[Bug 1889315] Re: can not delete any contact in Evolution
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu that you are using. [Bug 1845660] Re: on longin: shows wrong info, reset password: shows wrong info. This happens each login attempt.
Hi, So from what I understand, you are able to log into https://login.ubuntu.com with a browser, correct? This project is only for issues with the Ubuntu One Single Sign-On service, and the problem you describe does not seem to be directly with the sign-on service (it could be a connectivity problem since it says "something went wrong"). Further, the problem you describe is not a bug but probably a support request, so here are some pointers for the correct places to get help: If you need help with general Ubuntu issues you have two main choices. The first is to rely on free support provided by the Ubuntu community. For this please visit https://www.ubuntu.com/support/community-support or post your questions directly in http://askubuntu.com/ or https://ubuntuforums.org/. The second if you're looking for commercial-grade support, is to check out Canonical's support offerings for Ubuntu at https://www.ubuntu.com/support. I hope this helps you find a solution to your issue. Regardless, I've moved the bug to the project that owns the dialog that's giving you the error (gnome-control-center) to see if that project's developers have more ideas. ** Project changed: canonical-identity-provider => gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1845660 Title: on longin: shows wrong info, reset password: shows wrong info. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I have to ask if 20-25 bytes really make that much of a difference when dealing with image files. Still, I found several ways to get rid of the comment: 1- Set an empty default comment in Preferences - Default image. 2- Uncheck Save comment (this appears for instance when saving as GIF or PNG; I didn't see it for JPG). Hopefully one of these will make GIMP-edited images more suitable for your use case. I'll set this bug report as Incomplete pending confirmation of whether this helps mitigate your problem. [Bug 879528] Re: Displays utility doesn't offer to use nvidia-settings with proprietary drivers installed?
Hi Sebastien, With the normal panel I can switch resolutions (only 4 choices - not all available resolutions are shown here). I can't rotate the screen or use an external monitor. Also, the screen shows up as unknown. With the proprietary panel I can switch between about 20 resolution choices, and use external monitors. I still can't rotate the screen. This panel correctly identifies connected monitors by name/make/model (DDC information I think). Of note, if I add an external display using the proprietary panel, the normal panel shows a giant desktop, i.e. if I have two 1024x768 screens configured on the proprietary panel, the normal panel will show one giant unknown screen of resolution 2048x768. [Bug 819842] Re: Commands in the background are terminated after closing the terminal
Hi Sworddragon, Thanks for testing this! Could you confirm whether this happens in other programs? I tested mainly using gedit and gitg and I am able to leave them running even after the terminal closes. This is using lxterminal and gnome-terminal. git gui invokes, I think, gitk, which is written using the tcl/tk toolkit, so maybe the problem doesn't happen anymore for gtk applications such as gedit, but does for tk applications. This test will help confirm that and decide what to do about this. [Bug 879528] [NEW] [Dell Studio XPS 1340] Displays utility doesn't offer to use nvidia-settings with proprietary drivers installed
Public bug reported: On this system, the proprietary nvidia drivers are required for some features (like suspend/resume) to work correctly. On previous Ubuntu versions, opening the Monitors control panel detected the proprietary drivers and offered to use nvidia-settings instead of Displays. This is required, for instance, to be able to properly detect screens and enable the VGA, DisplayPort and HDMI video outputs which are completely ignored by g-c-c's Displays applet. However on 11.10, Displays doesn't have this behavior, so the user is left to figure out why DIsplays is so limited and unable to detect/enable external screens, and eventually to learn to use nvidia- settings from a command prompt. This is quite confusing for novice users. I'll attach some files with hardware information, this machine is primarily used for testing so please don't hesitate to let me know if I can provide more detailed info or run any necessary tests. [Bug 847547] Re: gedit /var/log/logkeys.log.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. I'm unsure what keylogger are you using, so it would be helpful if you could indicate which program or package you are trying to use. I see this bug was filed under gedit, but gedit is obviously not at fault here. Does the file /var/log/logkeys.log exist? [Bug 848253] Re: Gedit won't let me edit binary files to look for text
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Gedit is a text editor, therefore it stands to reason that it tries to protect users from accidentally opening a binary file in the editor, which might result in a less-knowledgeable user damaging it. In order to get the functionality you need, may I suggest using a full- blown binary/hex editor such as ghex or bless. These are much better suited to the task. Also, if all you need is to look at strings contained in a binary file, the strings command might be of help. You can use it to generate a text file without extraneous characters and then analyze that using gedit. Please let me know if some of the programs I described help in fulfilling your requirement. [Bug 842235] [NEW] Gdk.color_parse returns Gdk.Color instead of a tuple after updating python-gobject to 2.90.3-1svn1
