[Bug 1242439] [NEW] New menu item goes into wrong menu

2013-10-20 Thread DAP
Public bug reported:

After updating to Ubuntu 13.10, I found that the update had moved a bunch of
programs around in my menus.
I attempted to move the Main Menu item from the other directory back into the
preferences directory where it belongs, but failed.
1st I tried drag drop, but that did not work.
next I tried creating a new menu item in preferences, but each time I tried
this, it showed up in other instead.
I will now figure out where the menu stores its config file and see if I can
hand edit it.

[Bug 1078982] Re: mouse sensitivity broken

2013-03-27 Thread DAP
I have the opposite problem, the speed is too slow. I turn off acceleration
because I want a linear transfer function between mouse move cursor positon.
The sensitivity setting does nothing.
Device Accel Constant Deceleration is already at 1 and can't be set lower.

At the moment it seems I would have to buy a higher DPI mouse, but one
should not have to buy a new mouse to change the speed.

[Bug 1098937] [NEW] Login screen pretends to be user, screwing up scripts

2013-01-12 Thread DAP
Public bug reported:

When the computer is sitting at the login screen with noone logged in,
scripts that run 'w' to find out how many human users are logged in get
a report of '1' instead of '0' like they should.

An example of a script that does this is the checklogi.sh script here:
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Using_ACPI_%26_MythTV_to_run_other_applications

The checklogin.sh script is used to prevent MythTV from shutting down
the system when it is idle if a human user is still logged into the
computer.

The fact that the GDM login screen pretends to be a user prevents
shutting the system down when MythTV is idle and noone is logged in.

I have hacked the script on my machine to make this work, but it is not
generalized and I can think of several cases where it will fail on a
different setup.

The script was working on lightdm, but I had to switch to GDM due to a
bug in lightdm that sometimes breaks xwindows.

[Bug 796374] [NEW] Fails normalize on certain FLAC files

2011-06-12 Thread DAP
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Download this album:
http://evilwezil.bandcamp.com/album/requiem-for-a-dying-star in FLAC format
(Creative commons license, so no legal problems here)
Open Brazero, drag tunes from album to Brazero, and attempt to burn disk.
Fails normalization of first track and ejects disk before it even starts to
burn the disk.
Convert the first trak to WAV format using Audacity
Try again
First track normalizes fine (WAV), fails on second track (FLAC).

The attached log has three flac files from a previous album before the
first track of offending album. The first track of offending has been
converted to a wave file. failure is on second track of offending album
(FLAC).

Today I got Sorry, the program hardware-monitor closed unexpectedly. This is
particularly odd since it is actually still running.
It is Hardware Monitor 1.4.2.

I have the option of reporting the problem, so I will attempt to do so,
but it will probably go into a new bug.

[Bug 676624] [NEW] Panel applets randomly fail to start.

2010-11-17 Thread DAP
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I run a bunch of panel applets, and have had many of them fail to start on
login.
Unfortunately I do not remember the error message, but it will happen again, so
when it does I'll write down the error message and post an update.

So far, applets that have failed this way are:
Indicator Applet Session
Clock
Hardware Monitor
Gnome Sensor Applet

Usually nothing fails. Occasionally just one of these will fail. Rarely, more
than one will fail.
If I immediately log out and log back in, the failed panel applet is working
again.

On a related note, the Camera Monitor applet quite often (but not
always) brings up an error message claiming it is already running on
login. This failure is not as annoying as it does not require a logout
to recover from.

Since this affects so many different applets, I do not believe the
problem is in the applets themselves, instead it must be in the gnome
panel.
