[Bug 126103] Re: should apply icons to xdg-user-dirs

2009-06-19 Thread Damiano Dallatana
I do really agree with Nicolò.

That feature should not reduce the immediate impression that Music or
Video are folders, not apps nor files.

* Full-size emblems w/o folder: seem to be something else (application?)
* Mimetypes: are really misleading, as they only represent a file
* Emblems: the folders keep on showing up as folders, but the emblem is not
shown everywhere (not on panel, menu)
* Appropriate icons in places: it's the most difficult possibility, but it
would be perfect. Obviously, they should not be a mere collage of a folder
and another icon: the style should be that of the home folder icon.

[Bug 368906] [NEW] Can not change appointment time

2009-04-28 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I am using Ubuntu 9.04, and today I tried to add an appointment to
Evolution (the folder dates back to -approx. Ubuntu 7.04, and also the
calendar).

Steps to reproduce
1. open the calendar page
2. select date and time for the appointment
3. create a new appointment
  - the mask has not set the starting and ending time, but only the dates
4. try to set starting or ending time
  - nothing is set
5. save the appointment
  - there is no appointment marked, except for List view (Elenco in it-it l10n)
6. try to edit the appointment and set time
  - still nothing modified
7. close the appointment
  - Evo asks for saving changes, whilst there's no change at all
8. try to modify the starting (ending) time of the appointment from the List
view
  - (attached screenshot 1) Evo warns about wrong date format: La data deve
essere nel formato: 1.30 (Date has to be in 1.30 format)
9. try to change date and time of the appointment to Now from the List view
  - (attached screenshot 2) Evo warns about wrong date format: La data deve
essere inserita nel formato: mer 29/04/2009, 0.18.23 (Date has to be inserted
in the format: Wed 29/04/2009, 0.18.23)

The only result is I am totally unable to add new useful appointments to
Evolution.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 343261] Re: No notification on audio changes (Play, Pause, Next, Previous)

2009-04-06 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Well, solving bug #345363 and bug #351986 did remove completely the
notification for audio change notification in g-s-d 2.26.0-0ubuntu3.
In the notify-OSD specs ([1]) there is still the description of the hotkey
notification system, but now it is in fact not working at all by default.
I did think the desired behaviour for notify-osd was to follow the written
specs...

[Bug 345363] Re: [jaunty] Next track notification appears even if nothing listening

2009-04-06 Thread Damiano Dallatana
While it is evident that this bug is solved with latest fix, it does
introduce a regression against the desired behaviour of notify-osd in the specs
page. Now the hotkey actions are not notified at all (again, bug #343261).
The scope of this particular bug was only to make g-s-d wait for a program to
listen and act at a hotkey action before making notify-osd show a confirmation
notification.

[Bug 356297] Re: Set system time doesn't open time configuration

2009-04-06 Thread Damiano Dallatana
I can confirm this bug using Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty on amd64, it-IT l10n.
Steps to reproduce:
1. right click on the clock panel applet
2. select Set time and date (Regola data e ora - Italian)
3. select Set system time (Imposta ora sistema - Italian) button on the
window that opens up
4. Insert your password as a sudoer and authenticate with policykit

What happens:
The first window - Set time and date - closes correctly, but the window where
setting the system date and time does not open.

Expected result: The first window - Set time and date - closes, and a
new window of time-admin opens unlocked, making it possible to set time
and date system wide.

I do not know if this bug is filed against the correct package... Surely
it is not a problem of gnome-applet; trying to file it against gnome-
panel. Could it be a problem with policykit?

[Bug 351986] Re: Multimedia key notifications are useless

2009-04-04 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Hi Rodney, as far as I can see you pointed out many glitches of the new
notification system.
Many of these are already being discussed in the relevant bug reports:
bug #345363: Next track notification appears even if nothing listening
bug #345296: confirmation bubble is overlapped by notification bubbles
bug #354149: Synchronous notification bubble does not appear under existing
bubble
bug #354339: Notification bubble can change size while Confirmation bubble is
visible
Some of the problems you listed do not have a bug report filed against the
correct package or project.
I suggest you to comment and subscribe to the bugs listed above, and to report
new bugs for the problems you did encounter with the new notify-OSD: a bug
report should list only a problem, without going off-topic.

[Bug 351634] [NEW] Local Junk and Trash folders not localized

2009-03-30 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I am using Evolution 2.26.0-0ubuntu2 on Ubuntu 9.04 x64, with it-it
l10n.

In the folder On This Computer (Su questo computer, in Italian), while
Inbox is correctly translated as In arrivo, Drafts is correctly Bozze,
Outbox is correctly named In uscita, and Sent is Inviata, there are two
untranslated folders:
* Junk
* Trash

This problem can be observed from my main account (I do not remember the
version the folders were first created with) and from the guest account (so it
does not concern the imported folders only).
I attach a screenshot with the offending folders, taken from a guest account
on 9.04.