Public bug reported: I installed Oneiric Beta1, and then updated some packages, among them python-gobject (which pulled a new package, python-gobject-2). After this, System Testing (checkbox-gtk) crashes as described in bug 839675. As indicated in that bug, the problem is caused by an API-breaking change in PyGTK: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=653462 Change Gdk.color_parse() to not return a tuple, instead just return the created color or None if it wasn't possible to parse the name into a color. This keeps compatibility with PyGTK but breaks the current API. So I'm filing this bug to keep track of the fact that the API has changed. Steps to reproduce: 1- On an Oneiric b1 system check the version of python-gobject, should be 2.28.6-4. 2- Launch a Python shell and execute: from gi.repository import Gdk Gdk.color_parse(#ff) 3- Result should be a tuple, like (True, Gdk.Color(red=65535, green=65535, blue=65535)) 4- update python-gobject by running sudo apt-get install python-gobject. This will bring in python-gobject-2 and versions will be: python-gobject 2.90.3-1svn1 python-gobject-2 2.28.6-6svn1 5- Again, aunch a Python shell and execute: from gi.repository import Gdk Gdk.color_parse(#ff) 6- Result is now just a Gdk.color, like: Gdk.Color(red=65535, green=65535, blue=65535) ** Affects: pygobject (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to pygobject in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/842235 Title: Gdk.color_parse returns Gdk.Color instead of a tuple after updating python-gobject to 2.90.3-1svn1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pygobject/+bug/842235/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 759963] Re: Volumes on cards inserted in the Realtek card reader (PCI 10ec:5208) not automounted.
Hi Martin, I tested this on two affected Dell Latitude 2110 systems with the Realtek card reader. Prior to applying any updates, I'd insert an SD card which would be detected as sdb (visible on dmesg) but didn't automount. I'd have to manually go into Nautilus to mount the recognized filesystem. [Bug 825512] [NEW] No way to get default audio and video sinks using either gconf or gsettings on an Oneiric install
Public bug reported: gstreamer pipelines using either gconfaudiosink or gconfvideosink to get the default system audio or video sinks no longer work in Oneiric. Steps to reproduce: 1- Install gstreamer-tools 2- Run this test pipeline gst-launch audiotestsrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink On Natty, this produces a test tone. on Oneiric, it fails: WARNING: erroneous pipeline: no element gconfaudiosink There are two solutions to this problem, but both require installing additional packages: 1- Install gstreamer0.10-gconf 2- Change the pipeline to use gsettingsaudiosink and gsettingsvideosink (where appropriate). This seems to be the new way to do things, through gsettings. Unfortunately, the libgstgsettingselements.so library which provides these is NOT in the default-installed gstreamer0.10-plugins-good, but in gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad, which needs to also be installed explicitly. gst-launch audiotestsrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gsettingsaudiosink It seems to me like gstreamer pipelines with default-specified sinks should work out-of-the-box. [Bug 822205] Re: Totem crashes instantly after starting - memory overflow
The gconfaudiosink and gconfvideosink appear to be gone, they used to be in /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstgconfelements.so, which is part of gstreamer0.10-plugins-good. However they seem to have been deprecated in favor of gsettingsvideosink and gsettingsaudiosink, which are in a shared library called libgstgsettingselements.so, which is currently part of gstreamer0.10 -plugins-bad. Thus, two things are needed: 1- Installing the gsettings elements somehow, currently by installing gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad. 2- Modifying applications that refer to gconf{video, audio}sink to use gsettings{video, audio}sink instead. I couldn't find any relevant bugs in either of gstreamer0.10-plugins-{good,bad}. I was able to confirm this behavior using the steps to reproduce you provided, thanks! This is on Ubuntu 11.04. I'm thus setting the bug to confirmed, with importance: medium per moderate impact on core application. I'm also moving to package totem as the troublesome component appears to be the youtube plugin, which is in totem-plugins binary package, built from source package totem. I searched for upstream bugs about this and couldn't find any. I also tried to test with the latest Ubuntu development version but totem is segfaulting on me, so I can't confirm yet whether this is fixed in development. The most likely cause for this is that youtube made some changes and the youtube plugin doesn't account for that yet. Thus, when asked to maximize (i.e. setting width to 1024), Evolution plainly refuses because it knows that its child widgets won't fit. Of course, this involves two factors: width of the actual screen (that's why it's mostly prevalent on netbooks with narrower screens) and minimum width of the Evolution window, which mostly depends on language being used; these kinds of problems don't usually show themselves in english because it happens to be a narrow language, so to speak. However, the problem can be reproduced in english as well, by using, for instance, a virtual machine with screen dimensions below 930x414 (the minimum size for the Evolution window in english), or perhaps by setting resolution to 800x600 or 640x480. This behavior happens even using the Classic session. Steps to reproduce: 1- Install Natty, selecting the English language. 