Thread Chris Lord
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

I think this problem lies in gnome-volume-manager, but it may well lie
in gnome-mount or hal, I don't know. If two external disk drives have
the same vendor name, only one of them will mount. This seems to be due
to conflicting mount points (e.g. in my case, I have two drives that
want to be mounted at /media/WDC USB2). The other drive is perfectly
mountable using pmount or pmount-hal, but will receive a generic mount
point (e.g. 'usbdisk' or 'sd??').

It'd be good if these cases could be detected and handled nicely, such
as having /media/WDC USB2 and /media/WDC USB2 (2), or by returning a
non-cryptic error message and some instructions on a possible remedy.
Even better would be to use the FAT drive label when it exists, but this
problem could still occur of course.

[Bug 61340] Re: Alacarte emptied my Applications menu list.

2007-05-20 Thread Chris Lord
I just ran into this - it seems pretty brain-dead that opening the menu
editor will kill your menus without warning when you don't have any disk
space (which happens from time to time) and not offer any way to recover
them, except by deleting some magical file that you're extremely
unlikely to know about... Why is this rejected?

[Bug 71645] Totem is unable to play media from a samba share

2006-11-13 Thread Chris Lord
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Totem is completely unable to play media from a samba share over gnome-
vfs. Other transport methods via gnome-vfs, such as ssh, work fine and
this used to work fine in dapper.

This affects both totem-gstreamer and totem-xine. Totem-gstreamer pops
up an error dialog when you try to play saying 'Unable to read from
resource', where as totem-xine seems to read the video properties
(visible in the properties side-pane), but refuses to start playing.

Mounting the samba shares with smbfs and playing like that works fine,

[Bug 60384] GTK file dialogs ignore desktop_is_home_dir setting

2006-09-14 Thread Chris Lord
Public bug reported:

I have the option /apps/nautilus/preferences/desktop_is_home_dir set to
true - Previously (in dapper), setting this meant that the 'Desktop'
entry wouldn't appear in GTK file dialogs (as is correct, the directory
doesn't exist and if it did, isn't my desktop anyway). Currently, the
'Desktrop' entry will always appear. As it doesn't exist, there is no
icon next to its entry and selecting it results in an error dialog
(saying that the uri doesn't exist).

Would be nice if old behaviour was maintained so that this entry doesn't
appear when /apps/nautilus/preferences/desktop_is_home_dir is set.

[Bug 58659] Re: Ugly frames show in widgets with some gtk2 themes

From comments on IRC, it appears this is fixed in gtk2-engines:

The latest source-package of gtk2-engines is 2.8.0

[Bug 57344] Re: [Edgy] Focus doesn't always follow window selection

2006-09-08 Thread Chris Lord
I get this problem with default settings using the latest metacity in
Edgy - I think this is a very important bug to fix before release as it
can mean you end up in states that lock your control;

For example, if you click to focus on a qemu window but metacity doesn't
give focus, the keyboard will then be disabled and you'll be unable to
move the mouse away from that window (so you have to alt+f4, losing any
work you may have had).

click on that link, however, it loads Firefox to open it. Epiphany is
set as my default browser in the preferred applications and launching
links from other locations (the terminal, the run dialog, etc.) works
correctly.

This is in Edgy, I do believe this was fine in Dapper.

[Bug 56760] Gnome-screensaver ignores joypad input

2006-08-17 Thread Chris Lord
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

gnome-screensaver often comes on when I'm playing a game full screen
with the joypad. This can be rather annoying as the screen slowly fades
and you wonder what the heck's going on, then you realise and rush for
your wireless mouse that's since gone to sleep, wake it back up and
frantically move it around, all the while you're losing at whatever game
you're playing...

I suggest that gnome-screensaver should either listen to /dev/input/js*
or that it check if a window's full-screen and not turn on in those
cases... Or that zsnes and xmame are modified to turn off the
screensaver :)

[Bug 36538] Re: Epiphany Python extension functions are broken on amd64

2006-08-08 Thread Chris Lord
Given that you can't actually get a 'slow' amd64 machine and that
whatever performance increase -O3 gives is probably negligible (and
comes at the cost of stability, clearly), this doesn't seem like
reasonable argument against this, for this architecture?

I've been rebuilding the packages since discovering this and have
noticed no appreciable drop in performance (but a very appreciable
improvement in the whole not-crashing department)

[Bug 46219] Folder icons in 'Human' theme are huge

2006-05-23 Thread Chris Lord
Public bug reported:

A recent update to ubuntu-artwork has made folder icons when using the 'Human'

This isn't consistent; document icons and the open-folder icon are still the
normal size, which leads to odd behaviour when dragging a document into a

[Bug 42923] Dragging page icon to desktop no longer makes a shortcut

2006-05-04 Thread Chris Lord
Public bug reported:

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Binary package hint: nautilus

Dragging the icon in the Location bar of a page in Epiphany to a
folder/desktop in Nautilus used to make a launcher to that web-page.

This was useful functionality, if you ever needed to save the page,
there was always File-Save As, or right-click-Save As, now there
appears to be no simple way of creating a web launcher.

I haven't changed my Epiphany package in a while (I need to recompile on
amd64 each time), so I'm guessing this may actually be a nautilus bug.

[Bug 42923] Re: Dragging page icon to desktop no longer makes a shortcut

2006-05-04 Thread Chris Lord
This did used to work not so long ago (like a few weeks ago) and I
haven't updated my epiphany-browser package since then. It may be
epiphany related, but it seems to have been triggered by a change in
another package (perhaps nautilus or shared-mime-info, or something like
that?)

[Bug 38594] Re: Opening totem disables the mouse

2006-04-20 Thread Chris Lord
ok, the problem is back again and I've no idea what's triggered it. I tried
replacing totem-gstreamer with totem-xine and the problem still exists...
There's no problem with the mozilla plugin or other media players (gxine,
wxvlc, mplayer), so I'm guessing the problem lies somewhere in Totem?

Does anyone have any idea how to debug something like this?

[Bug 38594] Re: Opening totem disables the mouse

2006-04-11 Thread Chris Lord
In addition, mouse keys still work, it just seems to be the mouse device that's
disabled - This is a standard ps/2 mouse - in xorg.conf, the device node is set
as /dev/input/mice.

If I cat the device, totem actually seems to stop the device working completely
- It stops receiving input as soon as totem loads (and resumes as soon as totem
quits). Other video playing apps seem to work fine, such as wxvlc and gxine.

[Bug 36538] Epiphany Python extension functions are broken on amd64

2006-03-25 Thread Chris Lord
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36538

Affects: epiphany-browser (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Epiphany immediately segfaults on amd64 when a python extension calls
epiphany.ephy_shell_get_default().get_bookmarks().get_keywords().get_children()

I have filed this up-stream (Gnome bug #325930), however the fault is
not present when compiling without optimisations.

The Epiphany del.icio.us bookmarks syncing extension 'epilicious' is
affected - An intermediary solution (until gcc stops generating broken
code) would be to disable optimisations (CFLAGS=-O0) when compiling
for amd64.