[Bug 343261] Re: No notification on audio changes (Play, Pause, Next, Previous)

2009-03-20 Thread Damiano Dallatana
With latest updates (a lot of, I cannot tell where in particular) I see part of
the bug is solved.
In particular, it solved the second use case I listed above (going to put them
in the bug's description):
2. I press next or previous - I expect a confirmation bubble with play
next or play previous icon, with the eventual playing track non-critical
notification bubble

Still no confirmation bubble on play, pause and stop events.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: notify-osd

  I am using notify-osd 0.9.3-0ubuntu1 (with /usr/share/notify_osd folder
renamed to notify-osd) on Ubuntu Jaunty x64.
Whenever I use the (correctly working) multimedia keys on my keyboard, a
Microsoft Wireless Multimedia Keyboard 1.1, I do not get any notification at
all.
Play, Pause, Next, and Previous are all affected.
Notifications are working correctly for everything else.
+
+ Use cases:
+ 1. I press play button on keyboard - I expect a confirmation bubble to be
displayed with play icon, eventually (for enabled media players) with a
consequent non-critical notification bubble with the title, author and cover of
the playing track
+ 2. I press next or previous - I expect a confirmation bubble with play
next or play previous icon, with the eventual playing track non-critical
notification bubble
+ 3. I press pause or stop - as said on the Notify OSD specification
previously linked, I should expect a confirmation bubble (the icons are not
present on the icons table)

[Bug 343261] Re: No notification on audio track changes

2009-03-18 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Well, I thinks there is some misunderstanding. There should be two
notifications on audio track changes with notify-osd:
1. the old notification with the title of the playing track
2. the new notification on multimedia keys actions, as explained on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NotifyOSD#Play,%20Pause,%20Stop,%20Previous,%20and%20Next

While the first one has no problem on rhythmbox and banshee, and totem
has not had any notification before (and I do not expect it to notify
the new playing track), the second one does not appear.

Use cases:
1. I press play button on keyboard - I expect a confirmation bubble to be
displayed with play icon, eventually (for enabled media players) with a
consequent non-critical notification bubble with the title, author and cover of
the playing track
2. I press next or previous - I expect a confirmation bubble with play
next or play previous icon, with the eventual playing track non-critical
notification bubble
3. I press pause or stop - as said on the Notify OSD specification
previously linked, I should expect a confirmation bubble (the icons are not
present on the icons table)

So, I do not see it as a player problem but more as a notify-osd bug
(I can surely be wrong). notify-osd should intercept the use of an
hotkey, and, if correctly handled by a multimedia application, show the
right confirmation bubble. It's not a fundamental functionality, but
as it is in the notify-osd specs, I did think it is a broken or missing
functionality.

[Bug 326917] Re: Italian translation fails for some Nautilus menu entries, English is used instead

2009-02-09 Thread Damiano Dallatana
I have really similar issues - hard to understand and really diffused on my

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 amd64 with -backports and -proposed on, with
language-support-it installed. I am really used to reading English text on my
pc, so I became aware of this problem only when it was too late to understand
which package ruined everything. However, it seems to be strictly related to
nautilus.

Examples of English-only parts of my desktop:
* back, forward, up and search in Nautilus
* selector of nautilus lateral panel (Places/Information/Tree/...)
* Nautilus preferences (Edit - Preferences - except some scattered Italian
phrases)
* File operations window - and merge or overwrite confirmation windows

2008-03-27 Thread Damiano Dallatana
I can confirm on Hardy (2.6.24-12-generic i686) updated as of yesterday.

I was seeing this bug randomly on Gutsy, and stopped seeing it after installing
dbus-x11.
Then I installed Hardy Alpha6 (fresh setup, removed root - also /home). The bug
did not appear, until today (obviously, with dbus-x11 installed).
Starting gnome-settings-daemon manually returns the following messages:

$ gnome-settings-daemon
** (gnome-settings-daemon:14409): WARNING **: Failed to acquire
org.gnome.SettingsDaemon
** (gnome-settings-daemon:14409): WARNING **: Could not acquire name

The difference from Gutsy is that everything works (I am using the
default gtk2 and metacity themes, and all the elements of the GUI are
well rendered ant themed). Obviously, the error message starting the
session is the same old one.