2- Set the screen to a resolutionwith a width lower than 930 pixels (800x600 works). 3- Start Evolution, create a possibly dummy configuration. 4- Once the main Evolution window is on-screen, press the Maximize button Additionally, to validate using the original reporter's configuration (french): 5- sudo apt-get install language-pack-gnome-fr 6- Set the screen to a resolution with a width lower than 1029 pixels (1024x600, typical netbook resolution, works). 7- Start Evolution doing: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=fr_FR evolution 8- Maximize the Evolution window -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/776972 Title: Can't maximise evolution -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 790315] Re: The method driver /usr/lib/apt/methods/'http could not be found
Hi Robert, Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It looks like your version of Ubuntu (8.10) reached End of Life on April, 2010, and additionally, it would appear you are using a non- Ubuntu package as indicated in your bug report. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. However, I can suggest something for you to try to solve the problem you're seeing. I managed to obtain the same error mesage you're getting, what I think may have happened is that you have an entry on your /etc/apt/sources.list file that looks like this: deb 'http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy main restricted' notice the single-quotes. You have to remove the quotes from any entries that look like that, so that they all have this form: deb http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy main restricted Please verify your sources.list configuration and retry what you were doing. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 530999 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/530999 Sasa: Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug 530999, so it is being marked as such. In the meanwhile, you can try the following workaround so you can remove the unwanted keyboard layout. How to solve: 1- Upon logon, in gdm (Login Screen), select the keyboard layout you wish to use and login. If you use autologon (you do not see the login screen), do System - Log Out username...; then the login screen should appear. 2- Once you've logged in with your desired (USA or Serbian) layout, you can go to the Keyboard preference panel and delete the UK layout, while setting one of the others as your default. 3- Log out again, and you should see your desired default layout being used. I hope this helps you. Any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in the other report. Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may find. ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 530999 Gnome-control-center does not write a change in default keyboard to /var/cache/gdm/$USER/dmrc * You can subscribe to bug 530999 by following this link: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/530999/+subscribe -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/784453 Title: Default keyboard layout is added back -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 731570] Re: Panel clock is always exactly one second late
Andrew, Now that Ubuntu 11.04 has been released, I'm wondering if it's possible for you to download it, and boot it with the Live CD environment (so as to not overwrite your current system), and confirm whether you're still observing this behavior. I'm also thinking that it might be a hardware-specific issue, to this end, I'd like to ask you to run the following command on a terminal window: sudo dmidecode -t system system-info.txt Then edit the system-info.txt file, remove the Serial Number and UUID (so you don't submit private information) and post the content of the file as a comment here (it should be short enough). This will give us information about your machine's make and model. [Bug 731570] Re: Panel clock is always exactly one second late
On my tests, the gnome-panel clock is displaying exactly what the system's clock indicates, meaning this is not a problem with the gnome- panel clock, but simply that the computer's internal clock might not be synchronized with that of the other computer you're comparing it to. You might try synchronizing all your computers to the same time server. On Ubuntu, use this command on a terminal: sudo ntpdate pool.ntp.org Make sure to synchronize your other computers to the same time server (pool.ntp.org). Please report back and let me know if after synchronizing all clocks to an authoritative, reliable time source, they are still running out of sync. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/731570 Title: Panel clock is always exactly one second late -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