[Bug 202682] [NEW] [hardy] Preview of little images (eg. icons) is done in default size

2008-03-15 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I am using Ubuntu Hardy installed as Alpha 6 and updated as of today (new
setup).
Trying to see all the new Gnome icons, I opened /usr/share/icons, but I did
found an ugly regression from Gutsy: the preview is always done resizing the
image to the default setting, even if it is little.
Steps to reproduce:
1. open nautilus
2. go to /usr/share/icons/gnome/16x16 (or choose the size you want, more
evident on small sizes)
3. open a folder
What I used to see: every icon was previewed in original size (without any
border, but that's another matter)
What I see: all the previews are generated from the icons in the default size
for every image (96x96, if I recall correctly)

I know the previews are prettier than before (in general), but in the
process I think someone forgot to blacklist generation of previews
from small images that can be shown without any thumbnailing.

[Bug 146946] Re: [gutsy] Gnome settings daemon does randomly not work

2007-10-11 Thread Damiano Dallatana
I can confirm the bugreport.
Randomly, and without an apparent cause, gnome-settings-daemon does not start,
and it shows the standard theme / icons, the mounted drives not appearing on
the desktop or under the 'places' menu, with a window telling me g-s-d did not
start. As LCID Fire said, starting it manually does work, and restarting x.org
does resolve everything. That problem was really frequent until a couple of
weeks ago, but it still continue to appear.
With the manual start, I can tell that's not the known and resolved situation
of g-s-d not starting at all, as it starts.
I am at your disposal for every information you could need.

[Bug 151655] Unable to set custom page size when printing

2007-10-11 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gthumb

When I try to set a custom page size to print on, gThumb crashes.

Steps to reproduce:
1. open an image with gThumb
2. go to File - Print...
3. go to the 2nd tab of the Print window, Paper details (or something similar)
4. from the drop-down box, select Custom (or, equally, select one of the
dimensions of the page and replace it with another number

What should happen: I should be able to insert the new page size, and continue
until printing is done.
What happens: gThumb crashes
Version information: gthumb 3:2.10.6-0ubuntu1 (2.10.6) on Ubuntu 7.10

I will attach the error messages generated after the crash when starting

[Bug 148241] rhythmbox freezing when trying to play an audio CD

2007-10-02 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I am using Rhythmbox 0.11.2 from Ubuntu gutsy.
Whenever I try to open a CD from one of my drives (a DVD reader and a DVD
writer) from within rhythmbox, the player freezes and I have to terminate it. I
can play correctly every CD i want from Sound Juicer. I also tried with and
without the 'random', but it does not change.
The apport report should include data from the freeze, as I selected the send
a bug report immediately before freezing rhythmbox. However, I will attach the
last lines of the 'rhythmbox -d' log (where there is reference to /media/hdc/).

Steps to reproduce:
1. insert an audio CD
2. open Rhythmbox
3. try to make rhythmbox play the cd by clicking twice on a cd track or on the
cd name

What happens:
nothing, rhytmbox freezes

What should happen: rhythmbox should play the cd correctly

[Bug 99056] [feisty] Keyboard Stop button only pauses rhythmbox

2007-03-30 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I just installed Feisty beta 1 over Edgy (erased edgy root partition, and left
edgy /home untouched).
Using Rhythmbox, I noticed that when I press the stop key on my keyboard,
rhythmbox pauses.
I reconfigured the keyboard shortcuts, making sure the stop key was set for
stopping the music, but nothing changed (restarted xorg to make sure the
changes were applied).
This is a regression, as using Rhythmbox on Edgy Eft the stop button worked
properly.

Using rhytmbox 0.9.8 on feisty (completely updated) on it-IT
environment.

[Bug 78431] Re: Importing a cd in rhythmbox does not work

2007-01-14 Thread Damiano Dallatana
yes, the only problem was the unset library directory.
So, it is not a bug. But it could be handled really better by rhythmbox!

Thank you very much indeed, sebastien! consider yourself hugged...

[Bug 78431] Re: Importing a cd in rhythmbox does not work

2007-01-10 Thread Damiano Dallatana
rhythmbox -d prints out too many things.
I just tried again saving everything on a .txt file.
The only strange thing I found that _could_ be related to this is:

[free_dbus_error] rb-generic-player-source.c:716: finding audio player
udi: dbus error: No property info.capabilities on device with id
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_1106_571_ide_0_0

However, I attach a .tar.gz archive containing the whole log file
(originally 1.8 MB). The only action I tried was opening the cd and
trying to copy it...

(obviously, I am at your disposal for anything you could need...)

2. open rhythmbox

looking from the terminal, as I try to copy the cd in the library, rhythmbox
reports an error:

[Bug 65512] [edgy] Stopping Rhythmbox makes the applet show wrong time

2006-10-28 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

When I am playing an mp3 song with Rhythmbox and I stop it, the applet shows an
impossible time (now it shows: Paused, 1193046.28.15 of 0.03.00). Not a big
problem, but a strange behaviour.
In Dapper it worked the right way. The bug shows off everytime here in Edgy
